Aloha, How about if you upload your new skp file & I'll export a 2D and resize it for you. Looking forward to your new plan. :D Aloha 8)
Hi, Thanks very much, i tried the help page on sketchup but it refered to a part i dont have. Here is the new plan, hopefully i have just about nailed it this time. Thanks again

Hi, You seem to be wasting a huge amount of floor area in the drum/vocal room? Walls only need to have an angle of 6-12deg. I know you need some depth for slat resonators, but these can be tucked in the corners. I think the SAE corner design would be better suited, like stated before.

Thanks for your comments, the layout for the control room which kendal suggested will better suit my needs for the control room but i had never thought of slanting the vocal booth wall. thanks
a corner control room might work. the SAE site has an excellent corner design. I would need to play a bit more on this one but its seems with some adjustments the angles could be more correct for your space.

I like it!! :D Is it the cost that is making you steer towards CCTV rather than windows? I did some teaching at an "audio school" which had that set-up and it's horrible, you never feel connected with the band. either lay out would allow for great visuals with windows.
Hi, The CCTV seems like the easiest option, Me and my brother are going to be doing the majority of build ourselves but if the best idea is windows i'd be happy to go with that i have a couple of builders who i can get to advise on the proper instulation. Do you know if there is a post here giving you the spec for windows in a sudio? Thanks
I just thought i'd keep everyone up to date on the studio design, the final design is in place and (hopefully!) The Framing, plasterboard etc will arrive on Saturday. Thanks to anyone who has commented during the design process, A Special thanks to kendale for all his help. Cheers

After a weeks delay the plasterboard has arrived :D But no insulation yet and not enough stud work :!: thats what you get when you leave the ordering to a family member who works "in the trade" At least i can make a start on the external stud. Here's some pics cheers

Hey Guys, I started construction this week and have a thread going: http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8787 I have built the external shell but now having seen the space i am not sure i am making best use of it, If anyone has time to offer some alternatives it would be great. The only thing set is the position of the 2 doors. I have been trying various idea's in sketch up with no sucess, at the moment its like trying to put a nail in with a screwdriver. I would like to have a control room, Live room and a seperate vocal booth. In case anyone has time to have a go i have attached the sketch up file Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Cheers

Check out crazyfingers thread as I've answered his post with a design that could suit you. cheers john
Congrats on the build. Are you hoping for a lounge area too? THe vocal booth is a bit dickie, needs some angles and i don't like that the entrance is out side. I still perfer a corner studio. Was just playing with your blank canvas and came up with this. not ideal by any means but fun!

Thanks guys, i'm have a little while to think about it as i wait on the insulation arriving.
Disaster struck ( Well not complete disaster but not ideal) I went away on holiday thinking about what crazyfingers, john and lilith envy had thrown up. i came back to discover the my 2 brothers who have been helping me with the construction and my cousin thought they'd help me out by starting to build the internal space, unfortunatly the design they used was one i had done before i started to re-evaluate to space. i have enclosed the sketchup file and an image so you can see what i have now. Its to late to turn back as they have some of the walls plasterboarded, taped and sealed. I have put in some of my idea's for room treatment and am hoping some of you could find the time look at them and/or offer some idea's or alternatives. Lesson learned here if you aint using it, throw it out!!

Medboyle, By using that design looks like you're back to using CCTV. Is that really what you want to do? You've got a serious question to ask yourself about stopping where you're at and trying to salvage used building materials to re-build it the way you had it (The way John designed it with windows). If nothing else FIND OUT where there is a studio with CCTV and regular studio windows. See if you can sit in on a recording session at both places to get a "feel" for EXACTLY what CCTV will be like compared to regular studio windows. In my initial plans I was going to do the CCTV thing, but as was stated, it does seem somewhat "impersonal". My view from my control room to my vocal booth will be through two (single) 36" French Doors. I will be using cameras in my studio, but it's mainly for internet purposes. In John's diagram you have views into your other rooms. This is a big decision to make. My advice would be to go for the windows. (Another thing...what about storage space for cables, headphones etc etc. can you incorporate that into your design somewhere?...Just a thought)
Thank for looking in. Sorry i just realised my drawing dosnt have a window. I have a window looking from the control room to the live room positioned on the top half of the wall between the two monitors. I think i'll have to use a camera to the vocal booth and i am currently looking in to 2 way video intercoms so i can see them and they can see me. I'll post more details as i find them thanks Alan
how much of the construction is done?
All the rooms have the first layer of plasterboard taped and sealed. And i'm about to start the second layer.
can you post a sketchup showing whats actually been constructed?
Yeah no problem, Here's what has been built. I also have a sketch up with my idea's for room treatment thanks

here's one idea for treatment. basically slat resonators all around. clouds over mix position in CR, some clouds in live room - spaced apart - to break up the floor ceilign echos. one cloud in vox booth. back wall of CR is cloth covered absorbers- its a short CR...

Man you are fast :!: i used the L.W. Sepmeyer formula for the space to give me a bigger live room to allow for doubling up as a place to rehearse. Height 1.00 Width 1.14 Length 1.39 Any chance you could post the sketch up so i can look closely. Looks great thanks Alan
