Sorry. I'm not communicating effectively. :D In terms of those options integrating into my studio space and design. Unfortunately I can't change layout (positioning of desks etc) due to functional requirements and the fact it is spatially a small room in real life. Cheers Karl
Bump....
Help Glen or anyone please. Kendale....
Aloha Karl, Sorry for the lapse! Life/work/studio has been kinda hectic lately. :D
Unfortunately I can't change layout (positioning of desks etc) due to functional requirements and the fact it is spatially a small room in real life.
Hmmm, working in/out of the corner presents some challenges. You may find a rather large increase in the bass response, which may tend to influence your levels, eq, etc. adjustments. Let me review your layout again and see what ideas we might come up with. Aloha 8)
Thankyou. You are always helpful as is evryone on this site. Will wait, please take your time I was just starting to panic noone would assist. Cheers Karl
Aloha Karl, Can the bookshelf on the right side of the desk be relocated? (Perhaps to the rear wall/corner?) If so, would something like this be acceptable for all concerned? (Further acoustic treatments to follow) Aloha 8)

Hey Kendale, I really wish I could. It's actually a server rack it has all the termination of cabling for the house, my servers, Pro-Tools Digi003 Rack, audio patch bays for mics and instruments in it as well as the PC that runs pro-tools. :(
Aloha, Okay. Server rack stays. Is the speaker/video monitor layout a possibility? Basically, we're trying to get your monitor/mix position out of the corner while leaving the rest of your room layout more or less undisturbed. Aloha 8)
Hey Kendale, YOu are a legend. I can move the monitor mix position, not a problem. The reason I put it there in the first place was after looking around for ages I saw that most designs/suggestions put mix desks on angles anyway. So I put it there to create those angles. One thing I will say is that in the picture Willo_Studio_1 if you look at the server rack it is situated not beside the desk (It didn't quite fit) but in front of it. It takes up around 20cm of it. If you refer to my original google drawing, it has the correct room dimensions. This may assist with getting a feel for the server rack and desk layout. Basically the desk is actually two desks placed together. The left hand return is 150cm long from rear edge. The depth of the desk is 90cm. The entire length of both desks as they appear along the back wall of the room is 240cm and again the depth of the section is 90cm. There is a little void on the right hand side. The desk doesn't quite make it from one wall to the other. So behind the rack is a void of 40cm from the end of the desk to the right hand wall. The rack then sits on front of the desk. It is a 600mm or 60cm rack, hence the 40cm void and the 20cm section in front of the desk. I wish I could have made it fit but that's the best I could come up with. I even contemplated cutting the desk down although it would have ended up a butchered job. I'll try and revamp my google sketchup drawing in the next day of so to visually reflect what is here. I'm not in a huge hurry. The 3 month old takes up any spare time I used to have, having only one child. Also setting up pro tools I realise this isn't easy. I am in IT and thought it would be a bit more intuitive, WRONG!! Cheers Willo
Aloha, Forgive me for not saying this earlier but....congrats to you and your wife on your new arrival!!! :D :D :D (Getting any sleep, lately?) Like you, my studio is also my home office. After reviewing your pics again, this thought came to mind...have you considered housing your rack equipment in a shorter/lower rack? This would allow you to place acoustic treatments at ear level on both sides of your mix position. Here's a couple of pics of just one of several ways to approach the situation. BTW, I did use your original skp file to configure the mix position (minus the tree outside.) Aloha 8)

Hi Kendale, Thank you for your warm congrats. I am actually getting sleep. Luckily for me men aren't designed for providing sustenance for children so I am okay. Poor wife though. Gee, didn't you like my tree?? :D Onto the topic of the day.... I don't mean to sound like a whiney person, it's hard to get emotion across in the written word. Here goes. I'd love your idea of smaller size racks. I just don't have too much money to throw at this project anymore. Back to one wage and after the initial outlay splash cash is gone. I actually got a few racks for free and sold some on eBay to raise funds for the Studio system. So right now, I would not be in a position to migrate to smaller racks, I'd need at least 2 to house studio and servers. If I could find 2 exactly the same height for cheap it's an option. Although right now not really an option in the foreseeable future. I have updated my sketchup drawing with components exactly to scale. My old drawing wasn't to scale as I didn't have the furniture at the time. I have one option for moving the rack a little bit. Can't move it too much as the Cat6 cable that runs to all the rooms comes out of a wall plate behind the rack and I have given it a fair bit of slack for moving the rack around to fix things etc but not too much. Anyway, the desk on the left is height adjustable. I could raise it and slide the other desk under. Only then one desk would be a smidge higher. Thank You again. Cheers Willo

bumpy...........
Any updates? :(
HAELP!!!!! I included new to scale Sketchup plans for perusal... :)
Do you have any photos yet of this project? I know it's only been started a few months but even with a new baby, you made some kind of progress no?
Yep, there are photos on page 4 of the studio setup as is. I have not acoustically treated the room as yet. Mainly due to build budget blown for DAW hardware. So a rethink on treatment has to be made and I'm hoping for something minimalistic that whilst not providing a 100% solution, will shape things up a bit enough to put down guide tracks etc for re-mixing by a professional engineer. I'm hoping to put something in place that will provide a screen for vocals so it doesn't sound like it was recorded in a toilet. :) I intend to buy/change houses in the next 5 years. The next house will be purchased with a studio in mind, not like this one.
