Hi,
I'm having difficulty finding information about ruby and how to use house builder.
The links to the sketchup forums on the first previous page in this thread are dead.
What forum should I be looking for?
Does this Ruby Housebuilders plug in work for the free version? YES!
If so, can someone please point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
EDIT: Never mind, with a very minimal amount of effort on my behalf, and some great resources I found everything that I needed, and am up and running.
Just use the Help that comes with Google Sketch Up 6, and the linked files. They are fantastic.

*NEWSFLASH*
SketchUp 7 just released :)
http://sketchup.google.com/product/gsu.html
Ro - it was released in november 2008. I haven't updated (It's $98 to update the pro version) as so far I haven't noticed anything new worth paying for.
haha, true but I just found out and since no-one had informed us here... oh well. cheers!
Hey there. Can't wait to build my first sand castle...
Was thinking of downloading Sketchup 7, checked system requirments out:

I have an ATI Radeon HD4850 graphics card, and was wondering if anyone has had any difficulty with this Sketchup program
while using an ATI Radeon card?
Are there any other programs of a similar nature, that can match what sketchup offers?
Any thoughts are much appreciated on this matter.
Take care,
Adrian.
I am just now getting into SketchUp, and thanks, John, for the HouseBuilder tip - that should add to the fun!
This is a fun program, and I am amazed how straight forward it is.
The Pro version allows you to export the animation as a video file.

I'm trying to upload a .skp as an attachment but the size is 41.4mb, and the compressed size is 19.7mb.
Why is it so big?
Thanks.
you have to purge all the unused objects...
goto window/Model info/Statistics and press the obvious button :)
Where can I find all the pretty little pictures like drumsets, keyboards, desks, etc so that I can add them into my sketchup sketches?
Thanks!
Compenents window, there you can "search"/download various stuff... or create ye own :)
is it true that you dont have layout features unless you pay for pro?
I'm not sure Jonas - I don't use Layout.
As I understand it the main addition in Pro is the ability to export animations as video files
and you are entitled to use the program for commerical purposes.
how do i post a sketch-up 3-d model?
I've tried twice now to download/install the free version of SketchUp 7.
Both times I got the "download successful" prompt, and the install wizard initially goes through the steps of installation, but every time I try to open the program I get the wizard asking me if I want to install, then takes me to a "repair or remove" prompt. I have installed/uninstalled, removed/redownloaded, and get the exact same results.
Am I holding my face wrong? I'm not very PC savvy, but my guts are saying there's a problem here.
Any help? Is there an additional download necessary?
Stetto - there's a good sketchup forum here:
http://forums.sketchucation.com/
ask your question there - it's independent from Google's forum.
Hi John I finded on the net plugin for sketchup maybe interesting.

Really the best option, IMO. I think it is more fun that way!or create ye own :)
I've been using this for a little while and am really liking some of the functions that it provides: http://www.1001bit.com/products/products.shtmlAnybody know where to find the housebuilder or know of something similar? I cant seem to finde anything
"Housebuilder" is a plugin for Sketchup. you can find it here.

I have my plans drawn in AutoCAD, which our draughtsmen use at work, does anyone know of a way to import these into sketchup?
yes - the AutoCad files will probably be .dwg or .dxf files.
Go to import on sketchup and select .dwg and go for it :)
Yes they're .dwg. Thanks for the help.
I'm gonna take a guess that I'm overthinking things as I'm a programmer (30+ years).
I'm not a designer... I don't think I'm an idiot... but...
It took me 4 hours just to get the Housebuilder plugin to show up and the only thing I've managed to create is getting red of the blue gal that shows up on install in the middle of the screen.
I need floor plans in about 4 weeks. I used to have a home designer package where I would just enter the dimensions of the room and drag wall, doors and furniture to their spot on the grid.
I guess you get what you pay for cause I remember the software was pretty pricey, but I used it to design my last studio. Unfortunately that was a few operating systems ago.
It seems everyone on planet earth understands Sketchup and how to use it except me. I got nothing... in other words... HELP !!!!! please....
And FWIW, I watched the videos... no help. They are pointing to tool bars and show drawing blocks... that look NOTHING like the gorgeous studio drawings I see around this site.
I'll be at the drawing table (literally) patiently awaiting a response.
It DOES take some getting used to! The learning curve is a bit steep to start with, but once you understand the basic (sometimes "quirky") concepts, it is a really powerful tool, and even gets to be intuitive after a while.
Take another look at the tutorials that you can find on Google.
What part are you getting stuck with? One key concept is "components". Don't try to just use surfaces. Each time you have a bunch of surface that belong together, such as a wall, then select them all and make them into a component. You can then drag components around as needed, copy them, scale them, rotate them, etc. Also, if you copy them and leave them linked, then changing any one of them will change all of the copies too. Useful for studs, for example: Make one stud taller, and all 87 other studs follow! Or you can make some of them "unique", so that they don't change with the rest. Etc.
You can do that with SketchUp too! There's a HUGE on-line library of objects that you can import and drag around just like that, if you don't want to build things yourself. It takes a while, but it's a great tool. But you need plans in four weeks? That's pretty tight, even for a professional designer working full-time on your project, who already knows SketchUp well! Do you already understand the principles of acoustics and studio design, or do you also have a bit of learning curve to go there too? Maybe 4 weeks is a bit optimistic: Can you postpone that? - Stuart -and drag wall, doors and furniture to their spot on the grid
