Yeah, the northern New England usage of "wicked" is unusual; it basically means "extremely." Lots of linguistic quirks. When I first moved here I was confused by the "travelling Rs"; someone, for example, would get an idear while they were driving in their cah. Heh.

Yep -- they stick Rs where they don't belong and remove them where they do belong!
I had planned to work more on the mini split this weekend, but my mother has been hospitalized. :(
Sorry to hear that, Keith. Hang in there buddy. She's clearly in the best possible place to get good care right now.
Peace
JWL
I echo concern... and send my prayers as well....
Hi Keith, my thoughts are with you ... Dan
Hey Keith...
Prayers for you, your mom & family have already been sent "up"
think positive thoughts dude.
Sending some positive vibes your way from this side of the Atlantic!
Sorry to hear this, shar.
Hang in there, bro..I had planned to work more on the mini split this weekend, but my mother has been hospitalized. :(
...and it ain't even over.
It's been 11 days since I took my mom to the emergency room. She's been In intensive care three times and as of this moment is still there. On the positive side, she's had the best day since entering the hospital, but she's got a long, tough road ahead and there are no certainties.
Those who are interested in the blow-by-blow can check out the blog I created and am maintaining strictly to keep family and friends up to date. The blog has really been a godsend as it allows me to update everyone without making phone calls to repeat the same (complicated) information ad infinitum, ad nauseum, plus everyone gets accurate information.
I've missed a week of work (and a lot of sleep) so far. Needless to say, I haven't touched the studio build at all.
Y'all are like an extended (and quite dysfunctional :-)) family to me, and I tend to cope with crisis with my heart on my sleeve anyway, so it's pretty natural for me to share this ordeal with you here.
Thanks for your (continuing) support.
I also appreciate any extra help in the area of getting newer members squared away with introductory salutations, advice, and thread-pointing. My availability here will continue to be limited for a while.

Your Studiobuild family are all here for you bro... Our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.
I am delighted to report that today's procedure on my mom was much more successful than we were hoping for! :D
Those interested in the details will find them on the blog.
I want to again thank everyone for keeping us in their thoughts.

That's awesome news Keith! I'm so gald to hear everything went so well today. Hopefully she'll be home in the next couple of days and will be all settled back in ready for mothers day (UK Mothers day was actually Sunday).
Keith,
I haven't looked in here for a while - and totally missed what has been going on - my apologies my friend.
BUT - at least it's nice to se that what's I've missed has been Sally gradually getting better..........
Get some rest for yourself Keith - I can see that you need it....
Sincerely,
Rod
Rod, thanks so much for your kindness, and also for posting such a thoughtful comment on the blog, too! I share all the comments with her in the hospital and I can't wait to get down there to share yours.
Speaking of rest -- I just had the most satisfying nap EVER! :-D

Rod
Thanks again, guys. Hopefully she'll be discharged today or tomorrow. I'll find out soon.
Keith,
Gald to hear your mom is doing better!
What a blog for your mom's hospital stay... great use of technology! I just scannned it... but I'm still completely impressed and it's obvious the blog is very detailed.
And congrats on the NAP from the other day.
Marc
Hey all,
Mom had a major setback, but is doing great -- breathing really well, regaining her strength, etc. She had actually gone home but was taken back to the hospital (this time by ambulance) less than 24 hours later. What a nightmare... Anyway, she went from acute care hospital to a skilled nursing facility and is now on track to be sent home no later than early next week, maybe even Sunday. Details are on the blog I set up.
This past weekend I was actually able to get something accomplished, studio-wise. :) It may not seem like a lot, but it was a little tricky, and I didn't feel comfortable putting it off because I didn't want wasps or birds nesting in the attic.
So, this is where we left off a few weeks ago...

Behold... This is where the downspot piping (acting as a conduit shell for my insulated refrigerant lines and my 120 volt power lines) enters the attic.
There are a couple of pieces that overlap and telescope with each other. This is possible because I actually sliced the middle piece open and removed a chunk so as to allow the lines to exit upward and then inward into the original attic vent.

I used expanding foam on the end to cap the downspout piping, added a perpendicular 2x4 block between truss chords, used a 22" x 6" wire mesh with built-on flashing to create the new vent covering the area, and then painted everything to match.

I'm really pleased with the outcome and I know this looks a lot better than it would if I were to have hired an ordinary HVAC contractor to do it without paying a lot of extra cash. Granted, they probably would have just preferred to penetrate the wall in the rear -- but that is something that I did not want to do or to have done.
Next on the agenda is pulling the lines further towards the garage from inside the attic, feeding them down into the studio (and the electrical service panel), and getting the indoor unit installed.
--Keith :mrgreen:looks really smart. good job.
Aloha,
Hey, glad to hear your mom is doing better after the last trip back to the hospital.
And yeah, your downspout install is looking real good! Be safe pulling those cables to avoid a Marc-cident!
Aloha 8)
Thanks, guys!
Worry not, Kendale -- I'm extremely careful up there: I use a head-mounted flashlight and am very cautious about where I put my weight!
I'm privileged to have seen Marc's (guitardad72's) attic in real life, and let me tell you: there's no freakin' way I'd go up there! The main reason is that, due to the fact that I have about a hundred more pounds on me than our Floridian friend, I'd surely get stuck! Yes, it really is that bad!
My attic is a cake walk compared to his!
Nevertheless, slow, steady, deliberate, and cautious are the qualities I shall demonstrate!
