even with the splayed walls there will likely be some treatment needed past the listening position to just finalize the overall room response. you can tweak that once you've built and measured.
Warehouse studio design - are you able to help?

Building the front wall of the CR 1.5m higher looks like this.
You can see the space available for hangers in between the ceiling and the black fabric. (and the same at the rear of the room).
If I run with this idea it will require a major rethink of a few other aspects, such as the soffits, the absorber I had above the window, cloud placement, and that big piece of black fabric! In fact I would no longer need that 12 degree slope.
So before I go down this path, I'd love to hear some opinions - is this shape preferable to a lower solid ceiling at 12 degrees?
Previous design inserted for comparison:
remember that the false ceiling doesn't have to be completely soft either.
A soft ceiling with solid slat clouds? :)
Would it make sense for the rear wall to be constructed "inside-out"? That would give me greater depth for the slat-wall cavity and superchunks, and it'd make use of the insulation that would have otherwise been on the outside of the wall.
You still need insulation on the "outside" of the wall! (In the cavity between the two leaves). That is a necessary part of the MSM system. Building a wall inside out does not obviate the need for damping in the air gap. - Stuart -and it'd make use of the insulation that would have otherwise been on the outside of the wall.
Sorry to be vague, in my hasty suggestion of an inside-out wall I meant that (from the inside of the room) it would go insulation->drywall->air->insulation->drywall
Instead of the more usual drywall->insulation->air->insulation->drywall.
But I'm asking the question because I'm not sure of the answer. ;) So your answer is very much appreciated.
the inside-out wall would be: cloth (and/or slats) -> stud (filled with rigid insulation) -> 2-3x drywall -> [air gap] -> other wall. the other wall could be any other single leaf - block/concrete, stud frame with single face etc.
Hi there, This is my first post. Really enjoy the forum and amazed by the amount of quality information on display here. Respect to all concerned :D
Interesting thread this as it concerns a larger studio project, something I'm considering. Have you seen this blog for a large London based studio build?

Rhino, you may find inspiration in some of their ideas.
I've got a few general questions about the project...
You mentioned that you've now got some construction underway, any chance of some pics?
How is your budget working out? The scale of the project is quite daunting so I'd interested to know how you've approached the finances.
Are you designing & building yourself or have you employed any outside help?
Have you managed to get the practice and video rooms up and running yet?
nice blog and photos. one of the studios provisioned by Funky Junk is a studio John Sayers designed. http://johnlsayers.com/Pages/Castle.htm
