THere solid but not one piece. I cut them down a little at the bottom as it wasn't straight.
Will fill in all the locks, latches and handle holes with a filler.
I'm running 4 x XLR, 2 x Headphone, 2 x Tie lines to drum room, 2 x tie lines to control room and a BNC video cable (JIC)
More picks to come-
lilith,
I know it might be a tad late to mention this, but I too did some CYA and added things to my panels (and have some extra's to add as well)... might I suggest adding a Cat5e or Cat6?
If you ever do, or potentially will ever do VO or ADR work, you might want to think about the fact that with a Cat5e/6 you can actually push computer video over that connection. (e.g. the dialogue)... so they aren't just for network activity.
I also added 2 midi lines to each panel
HI,
thanks xaMdaM, Or is it Mel Gibson! :D
Cat 5 yes, great Idea I'll add two of them.
Midi?! Hmm I dont really see the point in running 5 pin DIN to the vocal booth?
I can imagine it's an expenpence cable run as well-12meters??
Plus, If I ever need it, i'll make up some adaptors.
I tend look at a booth more as an isolation booth, than a vox booth...
So, if I get some plank spanker in, that's got a midi rig that we stick in the iso....
Or if there a singer/songwriter that plays keys...
It's no biggie mind you, but my doors are pretty darn tight, and there's no way I could run a cable out the door w/o cutting it in half... so it's more CYA than anything...
I would add double what you think you'll ever need as a rule of thumb. 4 mics for drums seems a bit on the light side. Go with 8 and see.... (wait, just re-read your post..... 4 for a vocal/small iso seems fine. That's what I have in the same kind of room....) I would say take all your tie lines back to a central machine/patching area so you can patch anywhere, anytime.
I have 6 BNC and 6-8 Cat6 to each room regardless and who knows if I'll need them. Cat6 and RG6 cable is CHEAP, so don't scrimp! Just run it and don't terminate if that's too much to deal with. You can always add the ends later. CAT6 is great for all sorts of stuff. My headphone rig runs on it! Eucon runs on it..... put it all in a patchbay and you're good to go!

Not sure what to do with the door. It looks a little bit too much like an external door. Might add a thin layer of MDF to finish off.
Layed lami flooring. I'd run out of the free stuuf I was given so had to bite the bullet and buy 2 x boxes.

OK, a little bit of progress.
I’ve painted the outside of the vocal booth, ready to start the adjacent drum room.
Run power, network and mic cable.
I've also finished off the lighting cloud.
On to the hard stuff!
Solar panels in....YAY! It’s been hailing and raining for most of the week. But will keep you informed on the savings to my electricity bill( if any hey John). PA120014.JPG

Electrician came yesterday and ran the cable to the studio. It seems a little light to me??

Put a 17 circuit sub panel. BUT earthed it to the wall!
Which I thought was a bit scary?? Thoughts
I have got him coming back to put in an earth stake at the studio. I should get him to remove the frame earth??
I don't think he's earthing your system "TO" the wall: I think he's grounding your wall as well, which is probably a good idea. Ask him why he did that, and I bet he'll give you some good reasons.
What do you think about that cable thickness.
How big should it be for 20amps?
Hard to say from the photo, plus I'm used to 220 volt systems and Chilean code, not 110v USA code. We use different types of conductors here. It LOOKS like it might be OK, but don't take that as gospel! if you are at all concerned, then check with another electrician. And it's usually better to oversize wiring if you can.
Are you sure that 20 amps is enough? That will only give you about 2 kva for your studio at 110 v. Is that enough?

Hey Lilith (or Deanna I guess it is?)
Your sliding glass door looks fantastic with the solid wood frame/doors and all. You've probably seen on my thread that I got a vinyl clad door with solid wood framing? The sound transmission that I'm going to end up with will probably be sufficient for what I need but its certainly not as good as I had hoped it might be. Have you been able to do any tests with yours yet? Do you have an idea of what transmission will be like?
Looking good! I have solar panel envy. I'm going to be sucking a fair bit of juice I presume.

No electronic test yet as I have not hung the plasterboard on the ceiling! I'm a bit scared and procrastenating (spelling  )
But when I have the stereo playing in the shed and close the sliding door I can only hear noise from the open roof. Even with my ear right against(1cm) the door seals.
Plus the 2nd identical door is coming. So i'm hoping it will be great. I have no neighbours, just looking for separation between rooms.
electrics electrics electrics
Doing stained tasmanian oak GPO/light switch mounts in the vocal booth, (natural everwhere else)
Going to keep the decor in there quite dark and moody.
deeps reds,earth and brown.
1st BIG mistake.
Picked up my mic plate from the laser cutter's.
They look pretty good. Very shiny.
thought the text could have been a bit neater, but for $130 for 4 plates.
Can't ask for more........
then start pot rivetting in the Neutrik connectors and OMG
the screw hole are on the wrong side!!
So I go back to the downloaded CAD from the Neutrik web page and that's what they have!!!
then in the tiniest print is says "rear"!!!!!!
even though it's clearly showing the front panel and front of the connector(buttons, switches, sockets and writing all front on)
So i'll re-drill the new holes or flip the plate and loose the ingraved text.
Had a go at re-drilling the holes and it's pretty easy. So wasn't to bad in the end.
Heading in to Sing Sing studio's in Melbounre today!
The band I mix live is mastering there 2nd single. I won't be touching the knobs but am very excited to see a real studio.
