I'll build the hangers today
Hope to take pics
For my next future studio you should come to Chile John :P
Ok hangers done!
I hope they work if not the room already sounded good
I was able to fit 3 2.2mt hangers inside the cavity
:D
Mi studio is almost done.
A black leather sofa arived yesterday  Hope it traps some bass
Finally I'm gonna build 4 "super panels" as I'll call them. Basically is a huge broadband absorber, probably 8 inches thick. Will put them in my back wall and my front wall. And I think I'm done. The room already sounds very good, even with small treatment. Its pleasing to mix in there
As long as I get those panels built I'll call a pro photographer to do a session and finish this thread :D
cool javier - Looking forward to the final pics. :)
man, you're actually gonna FINISHI it? wow! haha, unlike many other here on the forum (incl. me... whoops)
Neh, we're actually making progress (still doing patching and repair work, updates soon)
Have to say, you're room looks cool. Whish I could "hear" it too. :shot:
Hehe.
Yeah. It has been a tough time. In the meanwhile I'm mixing some albums and built my small (but cool :D) studio. Built 2 room in a room rehearsal rooms (with ducting and everything, have to mention we built TWENTY 2x4' broadband panels) for bands (paid by the hour), and now we are in the middle of the second studio construction (drum room). Quite some work I must say
Also, ro. I built another "Ro's Door". You remember I just made one? Well because I thought my existing solid core house door would do the job for the outer leaf.. well guess what, it sucked. so I did another super door for the outer leaf (sorry, no pics of the construction haha) But its bassically, 3 sheets of 20mm MDF, sandwished by 2 sheets of 9mm MDF, pine for the hinge side, and a 5mm sheet of high density acoustic rubber or something in the middle (its like 2000kg/m3). It weights a lot !!
Will have pics soon (trust me. with all these work, its impossible to get a free afternoon to make thos damn panels, including I have a girlfriend :) ). I want to impress you guys with the finished result (like extreme makeover lol )
Free time.... tell me about it. I have a wife and son which will need some of my attention too :)
Not to mention all the other stuff (like fixing my house, playing some instruments, do some (computer) coding etc)
I hope the door 'situation' will be fixed by adding that second door. (as long as it equals your wall's mass and have it sealed properly you'll be safe). now show them titti... eh, pix!
come on you are very good on that too. what about some cool HDR pictures with some naked girls??? 8)As long as I get those panels built I'll call a pro photographer to do a session and finish this thread :D
hehe
Well. Lets try some HDR pictures then! Maybe it looks cool. Gotta bring my tripod tho
Spam?
I think so, already pushed the spam alert button :)
I've made 8 more broadband panels intended to go (4) to my real wall. (2) for first reflections on side walls. And (2) very large panels for the front corners.
Note that I already have 6 panels (2 in my front wall, 4 on side walls)
Im afraid is too much?????
I think in gonna put some carboard on the corner panels to keep it more alive. other than that. Dunno if its too much untill i put them on my walls. Note that my whole ceiling is made of fiberglass ceiling tiles
Yes, that's a good plan Javier.. adding a filter in front of corner traps (which work best for low-end absorbers as you know)
I'm re-thinking the panel placement on my control room. So for a change, I'm always wondering if I'm doing it well or not.
I have a specific question that maybe someone chimes in.
Is it worth placing panels behind my listening position on side walls? after I've treated the first reflection points..
THe only benefit I could see is to bring the RT60 of the room down.. other than that.. any thoughts?
Also, I have a great luck because the window thats towards the recording room is JUST in my right wall first reflection point .. (and no, i didnt screw it up. that was the only place i could make the hole for the window, because there were two pillars on the other side. check the build pics) So. What can I do about it? Maybe a removable panel? Oh, thats gonna look ugly
bummer dude.... a removable panel / gobo is the option when in mixing stage.
Yeah, I agree with Ro. Knowing your room, I reckon a gobo on wheels would probably best: I don't think a removable panel would look good in your room, even though it would work just fine acoustically. Plus, a gobo on wheels would also be useful in the live room, for some situations: Just wheel it down the hall!a removable panel / gobo is the option when in mixing stage.
I think i managed to place a panel just at the reflection point. I think its no big deal
I did some quick measurements with my final treatment and my RT60 looks pretty good. All ringings got controlled.
So far I have two issues that I need taking care of:
1.- I have a 15db deep at 70hz. very low, so I'll look onto a tuned membrane trap or something tuned to 70hz.
2.- I still have flutter echo when clapping my hands, but my frecuency response is good, and also the rt60 (about 400ms)
I dont wanna put any more panels because it will look like too much panels on my walls!! So if anyone things of a way of getting rid of that. If not, I'll live with it
Cellphone pic... good pics in progress :D
Is that the same one we saw when I was over there a few weeks back? If so, I still suspect your floor might have something to do with it, since that did seem to be the resonant frequency of the floor, roughly. Have you considered spreading around some heavy throw rugs on the floor? Not sure if that would help, but worth a try! - Stuart -1.- I have a 15db deep at 70hz. very low, so I'll look onto a tuned membrane trap or something tuned to 70hz.
Im afraid the floor was ringing at 50hz
I think im gonna put some small diffusers spread arround the empty spaces of the room. Something that looks cool. I like wood.
Other than that. I dont want any more panels.
Pics as promised
Hope to hire a pro to do them for real , new website etc.
Hope you like it

This is great.
Yeah, but you have to hear how Javier's place SOUNDS! You think it looks good? It sounds even better! I was over there last week, so that's first-hand testimony. The LR is amazing (John's design, of course!), and the CR isn't entirely finished but still sounds pretty darn good, if you ask me. Much better than his old place, and better than practically all of the studios that I've been to in Santiago.
Good job, Javier! Something to be proud of, for sure.
