I'm so sorry, Aaron. :( Man, that really sucks.
That heat you're experiencing is a system that has been migrating eastward since it smacked us with 11 straight days of 100+ temperatures in our area (a record from the previous 9). I sat that one out and didn't do any work on the studio for two weeks. That heat wave possibly killed dozens of people in our state.
Relax and take care of yourself, bro!

Well, I finally went and saw the doc. They took some spinal xrays of my neck area. Should get the results of those tomorrow. On the other note, finally getting some relief from the pain. The doc gave me some muscle relaxers and pain killers. So at least I can move around a little more comfortable, but I won't be doing anything strenuous and make things worse. Although it is tempting to start work on the studio some more.
That's the only bad thing about taking that stuff, it gives you that false sense of being ok, when in fact you can injure yoursef even more.
I start physical therapy next Tuesday, so hopefully that will get me back into shape soon to move forward on the studio.
I guess the next tasks are to finish up the conduit runs to the tracking rooms so I can pull electrical wiring. After that I can finish any insulation I hadn't put in yet, install the RC channel, and then drywall the tracking rooms. Yippie. Sounds simple, but I need about $1000-$1200 worth of drywall. Then on the walls, I'm attaching plywood, so I have something to attach T&G or some other type of wood finish, trim, etc. Or just be able to attach acoustic panels.
I just bought 3 more variacs off ebay, so I should be able to finish out the dimmers for lighting in the tracking rooms, and the second dimmer in the control room for the back half of the room.
I still need to design or figure out the configuration for the back wall of the control room. In a small design flaw, (but was actually my first intent anyway), I've got to reverse one door in the direction in which it swings, so I'll do the other one the same way. They will swing into the room, but this changes some plans I've had for the back wall.
So instead of having as much of a bass trap, it'll be trimmed down some. My main objective for the back wall from the beginning, and still is, is to use/build a broadband absorber for diffusion on the back wall. Starting from about waist high to the top (except where the HVAC comes in). The lower half is where I'm putting the bass trap.
I got a cost on the JM Superduct board. It's about $60 a sheet (4' x 10'). Now I just need to calculate how much I need. Man that's some expensive stuff.
But, then again, what hasn't been expensive with this project?
You know, the more I think about it, I'm actually pretty darn close to finishing this studio, but it's all been a matter of finances. This year has been the tightest on funds that I've been in for some time.
Here's what I have left as a general thought...
Finish conduits, pull electrical, run lighting electrical, insulate, rc, drywall, caulk, drywall, caulk, floor...plastic/roofing felt/plywood/hardwood/sand/finish, insulate ceiling joists, rc, drywall, caulk, drywall, caulk, trim doors, trim windows, order glass, frame windows, door jams, finish doors and install, seals for doors, rear of control room treatment, finish front wall treatment, finish all other treatments, trim out control room, pull multipair cabling for mic cables, etc, order wall plates, terminate all plates and multipin connections, buy new (used) console, 2" machine, and more new toys...
Well heck, that sums up the majority of it all. Now I just need about 15k for materials, and another 50k for toys.
And no more side adventures with animal bites, car wrecks, hospitals or any other potential life changing events...except maybe a good woman...who can tolerate all this..
...and who can massage that aching back of yours! ;-)...except maybe a good woman...who can tolerate all this..
Among other things......and who can massage that aching back of yours!
PICTURES! Need... more... pictures! Can't take this rehab coming here everyday and not seeing what you have been working on.
:)
Well Hello Stranger...
Pictures! Are you having withdrawals!?
What kind of pix do you want? I haven't been able to do anything the past week or so after my car wreck.
Heck, I'm having withdrawals of not working on the studio. It's driving me nuts!!!! I feel stir crazy, cabin fever, whatever you want to call it. I'm ready to hammer this thing out! Unfortunately though, I do need to take it easy and not stress my back and neck.
I did get the alarm finished last week though, but I think I already mentioned that??? Anyway, I've got monitored smoke detectors in each tracking and control room now, so that's good. Knock on wood...they never have to do their job.
And I'm not about to tote my new 300 pound table saw outside either to cut wood. Even if my back was ok, it's too freakin' hot and humid outside. You know, I actually get more accomplished on this construction project in the winter time, than any other part of the year. The heat, I can deal with to a point, but this damn humidity SUCKS! That's my only real gripe about the South.
Then again, I do miss the Mountains and Ocean in Seattle, and the reasonable temps. But, enough about that. I'm not moving any time soon. At least another ummmm double digits in years probably. Unless I won the Lotto I never play...
So how's your project coming along? Hadn't heard much from you in awhile? Have you started your project yet?
My project is dead. I shut it all down a year ago. Now I just lurk around this forum to live my dream vicariously thru you pictures! :)
Well that's a bummer. So what are you doing now? Do you plan to do anything in the future?
I will eventually do a little home studio. A year ago I started a financial services business. It's nice to actually make some money instead of spending everything I made on the studio!
It is a balancing act...
OK, update. I received two of the variacs yesterday I bought off Ebay. So hopefully I'll get one of them wired up for the other tracking room. Problem is, I've shifted all my boxes into that room, and may not be able to get to the ceiling to wire the temporary light. But we'll figure something out.
:D
You sound like me - rule # 1 on re-organizing; no matter where you put something to get it out of your way, it's WRONG... :?
Hope the rehab is going as well as can be expected; I know at my age that if I wake up with no NEW pains, it's prob'ly gonna be a good day
Yeah, it's the never ending juggling act. What I need now is to add a garage or storage onto the house. Just to have a place to put all my tools and other misc. stuff.
I'll have to do something after the studio is built, just for storage.
Need a place for all my tools I've bought.
...that have yet to be stolen. ;-)
How are you feeling these days? Are you still "down for the count," or are you able to put a ding here and there in the construction?

Greetings all...
Sorry I haven't been here for a week and a half. My father passed away on Thursday Aug. 10th. I had to fly out of town to Portland, OR.
I just got back into town last night after driving across country again.
I'll try and pop in again later, but I'm preoccupied w/ some other things at the moment. Unpacking, etc. of my dad's things. It may be another day or two or three before I get settled back into things.
Thanks.
Aaron
Aaron, man sorry to hear that. I hope your father had a long life and won't be forgotten.
Marc
My condolences also; my dad passed away in 1973, I still think about him and miss him. Take some time to grieve, but try to remember the good parts in the process. By now, those are about all I DO remember :) Steve
Aaron, you have my condolences my friend. I'm so sorry to learn of your loss.
I lost my dad 20 years ago in October when I was just 17.
Please let us know if there's anything we can do. Really. People always say that, but it's true.
Even if it's something we can't do, ask someone. It's important that you take care of yourself during this tough time.
Ditto everything Steve said.
When you have a little more time, post as little or as much as you want about what happened and what you're going through.
Take care, Aaron.
:( I lost my dad 16 years ago, he was 56. never got to see me get married or meet his grandkids, cherish the time you had with him :) Take the time to heal phisicaly as well mentaly. My thoughts and prayers are with you bro.
Thanks everyone.
He was 58 years old. Too young. Unfortunately, he suffered a lot of pain the last 9 years or so. His wife (step mom) died last year of cancer.
You name it, he had just about everything wrong...from Hepatitis C, to Congestive Heart Failure, Cirrhosis of the liver, no cartilage between joints (bone on bone...that was his most pain), leaky legs, weak immune system, no spleen, a vocal cord that was cut by a surgen in New Mexico by accident (hard to talk), etc, etc, etc...
I'm happy to see he is no longer suffering the pain. He outlived everything the docs told him. And even the meds didn't really do much to relieve the pain.
It's been a difficult thing to watch over the years. But now he's in a better place.
Thanks again everyone.
Aaron

Just spent tonight reading this fantastic thread.
What a great job you are doing Aaron.
