Attaboy, Aaron! That's working like a non-injured-back person! It is safe to say that you've fully recovered from your accident? If not, those pics sure make it seem like you have! 8) So, tell us your reasoning behind using plywood on your walls... (I think I already know, but humor me. 8)) --Keith

There's a couple. One, for attaching acoustic treatments to. Two, I plan to use some type of wood finish in the main tracking room, so I need something to tack it to. Three...You'll have to wait until it's done to see it. It'll be a surprise. On another note...looks like I'm having a session in the next few weeks. I spent all weekend wiring Elco/Edac connectors to plug into the console. Unfortanately they're going cheap and doing digital instead of using the 2" machine. And w/ the recent announcement of Quantegy discontinuing they're tape, the stuff jumped up $100 a roll. I'll post pictures of the Edac connector assembly. I forgot my camera this morning, so I won't get them posted today. I plan to pull the 24 pair this week for the mic lines in tracking rooms 1 & 2. Maybe even for the iso room & entry room.
OK, here's my specialty area...finally get to do some tech work... Here's a step by step on the Elco/Edac's I put together this weekend... The first couple steps are doing the cable prep w/ stripping back the cable about 4" then putting on shrink tubing onto the shield, etc...

Next we have the cable being finished up w/ the prep work, tinning the wires, sliding on the shrink wrap that will be shrunk after the connector is put on, etc...

Then it's time for the pins to go on the cable...

Now all the pins are on the ends of all the wires...let the fun begin...the pinout...

And the connector being finished up...

And here's quick glance at the DB25's on the other end...

Damn, you do nice work, Aaron. :-) Remind me never to show you any of my soldering jobs... --Keith
Nice one Aaron, good clean work as far as I can see. I've done 4x 8x3pins connectors like that myself just a few months ago, TEDIOUS! Luckily I'm quite skilled at soldering myself too so it only took euh.. a few hours :( Tho I don't mind doing some soldering job, I'm not about to do such job again the next years, haha.
Well, I finally broke down and made another purchase for the studio... It's a 42" LCD... 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Where's the green-with-envy smilie when you need it? Very nice! - Andy
Aloha,

Here it is            Congrats! Nice move, Aaron. Aloha 8)
...and, yet, it looks small compared to that ginormous console! Nice move, Aaron! 8) --Keith
Aloha, I meant to ask you this last post...what brand/specs, as I've been shopping for one myself. Aloha 8)

I bought the LG 42LC2D I wanted the LCD instead of the Plasma since I'm hooking up my computer and Hard Disk Recorder to it mostly, although the Digital ATSC Tuner is nice to have for picking up local HD broadcast. It's only a 720p, not 1080. But most things are not 1080 yet, so no biggie. Eventually, if I go 5.1, I'll have to move that monitor. I'll put it up stairs and put in 2, 32" LCD's on either side of the left & right front monitors. The price was right, more or less. Although I can get LG's at dealer cost, this model apparently has been discontinued, so I was unable to order it. But it was on sale locally. And it fits, and looks good. Most of these plasma's and LCD's are silver. This one is mostly black, w/ a small streak of silver at the bottom. Now I'm just trying to figure out if I'm going to need a KVM or if I can manage to put the other source through either HDMI or Component.
Well, believe it or not...I've got a session booked for the 23rd-25th. That's the reason for the scrambling to get everything connected, etc. I have lots to do between now and then. Including possibly more acoustic treatment in the control room. I ordered a Masterlink yesterday, so I should see that the first of next week. Now if this blasted cold winter air would just move along, I could move a little faster... And considering I hadn't done much other than studio construction the last 3 1/2 years, I've got to remember how all this stuff works...
Alright...another new toy...it just came in today. Bought a Masterlink for mixdown. Now I get to go home and wire it up. Finally...a cd player at +4 instead of this crappy -10 consumer grade. Looking forward to it. :D
OK, been busy w/ some wiring this past week. I'll post a few pix here to show the chaos... This is some of the wiring for the LCD on the front wall, and the 24 pair wire for tracking rooms 1 and 2...

And here's the area in the mechanical room where they just pass through. I'll be building a trough for them so they don't get stepped on, etc...

Damn! Look at you go! 8) Hey -- is it legal to have outlets facing straight up out of the floor without special covers? --Keith

I'll look that up tonight in the NEC book. Marc

Probably not. :? Remember...that was 3 years ago. There are a few things I would probably modify or change as well as things I've learned a little more about over the past few years during this construction. Point me in a direction and I'll replace the IG floor receptacles, and swap it at some point. It's a 4" x 4" box...but w/ mud ring (3/4") for dual outlets.
