About this archive
The Recording Studio Design Forum at johnlsayers.com ran from January 2003 to March 2022. John Sayers designed studios through John Sayers Productions, and the forum grew into one of the main places on the web to learn how to isolate and treat a room.
How it was saved
After John died, the site went offline. A forum moderator had kept a copy of the forum’s database, and this archive is built from that copy. It is published with permission, as a read-only record: nothing here can be edited, and there are no new posts.
What is here
Every thread from the forum’s main sections: 15,437 threads and 140,875 posts written by 8,294 members. A few side boards are not included: off-topic chat, a building-products board, an administrative board and the Spanish-language forum.
The Library collects 2,220 of the most useful threads by topic. They were chosen by how much they were read, how often other posts linked to them, and how many experienced members took part, then sorted into topics with AI assistance. The short introduction at the top of each Library topic was drafted with AI assistance and is labelled as such. Every post is the original text.
What is missing
Almost all images are gone. The forum stored about 62,000 attached files, and those files were not saved with the database. 4,013 attachments and 797 images linked from other websites were recovered from the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine. Where an image is lost, the post shows a hatched box with the original file name, so you can tell something was there.
Privacy
No private messages, email addresses, IP addresses or profile details were kept. Email addresses, phone numbers and street addresses that appeared inside posts have been replaced with [removed]. Members are shown by the names they used on the forum.
