I just moved into a home that has a detached 900 sq ft garage. I want to
use the existing shop area to build a small recording studio.
The room dimensions are 23' 3'' x 21 '3'' and the ceiling is about 7-8 feet
high. The current floor is concrete. The garage has a seperate 200amp
electric service.
The room is already drywalled, so the yellow walls in the following
drawing are new walls for the inner shell of the studio. I would like to
prevent blocking all of the windows, but if thats what needs to be done,
so be it. The windows and doors shown are already there and I don't plan
on taking them out.
Hopefully that is enough to info for you all to get started with. So that being said, please give advice for the following design concept.
Studio Design in Sellersville, PA

i forgot a few minor details.
- I'm looking to keep construction costs under a few grand.
- The music I plan to record will range from bluegrass to Wilco
type music
Specific Questions about this design:
1. is the shape and size of the control room ok?
2. is the shape and size of the tracking room ok?
Here's a better control room shape.

i had a feeling the control room was going to be my problem room. so
everthing else looks ok? room dimensions? wall relationships? utilization
of space?
Thanks for the revision John.
As soon as the plan gets a final approval of sorts from you, i'll duck on in
to the studio construction section to help answer the rest of my questions
about materials, windows, and floors.
Thanks again,
Colin
This shouldn't be to far off your suggestion John. I like the layout, and I
think it will be nearly perfect for what I need it for.
Are there any other things I should consider before moving on to planning
and getting material estimates? Room sizes? Room shapes?
Yup - that looks fine. Only one thing - use the space behind the piano for a slot resonator as I drew it on my plan.
cheers
