The board in the living room sounds like a great conversation piece to me, but I suppose your wife didn't see it that way! (nor would mine) :D

IainThanks guys!
You're making me feel good. :D
Had to take care of a few things... :D
WOW, congratulation Eran!
Having kids is just the greatest thing, it even beats having a private studio.
(there goes the studio build.....:p )
I've read the entire thread over the last 30 minutes and just got to the new little one....congratulations!!!
You've put so much effort into all of this and I'm eager to know how it sounds. I'm planning a VERY similar setup...minus the basement.
I'll have my studio in the garage as a room-in-room concept and will have to sever off part of the studio for a vocal booth. My space size is similar to yours, so I understood your concerns over losing space.
Regarding "talking to yourself"...not a chance. I've read the whole thread and agree wholheartedly with a previous poster that it's been VERY informative.
Enjoy your little one and I'll pic your brain on that air circulation idea later.
Congratulations again...everything else will now pale in comparison to what you've just experienced
Hey thanks Ro and jinglesmountjoy!
I spent two weeks exclusively around mother and baby, lots of work!
But now i'm back to studio and had a very productive day today.
After installing the electricity at the beginning of the week and mounting the A/C unit i painted the room and started working on the wood panels.
I finished the first batch today: One wall in booth and two 4' sections one on each side of the CR.
I'm not so happy with the paint but what to do...
Installed one of th two windows between CR and booth and mounted the fans on the concrete wall in the basement. I first attached them to the floor joist and that was way too loud.
Important point:
If you buy solid core doors from the home depot you should know they are not really solid... the inside is made of some sort of particle material not suitable for fastening. So if you cut beyond the few inches of pine at the perimeter you need to reinforce the door. I left the hinge side untouched so i only had in issue with mounting the handles. Solution was a sleeve they sell as a security protection for handles.

WOW, that looks great  ! Have you had a chance to really check out the ventilation for sound or lack of it?
Thanks!
I first attached the vents to the floor joists and that was way loud.
So i put them on the concrete and now it's almost dead quiet.
The problem i'm having is that the vent hoods that i bought offer a lot of resistance and the air flow is noisy. I bought some grills with wider gaps and it's much better(looks better too) but still not recording level silence.
Right now the vent is not connected to the intake so i expect the air flow to diminish when i connect that additional 10' of duct. I will see then how better it gets.
Cheers
nice one!
Thanks Ro!
Which one?
the whole update :)
More work done.
I managed to do the window trim for the window between CR and booth.
It was actually a challenge cause the frame wasn't flush with the drywall so i had to extend it by a changing margin...no table saw...
I also managed to do a great job on an equipment rack and a monitor shelf/table and then ruin it with poly...what can i do. No time for a sec attempt.
Lesson of the day:
When staining on your deck USE A TARP!!!

I got some 703 and did the studio_drums wall treatments.
12 peaces is all that fit in my Corola...
sure makes it look and sound like a studio...

And thanks again to studio_drums for the tutorial.

Haha Eran! You are making some great progress now! Looking great man!
Congrats again on the baby, it is the reason we are here!
Thanx James!!!
I'm looking forward to having a relationship with the person she grows to be :-)
right now she is practically hanging from her mom's boob. Kind of makes ya feel disadvantaged...
It's o.k, i'm concentrating on the build and want to finish in the coming week or at least start Beta-ing the room and board.
What's cool about building your own studio is that when you are done
YOU HAVE A STUDIO!!! 8)
Hey Eran - All looking totally fab my friend with some great pics to prove it. Please forgive us however when the likes of James and myself, tell you that the beautifull picture of your gorgeous baby daughter, is without doubt one of the most amazing pictures up here! (Remember Brad's little girl's infectious smile with Rod's book in her hands? - Absolutely lovely.) :)
Enjoy the wonder of Fatherhood dude, it's the finest gift life can give you! And, yes, you'll have a great studio as well!
Kindest regards to you and your, obviously adored, loved ones.
