OK, let's return from the hijacking. Back to studio biz...
I was considering Cedar as trim, but last night I had some white pine at the house, and some wood stain, and it looks pretty damn good. One heck of a lot cheaper than oak or cedar! Only problem w/ pine, it's a soft wood. But, I think we'll manage. :D

Southern YELLOW pine is used for flooring, I think it's pretty hard - no idea how expensive or what it would look like stained, just a thought if the softness bothers you... Steve
Here's the latest... Assembled some of the bass hangers over the weekend. I decided to skip the vinyl step, so we'll see what it does. The MDF is a mixture of 1/2" and 3/4" boards at varying widths & lengths.
Finished the one wall in the Iso booth, but not sure if I'm going to keep the lower section of cloth (actually burlap I had left over from another trap at the old place). A friend of mine says it clashes.
Here's a Q... The bass trap, after I hang the bass hangers, and place the board over the opening, should I cut a hole on the bottom, top or both?
:D
Need some kind of sketch to follow what you're planning - what kind of board, etc... Steve
Not sure if I should use 3/4" ply that I have or maybe some MDF. Here's the corner...
If you're going to use solid wood as a face, then yes you need openings preferably near corners, like top and bottom - I would "filter" these openings with heavy rockwool, line the rear/sides of the trap, and fill the rest with alternating, herringbone pattern of hangers. Sort of like this -
Keep in mind that for later 5.1 work you may get some bad reflections out of that 90 degree corner from your right rear surround speaker, so it might need some kind of gobo during 5.1 mixes... Steve
The hangers are already made. As far as the corner, I plan to eventually add a 2" machine into that corner. The wall will be treated w/ 703 & cloth in the corner. If needed, I could make a panel that would fit over the entire opening for 5.1 mixes.
Update... I've finished the corner bass trap. Hopefully picking up some drywall today to finish out the control room back wall and ceiling and maybe the soundlock.
After that, I just need to finish out the soffit walls, then it's time for the flooring, glass and doors. Oh, and HVAC of course.
I'm so close, yet so far away. :D
Oh, BTW I hope to have new pix next week.
And here's the latest update for today...I might have pictures posted before the weekend. So check back later today or tomorrow.
OK, I finally was able to round up a truck and picked up some drywall, just not as much as I wanted (especially when your getting 12 foot board).
The back control room wall is finished (except a little mud & squirtin' a little caulk in the cracks)
The second layer is done (except about a 4" strip) in the sound lock entering the CR. Oh, and ceiling.
And I've put 2 layers on the 2nd wall between the CR & live room.
So hopefully by the end of the weekend, I'll have the ceiling finished in the Control Room. I just need to hang the RC next, stuff a little more insulation, and we'll be ready to roll. :D :D :D
blah blah blah pix next week blah blah blah.
All I see is words, man. We want proof!
Nah, just kidding. ;) We can't wait to see what it looks like. :)
Film is being developed right now as we speak. It'll be ready to pick up in about 10-15 minutes. Then I'll need to scan and shrink the pix. So give me a couple hours. They'll be posted today! :D :D :D
OK, here we go. Lots of pix...
CR Back wall...
OK, and the bass hangers and bass trap in the corner...
...
...
The 2nd wall from CR to LR...
And the Iso Room...
And I haven't decided if I'm going to keep the burgandy at the bottom or not. These pix don't really do justice. The top is actually more green than blue. Give me opinions if I should change out the bottom color fabric.
Awesome pix man. Its really coming together. Is that burgandy color on the bottom fabric over the drywall? If so, what advantage would it have over paint?

There's 1 1/2" 703 behind it just like the above panels. I forgot to take a pic before covering it.
Aaron I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo jealous!
OK, I'm at a crossroads, and considering saying screw the soffits. :? :( Argh...
I suppose I could assemble the front wall to where I could disassemble at a future time if so desired. I don't know what to put in there at the moment, and it would probably be a few years down the road. I could just use stands for the time being of my nearfields.
Any thoughts, considerations, or am I just acting frustrated because I need to get this control room up and running? I'm having one of those hair pulling days!!!!!
Whats the problem besides time, money, honey doos, jobs, materials, tools frustration, and other things of little consequence? :P I mean, those things have kept me from finishing things the way I want for ONLY 20 yrs. Whats a few more? All kidding aside, I know the frustration. Some days I totally want to throw everything on ebay and get on with having a life. If there were ever a more frustrating hobby, I can't think of one. Well, maybe building a plane. Only took my dad a little short of 25 yrs  But he actually flew it TWICE before he sold it because it got too expensive to keep it in a hanger and the price of fuel. Makes me think, IF, I actually finish one day, I HOPE I can use it for more than a few sessions before I can't hear a damn thing. That is the real delima. fitZAny thoughts, considerations, or am I just acting frustrated because I need to get this control room up and running? I'm having one of those hair pulling days!!!!!
Go buy 20 8x8x16 concrete blocks, 8 2x8x16 "pavers", a pair of MoPads, and make two stacks of blocks 16x16x40" (5 blocks high, alternately stacking the blocks like bales of hay so they're tied together; put two of the pavers across the top of the stack, set the MoPads on the pavers, set the speakers on the MoPads, wire everything up, mix some stuff, then after you've "had your fix" figure out a way to add the plywood in front so it doesn't touch either the speakers or the blocks, but is flush with the front face of the JBL's -
Or, you could just do the stacks of blocks, and get $500 worth of rockwool to fill everything around and behind the speakers with, but I think you'll like soffits enough to be glad you did 'em, and you KNOW John'll say so...
