Hello there, I have been reading this forum a lot and really appreciate all ideas that are made in these threads. Now it is my turn to ask for good ideas. Here is my case : I never wanted to have different rooms as I was not needing them. Now that I play again with a band (and record it) I think that "maybe" it can help to have several rooms. I put all the files there at http://xthost.info ... You have to log in in order to the files user = stud pass = studio so here is the description of the files studnow = studio with the things (drums and mix area) that can not be split (yes drums and mix area should not be in the same room, but mix area shouldnt not be broken as I need to have all my midi and synth stuff near the mackie 24/8) studdim = studio with the dimensions in meters studempty = for your creations ;-) studprop(x) = my propositions but I am really not satisfied with them The things you need to know : - all the soundproofing is already done - the studio can be seen with real pictures at www.pulseconcept.com then go to studio74 - the white rectangle are pylons that can not be destroyed - the grey things are pipe that have been covered during the ceiling proofing (like a big "U" around the pipes) What I need : - place to mix - place to record drums - place to record the band - place to just play with the band (I dont want each person to be in a bocal during not-recording-sessions) - place to do internet (small office is needed) - place to record vocals (I plan to buy a static mic but I am afraid about noise of PC and so on ... noise from outside is ok according to the soundproofing) What I was going to do is to take the third part (on the right) and to place windows-doors between the two 2m40 "holes" and then I have a cabin. This third part now is used to stock the flight case and books and so on ... So feel free to share your plans if you think it is possible in this place (I know it is not really a big room about 55m2 in total but maybe it is possible to do it in a better way than the way I plan to do (the cabin in the third area) Thanks to all to share ideas (and when possible please use the xthost account so the files will always be there -- no problems of hosting) bye PHil
I will also try to upload the pictures here

and about what has been done about soundproofing all walls are with 80 mm rockwool and then BA10 (plaster) all ceilings and U for pipes are with 45 mm rockwool and then idikell (swiss auralex sheetblok plus) and then BA18 (fermacell ... condensed plaster) feel free to ask for more if needed thanks for every input !
What are the dimensions of the support posts. The door into the space is how big? How thick are your walls? Does the beam drop into the room or are the posts to the ceiling? IF SO, whats the dimension of the beam whats the dimension from the floor to the bottom of the beam You also need to change the size of your pics to no more than 700 pixels wide (as per the rules of this forum). Read the (DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT POSTING before you READ THIS) thread. so it makes it easier for everyone to read without having to scroll from left to right.
sorry about bad format files, I red the thread for the first-timer but did notice about the size in kb so the dimensions are noticed in the studdim file the door is 86cm (wide) x 2m14 ... the ceiling is upper for opening the door in the corner (ceiling heigth there is 2m17) This "special corner for opening door" is 96 x 88 (wide) cm. The door is made of plain MDF (wood) and covered with idikell (like sheetblok) and then fitted carpet The walls are standard one (something like 10 cm) and covered with rockwool (8 cm) and then plaster (10 mm). All dimensions that are in the studdim file are the inside and useable ones. The inside ceiling height is 2m 13,5 cm. Sorry I dont really understand your question about beams, but what I can say is that the ceiling is fixed on wood pieces that are fixed to the existing ceiling (I put some piece of material between the existing ceiling and the wood in order to stop vibrations) If the beam is what I named "Pylon" yes there are standing from bottom to ceilling and they are 24cm x 34,5. The smaller (24) is "opposite" to the door. The 34,5 is facing the mackie (studnow file) The ceiling at the pylon is 195 and the grey lines in the middle are 43 cm wide (yes more than the 24 because of the pipes (that are now totally hidden)) The other pylon (near the small part of the stud where I wanted to do the vocal booth) has the same size, but there the ceiling is 2m (and not 195cm). There the pipes are not so big so the grey lines are 32 cm wide Hope it is clear and yes I will take care of the pic wideness .. I know it is very boring to scroll from left to right. sorry ! thanks for the input
pics reformatted
Are my explanations ok or do you need a more detailled plan ?
if you could put a more detailed plan up that would be great. what you call pylon is what I called support posts what I mean by beam is what the support posts (pylons) support so the grey lines are? newly built walls?
okay I will try to make a better plan but I was thinking it should be ok to do a design. I will try also to take actual pictures so the plan will become more user friendly ! ok so the pylons support the old ceiling ... not the new one the grey lines are not walls but "coffer" like U and inside these, there are pipes. I am gonna try to post here some (old) pics of the studio so that you can understand.
Okay here we go with the pics. There are old ones but then you can see the pipes and now theses pipes are hidden by "U" coffer. The pylon with the mirrors is the one that is the closiest from the door. (I re-read me and in the post where I give you all dimensions, the beam was for the pylon ;-)

where'd you get the lighting? tres chic!
here are the new plans (took me the afternoon but now it will be more precise). The grey lines in the middle of the top view are not walls but the "U" coffer .... by the lateral view you can better understand it ... the pylons are in white okay so for now I think my "work" is done ... I still wait for some propositions cause I dont think it is possible to do that kind of perfect designing in my case, but who knows !!! for remembering I really hesitate to put some glasses in the "third part" in order to have a cabin to record voices but it will be 1,97 x 5,840 and rectangular .... not good ...

Chippy : it is normal lighting 4 x (spot ramps of 3 x 60 watts) and I put colored bulbs ... I have also a cheap "effect" lighting (you can see it on http://www.pulseconcept.com studio74 section, dont forget to click english on the home page) that makes a psyché way ;-) but we are not in the subject here ;-) thanks for the comment !
not easy to make a design in that room isn't it ?
piece of cake :) cheers john

vouah ! I was also in trouble with these two pylons and you find the way it seems ... I have to think about this seriously ! many thanks to you !!!
Can someone please convert these metric measurements (shown in John's picture above to US measurements for me? I should be able to convert them myself but I do not possess the conversions at hand. Thanks, Michael
I Thank you for your help! I am an owner of a studio here in Alaska and am an avid reader here to gather ideas to improve the acoustics and ambiance in my studio. The information presented here is both informative and very helpful. My hat is off to John and others who so gladly share their insight and experience to those of us hungry to learn more! Thanks again, Michael :D
John : do you know if some prefabricated pannels exists ... so I can "quicly" transform the studio ... I really dont want to go again with plaster and joints and paint .... Second question : I think that the blue thing are windows, isnt it ? I spend the evening looking at this plan and at my studio as it is now and it makes me dream ;-) but at the same I will have lot of small rooms and now I have a big one ... so I still hesitate a bit ... clear that now I am working again with a band and that to eq the toms your config will help ;-) thanks again
most people probably aren't aware that if you type a query into google, such as 6 inches to feet, it'll spit out a conversion. It's very smart. you can even look for specific file types and do math problems too.
Sorry to put all of you in a "war" about meters and inches  Does somebody know if there exist "walls already done" in order to "make it easy and properly" ?
