you're using i-bar (i-beam) for the soffit framing? and 12mm ply? aluminum? gypsum? sounds complicated :shock: please sketch up your idea.
what about a wood frame (for ease of construction) with plywood (for rigidness) and MDF (for mass). consider Sobrathane/Sylomer/agglomerated foam for the speaker decoupling.

Hey , Forget the Ibeam as of now.
Heres how im planing to mount the monitor.
The layers are
12mm ply wood+2mm Iron sheet.
12mm gypsum board screwed over it.
then again 12mm plywood.
Do u think 12mm 12mm 12mm is a good idea or i shld go in for something harmonically non related?
something like 12mm 7mm 9mm?
The entire back side will be filled with glasswool.
let me know
you might want to review some of the soffit mounting examples on the site - you should consider using framing and 3x MDF or 2X MDF and 1x plywood for the face but use a frame to support it and take advantage of the space to add trapping under the speaker and around it.
Ya the speakers are roughly around 36Kgs. If the wood work/framing is incorrectly done by my carpenter i will be in a mess full of rattling walls. Hence decided to compromise on the bottom space for the traps and rather making something firm
What do u think about the idea portrayed in sketchup. Will it be a technically correct way of flush mounting?
you can extend the plate all the way down but i think you're still better off with a proper frame to support things and then attach the plate.
new developments
so maybe build the soffit frames to fit around them and then a speaker box w/ decoupling to sit on the stands within the soffit air cavity. fill the cavity with light insulation batts leaving any necessary air space for venting. on the lower front, a hard backed panel with a cloth covered absorber to cut the desk reflections.
Hi Glenn
Found out the below the monitor stands 66Hz was a dominant one. So I made 4 helmholtz absorbers tuned to 66.7.
Have attached a few files measured at the sweet spot with my dBx Calibrated mic.
Please let me know what do you think.
Sincerely
Simran
With:::: With helmholtz
Without::::Without the absorber
The first pic is the resonating frequency of the helmholtz.

looks like your HH resonator has done a decent job @ 66hz
Hey! The work has finally started and going good.
here is so far. have done flush mounting partially. Please find the room response @ 1meg sweep.
And a pic of partially flushmounted speakers.

couple of spots with +/- 15db but then once you finish the soffits and add the cloud this should start to come in much closer.
Hey Glenn! Things getting much better. fixed 19mm marine grade around the frame. Rock wool stuffing.
Tom will be doing 13mm sandwich. :)
Once the slats come on the left and right side and broad band absorbers on bck wall. It shld be fun. Planing to make one QRD for upper back wall or a skyline for over head diffusion
Here are a few more pics. What we did today
Glenn. Perforated panel vs Slat/slot absorber
What would u prefer?
i'm slat/slot panel guy myself
Hi Glenn,
Flushmounting done. Ive constructed insulated and installed the slat frame (the modular one floating around)Will be splaying the ceiling at 10 degrees followed by 30 degree following 35degrees) Broadband absorbers overhead.
Backwall is currently fitted with a 2" frame having rockwool of 96density.
Heres the response
Glenn how would one calculate the slots for modular slat absorber which is floating around.
Coz the cavity depth ie the distance between the rockwool and the slot will not be constant through out in my case.
:shock: :?:
thanks

if you look at what rivernile has done - using a variety of slat/slots for broadband approach is best.
Hey. This is the update for the day: Installed the cloud. And did a sweep. Am i heading to the right direction?
Please help
Simran
Heres the back wall absorber @ tweeter level
Hey Glenn! what do u think about filling out the back wall with QRDs @ 155Hz Freq low being 116Hz and high being 565Hz?
i think you need a lot more absorption in that room - i'd lower the cloud down 30cm and make it thicker. i'd say some additional clouds hung down as well and a super chunk on the back wall-ceiling corner. the QRD are nice. i'd suggest no absorber be less than 100mm thick though.
Hey Glenn. I lowered the back ceiling and stuffed it with the insulator. Heres the change.
Do you think so the lower frequency spikes are due to the acoustic loading of the wall since im running the monitors bypassed of any eq from the back panel?
Let me know how it has turned out to be? :D
Love and regards
