Not a proffesional electrician by any means but I see these every day imbedded in concrete Tom
All I found in 2005 NEC is this:
(D) Protection for Floor Receptacles: Standpipes of floor receptacles shall allow floorcleaning equipment to be operated without damage to receptacles.
Google search for "floor receptacle" yeilds a lot of products and various info. Marc

On another note, considering I have so much power up front already, and don't even have those circuits turned on, I can just pull the recepticles, wire nut the wires, and put on a cover plate. And be done w/ it. Use the recepticles elsewhere, where I need a few anyway.
Aaron, Maybe you misunderstood. I think they are fine. :? On another note I just notice you used orange receptors for your plugs. I checked on pricing for these and they were $13 a piece. I am being cheap since it would have cost over $300 for my studio. Glad to see someone buck up...... Congrats so far on the build and the upcoming session Tom

I got lucky... Ebay! I paid anywhere for $2-$5 a piece from different auctions.
:? :? :? :? Well, things are getting hairy. Down to the wire (no pun intended... ) for getting this stuff ready for the session this weekend. I'll have to do a temporary rig up of some wires and connectors just to make it all happen. I'll let y'all know how it goes...
Aaron, You'll be fine this weekend - may the Force be with you! :) Have fun making MUSIC for a while!!!! :!:
Well, I got some wires pulled for a cue system, put plastic on the ceiling to keep the insulation from coming down on everyone. Going to wire up about 12 channels of the 24 pair snake to get some lines working. Bought a D112 on ebay last weekend, so hopefully it'll show up in time for the session. Man, I'm tired of spending money. I need some coming in! Anyways, I think I'll be OK. Just scrambling to make it all happen. :D Aaron
Now, how in the heck did I end up on the second page? Well, here's the verdict on the first session in the studio... Went great, sounds great, and everyone likes it. !! Hurray! Now onto some other issues...I've gotten my first ground hum...Argh! It's between the console and HDR. I just borrowed a goodie, so I'll give an update to it's success or failure in the next day or two. Anyway, we tracked basics on 10 songs on Saturday, and overdubs on 8 of those on Sunday. They will be over this evening to do the overdubs on the other 2 songs tonight. I'll drop in later...
Hey Aaron Congrats on the progress. You've come a L-O-N-G way since your first post in this thread. I even went back to look at some of my first posts and found I've been on here 2 years... Anyway, I had some questions about your monitors. If I'm not mistaken, you had some JBL monitors with a sub. I'm just curious to know... 1.) Did they "kick" during your session? 2.) Were they loud enough? Crisp enough? 3.) Are you satisfied with your sub placement? 4.) Did you use the Room Mode Correction feature to "tune" your speakers? My apologies if this is the incorrect speaker you have... Thanx
1.) Did they "kick" during your session?
Oh Yeah!
2.) Were they loud enough? Crisp enough?
They were. I just need to finish some acoustics in the CR though.
3.) Are you satisfied with your sub placement?
I really haven't tuned in the room yet. I don't have windows or doors in yet.
4.) Did you use the Room Mode Correction feature to "tune" your speakers?
I have the first generation of JBL's. LSR28. They do not have the RMC.
Congrats on the progress.
Thank you. I'm just glad to finally be squirting electrons around the place. And making a few $$$ while I'm at it. Like I said, I still have a long ways to go, but as long as clients don't mind a little dust, I can now at least be productive in some recording. Problem I have now though, is I need to buy a few core pieces of gear, mics, etc. which slows me down from spending the money on materials to finish the studio. One of those catch 22's. But I have at least a couple more clients looking to get in. Have a possible session already booked for the end of April. And probably a couple between now and then. So things are lookin' good.
Sorry for the lack of updates the past few weeks. Been really busy between the day job, working on the studio, and tracking in the studio. Last weekend (Saturday) I started the acoustics frameout on the back wall of the control room. (don't have pix yet). Spent the rest of the weekend tracking vocals. All is going well there with the exception of one musician w/ sticky fingers. Other than that, it's all coming together. I'll try and post more later. Aaron
Sticky fingers were made to be broken
Greetings Everyone! I know it's been a few weeks since I've posted anything. It's been a crazy year so far. Between the day gig, and the studio, I hadn't had much time to get online. Well, here's some updates. The two major things I've been working on have been the rear wall in the control room, and due to the previous incident, I've decided to finally get the studio bathroom back into working shape. So I've been doing some really crappy work...pun intended! The first pictures here will show some of the treatment started on the rear wall. The next set will show where I've dug up my concrete w/ a jackhammer and concrete saw. Yeah, it was the worse case scenario unfortunately. I had a camera run down the sewer line and found multiple issues.

I still need to add some 703 and build the broadband absorber yet, but I'll get to that when I pick up all the wood for the trim out...

Hey...who's this guy... Uhh...that's me getting down and dirty...

It amazes me the stupid crap people do. Who the hell would bury the cleanout trap UNDER the concrete!!!???
Image not preserved: Pict0168R.jpg
Aside from the inside slab, I had to cut out 2 major sections of my concrete outside as well...

Now, I've got the new stuff going back in. I installed 2 new traps, not just one. I've actually finished beyond the T in the last picture, but don't have the pix w/ me today.

Nice pics Aaron. You're working on a job I fear the most about my 40 year old house... digging up pipes under the concrete, mine run under bedrooms. What year was your house built? Did who ever not leave an accessible clean out somewhere? For what's it's worth... my neighbor (AC contractor) is just about done redoing a bathroom. He put in new pipes including a "T" in one spot, he rebuilt what pipe was there before. Then he hired a plumber to finish it out. Plumber removed his work and replaced the "T" with a "Y". I think it was something to do with code.... I don't know exactly why but can only guess the "Y" will give better flow and less chance of blockage at a pipe connection. Might be worth it (if you already haven't) to get a plumber to look over your work before you bury it. And thanks, you've given me DIY inspiration to try the job myself if I ever need to. That respirator sure portrays an image  Is that a one piece thing or what is on you head under the respirator? AND the start of the absorber looks good. Marc

I think it is hearing protection.

The house was built in 1955.

There was no cleanout at all. Had to pull the toilet to fish the line for brown trout.

I installed one of these at the end (not in pix above) where the toilet and shower meet. The other T there above will go to the sink and the vent that goes to the roof.

It's a respirator, ear muffs and safety glasses.
Cool man, must feel good to get this job out of the way :D Marc
Yeah, I haven't been able to use that bathroom for 2 years or so now. Hadn't really been that big of an issue until now. But if I'm going to have clients in the studio, I need to keep them in the studio and out of the house. Especially after a few weeks ago.
