My back wall is reflective and untreated. It just has a small 2ft x 8ft x 2inch absorber.
definitely go with minimum 4" absorbers - you really need absorption in that small a room. you want to cull off the low-mid stuff not so much you HF except to insure you delay off the back wall is attenuated properly.
Allright. What should be the ideal reverb time. Currently it is 273ms. I haven't compensated for the low end region electronically from the speaker. Region below 200Hz. Do you think so its required. And what improvement can u see since the last results. :?:
the room decay rate should be around 350-400ms across all frequencies if possible, 273 is dry... the signal off the back wall should be done 15db.
15dB? wont that be killing the mechanical movement of the speaker? Ive not put the slats as of now. Should slats aswell compensate for the wall loading?
We're talking aboutmthe reflection off the back wall, nothing to do with the mechanics of your speakers... :D
Ah!!! i thot i have to shelve out 15dB from the speaker in the low end. Im planing to splay off the back wall too .
With soffit mounting, you want to cut 6db for the baffle step compensation. Crossover works for passive systems, most times a powered monitor has an EQ setting for this.
Yes. Thats what :P hehe Hey what if i dont compensate for the baffle step and try to rule out that area by treating the room? Would it be a good idea. Coz (may be im having a wrong perception but still) i want the the 10" woofer to move as freely as possible without involving even the slightest THD from the filters no matter how well they are designed. Please enlighten. Sincerely Simran
If you don't compensate you will be fitting exaggerated LF which will be very difficult to simple treat in that small a space. Yes, poorly designed circuits can be a problem so don't use cheap stuff ;-)
Yea I've flushmounted the klein+hummel o 410s. They r active. What do u think using the inbuilt shelving eq??
Sup Glenn! Look at the spectrogram. QRD diffusing at 183Hz with F(hi) @ 668Hz and F(low) @ 137Hz?
Image not preserved: ceilingdonespectrogram.jpg
Or a 50 Liter or up Helmholtz @ 148Hz with a q of 2 placed @ the back wall? :)
where do you think the 183hz is coming from? front to back of ceiling floor? or side to side?
Either the front and back wall. My sides are splayed. Just need to put slat mdfs over it front and backwall are parallel with both being reflective
but for the fact generating a puretone of 183Hz and moving around in each and every corner of the room dsnt reduce its effect (no hollow patches) neither its building up anywhere. Wall loading????? Baffle step????
it could be the 2nd axial side to side mode. what absorption do you have on the sides?
Spot on i think :) Side walls are actually the modular slat absorbers. Slats have not been designed . Tho i shall keep the calibrated mic on the side walls and measure whats happening there. I just need to get the MDF/ply cut for slats.
Hey Glenn. My back wall is done. roughly 6-7Inches of glasswool stuffed into a frame. Here are the results. I think i will have to chuck the 200Hz for the baffle step from the monitors. What should be done for 40-80Hz region ? Thanks. Simran

Glenn Heres one more update for the day. This is with me sitting in the room with the mic placed at my ear level. Please let me know what should be the Time range and window in rew? and what should we ideally look for. flatness at 300ms or 10/20/30 ms ? Sincerely Simran

Hi Glenn! This has been taken while the mic exactly at the sweet spot.Very precisely at the same height where the acoustic center of the monitors is.Which is also my ear level. :) What should be done for the subs ? They are not resonating audibly at all. Would killing them make things very thin? Let me know what you think? I am removing the side wall slats and i am putting 8" absorption for the slats. Let me know Sincerely Simran

what was the slat configuration?
Hi Glenn! The slats are not yet put over the modular resonators. What are the signs and symptoms of being in a reflection free zone.currentlu the freq response is extremely flat with just one speaker on. Where there's slight combfiltering post 4k when both of thre speakers are on :( . Moving out the left speaker by 2 inches however solves the problem.
Here is the upto date thingie Glenn, Standing physically in the corner where the slat starts reduces the darkenss of the graph in the region of 429Hz to 900HZ. Would 4 Inch foam/fiberglass work in that area(Practically it being a point of first reflection) The modular slat absorber is 42cm wide tapering to 11cm and 96 cm in length total. The fiber glass is roughly 1 inch away from where the slats strips will be nailed. The entire modular absorber is stuffed till the back with fiber glass. (Yellow colour,64density ) Please tell me if things are going correct.

The 31band eq setting works cool for my ears. dont know why? :P
