Kendale...thanks again I like it allot. My partner is flyng right now 2 portugal only 2morrow ill be able 2 discuss whith him. And he was the one who made de drawings. I did one (before i saw yours) and ill put it anyway.... But your desing i think will be the one 2 follow.... Thanks again Djo PS - in the boot, on the right, its supposed 2 be a curtain and inside i could store something.... just an idea....what 2 you think?

hheheh....from a ARCHICAD project 2 a PaintShop design.....things change!! Sketchup is new 2 me so it will take sometime before i present something there. I had 2 do the previous post quite quicky (women cant wait !) 8) , so i had no chance 2 stop and think about your proposal. Now, looking 2 it carefully, i can see that we made almost the same idea, only on backwards. But ill stick whith your proposal i think. My question now is only one...i hope the last at this stage. - Should i do the wall separating boot and CRoom in Bricks or in PINE ? Bricks 4 me is cheaper but after doing them i would have 2 use pine 2 make the panels 4 the isolation. So thats now my doubt. THe rest of the project is all clear as water...its a matter of starting building it. Only the ceiling is something i havent stoped 2 think yet, ill do it in a few days. Once again, thanks 4 all your attention. I will fotograph all the project building and even film it i think 2 make a small advertisement..... See ya in the next reply Djo
The past 5 days were something out of this world 4 me studiowise...I got adicted 2 this forum and im reading posts all day...so much info on my head right now. So what´s new? The thing is reading and seing the photos i realised that the majoroty of studio owners build them themselves. Here in the 3rd world that dosent happen often (not even studio building) because the HandWork here is cheap so everybody pays professional 2 do it. I was researching prices and its quite expensive 4 me.Even so i was about 2 do it. But the people i didnt show up on time (thats normal here) and 3hours later i canceled our agreement. After a day of reading and thinking, i realised that i can do allot of the things myself. Im a civil engenhiar student, starting the last year in 2 weeks time. What can be better than taking this 2 weeks 2 practive what iv learnd at skool and here in the forum?? So iv talked 2 some classmates and were building a team. One of them has 20+ years of expirience and will be leading us. The more specific parts (softfits, doors, wyndows, pluming) ill hire someone 2 do it but the majority will do it ourselfs....... Thank you all 4 encouring whith your examples... Ill be puting the photos..... I have 2 do a project 4 the final of the degree.....ill try and use this one 2 do it....that would be perfect! Using my Hobbie 2 get my degree.... Thank you all 4 partecipating....
thanks very much for your message. I agree with you and I wish you the best for your studio.
another option if you cannot move the bathroom entrance (because of the school) and the roof construction (more complex) then maybe you can swap the CR and booth. since effectively the CR and booth are the studio, its not like a lot of uncontrolled traffic or movement of instruments... with Kendales most excellent idea of putting the door into the booth as the window, maybe expand them a bit to get a full view. use drapes on the rear (or even front) doors to dampen high freq bounce during mixing). if you need to sifft mount, in the small space you could go to 45 degree angles instead of the 60 to give enough space to move around the console, otherwise just mount the monitors on stands begind the console.

Aloha, Glenn, I have to say that it amazes me how you and John both come up with these great ideas, and so quickly. Thanks! Aloha 8)
Thanks Gulffo 4 your input... Your disposal made me realise something on Kendale´s project that could turn out 2 be quite annoying...having 2 stop recording each time someone wanted 2 get in.... Is all that yellow on your desing INSOLATION ? That would kill my budjet my friend.... Your input was the missing piece of the puzzle..my arkitect friend is doing the final, i hope, proposal 2morrow based on all the ideas in here. I think is something like your disposal whith Kendale and John acoustic treatment.... Once again, i love this forum! 2 morrow building will start and ill be posting pictures. Thanks again Djo PS - in the pic, possible the solution....2 morrow ill put the final v1 design

Hello my ppl... Iv already started the construction, hope 2 send you photos 2morrow. My last question and after that iv finished my project.... Kendale design has a problem, or weak point....its the door on the back wall. My idea is the following.... Putting a panel, iqual 2 the one that makes the back door, on `top` of the door and making it, when the door is closed, a wall whth no diferences... Can it work ? Thanks Djo

Aloha, An absorber on the door would be a good idea. Since you do want it to absorb, not reflect, a cloth panel over a frame filled with insulation would work better than one faced with a reflective surface. It's important to point out that that plans sent to you were not finished, as you were informed of when you asked for them, so any treatments, revisions, shortcommings, etc. are obviously not addressed or resolved. Aloha 8)
Alohaaaaaaaaa.... Hi Kendale.....Thanks 4 the quick reply again. Yes yes, i was aware of that, no doubt... That´s the only detail that was missing 4 me 2 follow your plan. Hum.... So its an option....good!! Were still gonna work the details, i just need 2 sort out that detail because that wall is whit bricks and today or 2morrow they are building it. Waityng 4 some more opinios but almos satisfied.....THANKS KENDALE........ :D There´s also GUlffo idea putting a curtain i think....whats better ?... Djo

yes but its just a consideration - the actual amount will depend on a number of factors but rather than try to make that calculation without enough input, its easier to sketch it with the idea you probably need something... I agree with Kendale the absorber panel on the back door would be better than drapes. on the front door though you could use drapes or have a moveable panel to cover it when mixing.
some pictures....

Hi guys... 2 weeks have past since the works begin... The `dirty` work will end this weekend i hope. Its been hard. Today, i realised something that is anoying me, please advice... I was working late and realized that in the same house were my studio is, there some guys that practive CAPOEIRA, the brazilian dance/martial art. That´s allot of noise!!! I went inside the studio and o could ear everthing!! There´s no door yet and the ceiling is what you see in the picture. My question is, and im already thinking on building a LAGE (ciment ceiling) would the FALSE ROOF (wood and fibreglass) be enought 2 isolate??? Would any alternative beside doing an concrete roof work ? I already have the average price and its around 2500 USD. But i can reduce that using my classmates as labour, my friend truck and boring the material from a friends company....But it would be a cost that i wasent expecting.... Please Advise..... Djo

are the people practicing on the roof? or nearby and you can hear them? the noise might not be coming through the roof. it could be coming through the floor or an air gap. first I'd seal off the doors and windows (temporarily) and see if that makes a difference. adding a concrete ceiling will be difficult. if you can determine the path of the sound coming in then folks here can help figure out how to block it...
Hi guys... 4 those who helpd me on this project, sory 4 disapearing....I started school and its been hard. THe first phase is done, now its the Studio Building part.Hopefully in one week time ill start do do it. Ill keep you posted... THanks Djo

Olá ! (I'm portuguese by the way) Have you decided to flip the control room and place the speakers at 30º ? Andre
Hi André... I didnt quite understand what you ment ! I sticking whith the plan. THe speakers are going 2 be softfited and the angle from the "sweet spot " is 60º ... Something wrong ? Djo

Hi guys.... The eletricity is lockd and ready 2 the final instalation...The AC´s two... In the picture im filling the thiny gaps whith silicone...is it worth it or im being overzelus ? The tube you see in the picture is 4 conecting the PC (in the other room) whith the keybord, mouse and monitors in the control room  Ok, it was just a small update... Thanks Djo

looks ok to me.
Hi Djo, I'm glad to see you are moving forward. 8) I'm concerned about the soleplates of your wall frames... Here in the US we use pressure-treated lumber for soleplates (the bottom pieces of your frames). This is to help prevent moisture from the ground from damaging the frames. Over here, building codes require it. Is that not a problem over there? Also, I'm not a framing expert, but I have my doubts on the way the tops of the frames are done. Perhaps someone with more framing experience than I have can comment on that...? --Keith
Shar.... We have lack of warehouses selling building material. So the offer and variaty is very small. But now that you mentioned it..... I have that problem on the other studio...I had 2 reopen the boot double wyndow and paint spray the wood whith an antifungus product. But the other studio is in a very humid basement. So what could be the solution in this case ? What material could ISOLATE the wood frame from the floor (if its that the solution...) ? FIRST - maybe i can spray all the bottom pine of the frames, the ones in contact whith the floor, whith that ANTIFUNGUS product. SECOND - using a plastic sheet between FLOOR and WOOD THIRD - i think theres a machine called DEHUMIFIER or somehting. Would it work ? as a last result I left all the wood pilled in the garage four 2 months, when i tookd it out, there was WATER on the floor and MOISTURE on the side wall ! I thought it was because i had done/rebuild the floor and it was still drying ... Man, thants 4 that note!! Ill wayt 4 more ideas whyle trying 2 get other alternatives. I already sprayd the wood whith TIMBERFIX, a product that treates the PINE agains "termites" or something Thanks again... PS - Gulfo...i dindt understood you point! What was all good ? Using the silicone ?

Looks different to me as well. In your current plan/diagram the speakers are firing down the short length of the room. Aloha 8)

Long time no see Ken..... Thanks 4 stopping by... Your design was 4 me an very atractive alternative, i really liked it. Altought, i had 2 maintain the original project (from my arkitect) upgraded by Jhon. Im a democratic man !! 2 -1 and i lost.... BUt i have 2 say that i had a big struggle trying 2 make your proposal the winner.... Please check my other post, about soffiting the speakers.... http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8994 Thanks, i nice seing from you! Djo
