Very nice! Amazing, in fact! We are all happy for ya buddy! Green is not "my color", but it definitely looks great, and all of the color matching ("colour" for you blokes) really looks nice. Sarah must have helped you there, eh? ;) It is going to be a very relaxing environment in which to work, and that is going to pay dividends down the road for sure.
Lou All i can say is WOW! Its looking fantastic, just sent you a PM about visit sometime :D WARNING - UK SPECIFIC QUESTION :D If you've already mentioned it i'll apologise in advance, but i'm now struggling to find local supplier of Backer Rod and also looking for advice on what Acoustic Sealant you used. I've found a firm called sealant distribution in Portishead (nr Bristol) who will sell to non trade for Backer Rod, just wanted to see what acoustic sealant you recommend and if there is somewhere closer (along M4 coridoor would be good)
Morning guys – I hope you’re all well as per usual. In a rush this morning, so a quick update to show you where we are. Can I start by saying thank you to whoever decided that this thread should be ‘stickied’. I’m flattered that the info provided here is considered worthy of the reference area, and moreover, really honoured to be amongst the likes of Keith, Aaron, Jon (Namaste), Sideshow, Lord Tim and Ken. Very many thanks.  Firstly then good people, the replies. Avare – Nice one mate, I’m glad you’re enjoying this as well. Mosh – Where you been Dude? Start saving my friend, you’d be more than welcome. Kendale – Hi Ken, great to hear from you again. As for your question, well, naturally I can’t commit to a specific date yet, however, the plan is to get the monitoring and desks in asap so that we can ‘white noise’ the room and tune/treat if and where necessary. I can tell you though that I’m booked here for a live brass session the week before we get married! Groff – Thanks man. Joey – Ha Ha! No worries dude, I hope thing are working out for you. DH – Bang on correct Sir. Sarah did indeed chose the paint. JohnP – Sorry for the delay bud. I used Ainsworth Insulation in Fareham. They’re on 01489 885566, ask for Mark on the front desk and mention my name. I used their Acoustic Fire rated caulk. They charged me £1.80 per tube plus VAT. Delivery might be an issue but I’d give it a go.  Ok then, update and pics time. Last week was manic, with the final push on construction culminating in a high spirited party on Saturday night, to say a massive thank you to the Latvians. Gene, Archie, and Maaris, have flown home for a two week break with their families, prior to starting their next project in Leeds. Aside from the front lobby/kitchen area, phase two of Studio 4’s construction is FINISHED! Yes Gentlemen you heard me right; finished. :D :D :D The next step is the front lobby kitchen, all the final tinkering, and furniture installation. This starts on Friday and will basically be Jeff and I for around three or four days – I hope. After that it’s phase three; gear, wiring, and tuning! Here come the pics folks – Enjoy!. Final window detail – Live room to control room. The cardboard is only there to hold the 45’s perfectly flush whilst the glue sets, they’re now gone. Live room to iso booth. Iso booth ceiling looking real nice. :D ‘Bead’ detail where necessary to hide any otherwise visible staples. The live room ceiling is just great, especially at night. First glimpse at my finished surround pods, the grey looks incredible against the greens, and you can also see the sensor for air-con system 1 Maaris attaching the final short lengths of skirting around the rear lobby. Control room ceiling is definitely an eye-catcher. Void between control room and front lobby around barrier wall. Left surround pod. Nicely concealed mains points underneath each pod. The mains for the surround monitors is already in place within the soffit enclosures. A couple of shots without flash, or tripod for that matter, to try and give you a more accurate impression of the colours. ‘Bead’ detail above control room door. This is the fabric panel that simply rests on the top of the architrave that surrounds both the control room and front lobby entrance doors. This whole void area is basically black, and gives a really cool unobtrusive vibe. :D Gene’s silencer for the toilet extraction fan. We finally found a heavy duty latch to hold both lobby inspection hatches. This is the front one with more of Archie’s incredible fabric work. Control room skirting board. Then on to the penultimate stage of the door installation – the rubber sealing strip. This has no contact with the magnetic seals, but does provide total ‘belt and braces’ on the ‘air-tight’ side of things.  The final stage for the doors is of course the closers. These took a whole day to install so that all my doors shut perfectly. :D :D :D And so to the party. I enjoy a pint as I’m sure you’ve worked out, and rarely drink spirits. These glasses contain 48 percent proof, homemade German Schnapps! Killer!   Three highly talented individuals that I hope will remain friends for many years to come. Gene, Maaris, and Archie. Thank you guys you’ve been brilliant.  That’s it guys, preliminary tests of isolation between the rooms have been a bit crude, and premature, given that there are still loft hatches to be replaced, cable access/air-con gas runs to be sealed etc, but I’m totally blown away with the results already. :D :D :D :D :D Thanks for reading guys, stay tuned for the furniture,  Warm regards to you and yours, Lou. 8)
Lou Congrats I was lurking in the background watch your build on the Childout room and the Studio.. When I'm visiting my Parents in Birmingham, I love to swing by>> Again Congrats :thu:
Man......I'm getting these guys to build my studio! Is it too rude to ask what they charged you? John S says about $1200AUD per sq meter. You may have to do a few metric/currency conversions. Is that about right? I'll be getting my studio built for me one day too, maybe in about 10 years time when I'm 50? You got hitched yet?
Dude, that´s freaking amazing :D hope mine looks half as good as that! Cheers 8)
Homemade German Schnapps??? Are you nuts??? I am too old for that crap now... as you mentioned, just give a pint or a glass of wine, and I am good to go! Although my wife likes to talk me into having margaritas when we go out. The tequila goes right to my head! The place look stellar as usual my friend. Great job! We all hate you.
yeah... POSER! :P congrats on finishing st.IV (saint four?! how bout that for a studio name, haha!)
I thought you were going to post pictures of your neighbors mowing the lawn. What the hell are all these pictures about... Stellar...absolutely awesome. And the fun really begins now. Wiring :P Love the pics without flash. Amazing colors. Have to admit with flash on I wasn't diggin the colors to much..but now? WOW Nice job Lou...job well done...Now get on it to start makin the music  Peace Tom
goddamn!!! it's almost there now! can't wait for the console/table furniture to arrive! I was in UK (London and Brighton) last week and I was seriously considering coming over to see the work in person. I'll actually be back from May 13 (for a couple of concerts) so, who knows, maybe I'll pop by!! PM me!! best a
Morning chaps – A real quick update (by my standards), to show you where we are. Yul Rarse – By all means Dude, next time you’re in the U.K. pop down. I’m about an hour and 45 south of Birmingham, but dead easy to get to. :D DDDD – Guess what my friend? Jeff and his crew are building a studio in Perth in October! You never know mate. As for cost, well, that really depends on what John means by $1200 AUD per square meter. If he’s referring to floor area, then that’s pretty much bang on. That figure is around £573.00 and I had a 40 square meter floor area to start with. If however John is pricing for the square meterage of built surfaces, then of course this would be for all floors, walls and ceilings. In which case I’ve done extremely well! Bear in mind that in my case, and I presume John’s as well, that’s labour only, and hence, all materials would be on top! Valgaer – DH – Ro – Thanks as always guys. I love St. IV btw! Tom Van – Cheers my friend. Andreas B – As you know buddy, I hope to see you in a couple of weeks or so! So then, to the pics good people. (Don't scroll just yet!) First up, I wanted something really unique for a couch, something that you don’t see very often. This was sourced for me by a mate who works at a furniture outlet. Imported from Italy with a cool price tag of £868.00!  It was ‘end of line’ stock and re-priced at £199.00 to get it out of the shop. All I had to do was drive to Salisbury and pick it up. Straight in the back of the Volvo! :D :D :D It’s beautifully made, really comfortable, fits in the room perfectly and looks totally amazing. Sarah is going to make cushions from some of the fabric we have left over. What a scoop.  Then Jeff returned on Monday with his van full of my studio furniture. :D It’s all been custom made by Studiopeople, and ergonomically designed to fit me! :D :D Notice the pre-routed slots for the worktop bolts which will hold it together. Place various sections into position. Start assembling. Left side. Computer cupboard. :D The joints are stunning. :D The tolerances of fit a quite mind boggling.  Talk about accurate measurements from Jeff. (The pods don’t touch the workstation.) And voila, a view from the iso booth into control room, and then on in to the live room with my new workstation fully assembled and in position. I have 18U of rack space each side of me, 14U below the worktop and 4U above. The shelves under the pods make excellent use of space. The whole thing is made out of 26mm solid ash veneered M.D.F. The sliding tray is for my trinity, and the large hole is where the tascam’s will sit. I love it! :D :D :D Well I said this was going to be a quick update but at least you’re up to speed. The front lobby ceiling is now also finished and the lighting there is sorted too. The toilet wash basin is plumbed in, and that area is ready for tiling. Next up is cable running, all of which will be concealed either in the cavities, over the top of the control room, or in an ash partition around the under-side perimeter of the workstation. Yes folks, Studio 4 will appear to be a cable free studio, everything hidden. Take care guys, stay tuned for the gear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man, it’s getting close.  Warm regards, Lou. 8)
Thanks James, and trust me, the camera has yet again, killed the colours! It looks as funky as hell. Once I've got some gear in here, I intend to do a proper video walkthrough and post a link up here for those interested! Regards Dude, Lou. 8)
I (along with many others :D ) have been following your progress, and finally had to step in say that this place is looking fantastic! I'm very happy for you that things have come together and that you found the perfect builders to help you see this through. Not to be a buzzkill- just a quick question about your surround speakers and desk. Are those rack shelves at the back corners of your desk going to cause problems with your surround speakers? They appear to be directly in front of the speakers. Thanks for continuing to post- I check in every morning in hopes to see a new post from Lou! Andy
Hey Snowdog99 - That's not 'buzzkill' it's a damm good point! To answer your question, the position of everything has basically all been designed to accommodate me. I agree that the photos do make the desk look far more in the way than it actually is, however the Air 15's tweeter is well above the top rack sections, and I assure you that the woofer's direct focus will not 'bounce' off the side. I'm sure you know as well as me that the bass end of these babies goes just about everywhere within reason, and so consequently it's not as crucial to have a totally clear line of sight so to speak. Please also bear in mind that once I've got the desks and monitoring in, plus at least a CD player, it's a massive tune up of the room to iron out any potential niggles. Well spotted though my friend. The front monitors are upwards of the surround, and angled down to get their focus above the meter bridges on the desks (for the same reason), yet still 'hit' the sweetspot.  Kind regards, Lou. 8)
Great! I honestly couldn't believe, after all the planning, that something like this would have been missed. I'm glad that it's all good! Like you, I can't wait to see it with the Tascams in place- I'm considering this mixer for my place as well... Eventually, I'll start posting some pics- I know that the consensus here is that "no pics, doesn't exist." I'm just in the dreadfully boring stage of ceiling beef-up, and there have been enough pics of that to bore anyone into submission. I love the surround pods, and the custom desk is bang on! I do like the couch too- your choice of colours hasn't proven wrong so far, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Can't wait for the virtual tour! Cheers, Andy
"Orange is a very high energy color. Its creativity juices are extremely intoxicating and sweet tasting. Orange screams with sexual energy. Because of its highly-charged intensity some people cannot comfortably wear this color." http://healing.about.com/od/colortherap ... rdrobe.htm I bought a solid orange button down shirt a few years ago, My Charlotte really didn't like it, still doesn't. Now I know why!!! All that screaming and intoxicatin' and sexual intensity :) I still like my shirt and I think that is one heck of a fine couch brother Lou :)
    Nice one Brien and thanks dude. You do realise that DH will be ordering a dozen pairs of bright orange boxer shorts now don't you?  Regards, Lou. 8)
its looking really good. the joinery looks amazing. all the colours give a very distinctive look which i think could be a big seller to clients. i here from a lot of artists that they hate dark dingy studios. lou have you name her yet? or has it just gone over my head. joey
