OK here we go. Lights in and they work. Whew!!!! A lot of three way switches
Bass traps started and panel traps framed and in the house waiting for linen. Get back to you tomorrow with finished items

Here is my studio.. [SPAM LINK REMOVED BY MODERATOR: IT WAS DEAD ANYWAY...]
Does this mean I am getting popular? First spam on my thread
Feeling pretty good about the weekend. My wife helped out in doing all the panel absorbers. What a time saver and gave me time to get other things completed.
Leaving town for a week and when I return I hope to finish things up.
I have a guitar player thats coming over to install the doors. He is also a Finish carpenter. Thankfully... because I knew the doors would not work very well if I did them
Windows, doors and floors are all thats left. Plus finishing up the slot resonators in the CR plus finishing up the soffit speaker mounts plus touch up paint. Maybe that list is more than I thought
The bath and kitchen will definately be last on the list
Have a great week all and will be checkin in from Kona.
Dont remember which Island Kendale is on but if he's close maybe a hook up. I will PM him tonight
Tom
tom,
looking good. i dig the wall sconces (sp?). do you have slats on the front of your corner trap (pix b00500)? so, just to understand, do you have the whole corner filled with insulation (as in like super chunk bass trap) or is it just a layer of insulation behind the slats in the corner?
have fun in hawaii!
kevin
Kevin,
The bass traps are only a layer of 4" rock wool not a super chunk.
However have not finished the ones in the CR and was wondering if it would help much to stuff with fiberglas insulation behind the 703 . Anyone knows please chime in.
I ran out of the 703 yesterday so I need more for the Soffit mounts and to finish the bass traps in the CR
Thanks for the kinds words about the lighting. Not as happy with it as I wanted to be. I wanted more of a washing of the wall than they put out.
Tom
BacK from the islands. Didn't get to hook up with Kendale but had a great time. He had to work and I had to accomodate the family. Burnt and broken. Slipped on some lava and gashed my leg open. and a bright sunburn, Oh well I will live. Couldn't wait to get back at it.
This is what got finished this weekend
Tom
and more
don't ya love it when a plan comes together !
Man, looking good. I'm jealous again.
Welcome back, Tom!
Too bad you couldn't hook up with Kendale... :-( That would've been cool.
I'm impressed/saddened that you returned home and hit the ground running! Clearly you lost "island time" very quickly! ;-)
You slipped on lava, eh? Must be lava rock, 'cuz if you slipped on actual [b]lava I doubt you'd be telling the story! ;-)
I hope you heal up soon...
Nice work, from what I can see on the postage-stamp-sized screen of my smartphone here...

Aloha Tom,
Congrats on the progress! It's looking good.
Hey, sorry we couldn't hook up while you were out, but it sounds like you had a good time anyway. Glad to hear y'all made it back safely, albeit a little scraped and sunburned.
Looking forward to more progress pics!
Aloha 8)
Thanks guys for the props. Its nice to finally be one of the studios that is nearing the finish line. I have watched others finish and wish it could be me for quite some time.
I had my guys do the floor while we were gone so it made it nice to come home to a clean work space.
Hope to get the glass in this week or hopefully the rest of the slats in the slot resonators. That my friends is time consuming.
And I stand corrected Keith. "Lava Rocks". While in a "lava tube" I was being a tourist not looking down and went down on my shin.
The other pic is of my daughters 1200 feet out. I think they only were 200-300 high. I sat on the boat  Moral support
Tom
Your daughters have more guts than I do, that's for darned sure!!
Looks like you guys had a great time, chin-on-lava-rocks notwithstanding. 8)
Aloha! :D
--Keith
Keith...thats why I sat on the boat.......
Worked a little tonight and got some things finished.
A few windows installed and the soffit mount finish
also the slot resonators basically done
Glad to be home
Tom
I just talked with my door guy and hopefully will have all the doors installed this weekend. There are 9 to install so we will see.
Have the CR windows in the back of my truck and will install tonight. So I think I will bring up the drum kit and do a test for TL. Excited and nervous. I know the acoustics can be corrected. The TL not so much.
The CR flooring is basically the last of it and I should be able to start moving in the gear.
Tom
You'd probably be more nervous if you invited me to test your isolation on your drum kit! I tend to take no prisoners when I let 'er rip!
Good luck! Let us know how it goes! :D

Keith
I'm an old Heavy metal drummer from the 80s. 2-B's
We could make alot of noise together
Actually now you got me thinkin. I need someone to play them so I can listen outside and room to room....Hmmmm...When are you comin this way??
Just went and looked at a Baby grand from Craigs list. The guy wanted $1000 and I talked him into $700. Beautiful antique that needs a serious tuning and buffing. Just found a guy on Craigs list that will move and tune for $185
Gotta love Craig
Need to move it tomorrow before all the doors are in. we'll see
Tom
Too bad you're not in the southern part of your state, 'cuz if you were, I'd probably make the road trip! 8)
For now, please accept my raincheck and a pledge to visit you next time I'm in the Portland area -- which, if I get my way, will be sometime this year. :D
--Keith
Tom,
Congrats on the progress! :)
You say you're about ready to move your gear in?
Got 2 questions for you...
1.) Will you be doing a lot of soldering yourself?
2.) How long do you think it will take you to hook everything up?
Thanx!
Stan very little soldering. Don't like it.
I already have all my cables and cords pulled. I have kept the ends in bags taped up all this time. Hopefully no nails or saw cuts. Tried to be extra careful.
As far as hooking it up Probably a full day
Well Chris, the guitar player/finishcarpenter finished all the door jams and two doors installed. He is very meticulous. He looked at Rods detail in his book for the door jam and type K rubber and made a small jig first to see how it was going to fit together. Very smart I must say. I would have tried doing it on the first door and messed it up. He also said if I would have been more cautious in my rough framing it would have made it a lot easier for him.
But the two doors he has in are perfect in every way. he stood in the live room and myself in the ISO and yelled back and forth. You could barely hear anything and that was before caulking the sides of the jam.
Finished up the windos and they are complete. Sarted the hardwood in the CR.
Oh and also picked up the Babygrand saturday morn and moved it in. We covered it with plastic for now because the live room is our door making room.
Moved in the fridge so we don't have to go down to the house to get beer anymore.
Should have all the doors in by the end of the week and move in everything else as we get some doors on the CR. Don't want any dust going in there
Now these are some nice tools. Brand new he just bought this compound miter with table colapsing hand truck thingy that folded up small.
Hey Rod!!
You talk about shoving mineral wool between the jam and the rough frame before backer rod and caulking the door. I do not have any mineral wool left. I do have some 703 and fluffy fiberglass. Would either of these serve the purpose or should I go get some mineral wool. Most gaps are 1/4" some are in excess of 3/4".
Thanks
Tom
The moment I was waiting for has finally happened
I didn't need to use a decibal meter either. My ears work fine.
Zero TL to the outside with the drums. I will say that again ZERO
I actually had to go back in and say quit F**ck**g with me and hit them hard.
So we cranked up the guitar as loud as the speakers could take and had a very very slight TL (transmission loss) If I walked 10 feet away I heard nothing It was so loud inside I couldn't take it.
Room to room is probably measurable. But still very slight. Actually its higher frequencies that are getting through more than lower ones. Which is awesome. So I have started putting up some smaller absorbers for the highs. I will test it and let you know the levels next post. Not that it matters because its so slight
The acoustics of the live room are impressive. The drums sound very nice. and the piano is majestic. I want to post some pictures but am waiting for the final touches berfore I wow you. Its looking so cool
Tom
YEAH!!!
But I can't let this go: "Zero TL" = "Zero Soundproofing."
I'm sure you meant the sound outside was so low that you couldn't detect it over the ambient noise levels.
Just don't go around bragging about zero TL... The few who know that term will be apt to console you instead of congratulate you! :-D
