Looking good! I love to see pictures of progress. - Stuart -
Many thanks for that Stuart, just to add the drum riser layers ended up being 18mm MDF and then 18mm plywood on top of the OSB, I forgot to take photos though , but I guess thats why its so heavy :)
but I guess thats why its so heavy  :!: :thu: :) - Stuart -
on another matter Stuart my 2nd door into the tracking room is a solid fire door, would it be beneficial for me to beef it up with a layer of 19mm thick plasterboard and then a layer of 18mm MDF as I have 2 19mm plasterboards left from my studwork and some MDF left, this would make the door around 90mm thick I think?
some more pictures of progress, first my wall treatments http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zps2a02b27c.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zps5986fff6.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zps917052e4.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zps79414f08.jpg Corner treatments http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zps982bc417.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zpse4e26977.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zpsbd3bd525.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zps75bdcbfb.jpg

If you want good isolation, then yes! That would certainly help. Provided that the stud framing was built to handle the extra weight... - Stuart -
thanks for that Stuart. A little decoration today on the end wall :D http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zps22894a4b.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zps7acffd12.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zpsd5c6847e.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zps5d51d9bf.jpg This is a local artist called Scotty who happened to have done one of the kids bedroom walls that my son gives guitar lessons to, here's his website http://www.aromadesigns.co.uk if this is not allowed mods please delete
Not sure if this is ok to post, but heres a link to a short promo video that my sons band have put up today. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10 ... =2&theater The music running in the back ground is the first track they recorded by multi tracking in the control room of the studio, though at the moment no sound treatment on the walls, to say they are happy is an understatement with the tracking room getting near to completion so they can move into there in the next week or so things will get even better, A big big thank you for all the help from everyone who puts there builds on this forum and to John for this forum, but especially to Stuart, Brein and anyone else who has pitched in with help
Some more progress, air con in the tracking room http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zps2a2f0359.jpg picture of the two outside units http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zps5785154f.jpg 2nd door hung for the tracking room, acoustic firedoor rescued out of a skip a couple of jobs ago, so not perfect but free :D http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zps6bb1c5aa.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zps511ae0ad.jpg Still need to fix carpet steps, extra door stops and then layer of mdf on each door, am hoping for really good isolation here with the 2 doors and a 7" air gap between the doors
Starting to look really nice! And I LOVE that mural! - Stuart -
Many thanks Stuart for the nice comments again, Heres a couple of photos of the first practice in the new room on Monday, Ash Paul giving it some on the drums while my son Kyle and Matt the bass guitarist and I are standing next door in the control room to listen to how loud it sounds. http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zps31e4dc00.jpg Matt standing with his bass amp http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zps5b0e5ea5.jpg my sons guitar amp :D http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zps2e0cbcce.jpg Not very technical but the only sound meter I have is Decibel Pro on the iPhone, peak in the room while the boys are playing was 115db, In the control room while they were playing in the tracking room the peak I got was 58db and this is with the 2 doors on the tracking room only having some door stop and no seals yet, very happy with that, so again big thank you to Stuart, Brein and anyone else who has pitched in with comments or help, I am half way there, have to put a bit of time in around the house and my front drive as it looks like a building site :( so progress will slow up i'm afraid. Just a word to everyone building there own studios on trying to skimp or do things different to advice given by the mods, dont do it, stick to the advice given and you will end up getting there, I live on a council estate in a town in the UK with neighbours all around and am confident enough for the band to practice until 10.00pm on any day in the week, finishing at that time purely for when they leave the house to be quiet for my neighbours. :D
Oh NOOO! I just saw a huge mistake! Your SM58 is not plugged in... :) :P
while the boys are playing was 115db, In the control room while they were playing in the tracking room the peak I got was 58db and this is with the 2 doors on the tracking room only having some door stop and no seals yet,
That's nearly 60 dB! Pretty darn good, if you ask me! :) Was that dBA or dBC? Just curious... - Stuart -

C weighting as I'v seen you post about this before, that is right isn't it?

Yup! Absolutely. Which makes your achievement even more impressive: C weighting takes a lot more low frequencies into consideration, so getting nearly 60 dB of isolation with "C", is something to be really proud of. Congratulations! :) :yahoo:  :!: :thu: - Stuart -
Well all I can think is the wall between the tracking room and the control is sand/cement render both sides (except where the natural stone is) on solid 150mm concrete block with a 110mm air gap filled with insulation, then 18mm plywood, 15mm plasterboard and plaster skimmed :D All the other 3 interior walls and the ceiling are 1x15mm stirling board and 2x18mm plasterboard and a 130mm air space filled with insulation
Looks ace, A real professional standard!
Congratulation Roguejackal !! It looks great ! I can imagine the satisfaction :yahoo: ..and you did it at an incredible pace too Well done man :thu:
Many thanks for the comments but I dont know about a great pace, I think my wife might have a differant viewpoint to you :(
Hi everyone, This is actually my first time posting a question on this forum. I've been visiting for a long time now learning a lot from everyone's posts. Roguejackal you have really done a great job. The pictures looks great!!! I had a quick question for you in regards to the Drum Riser you built. What are the blue joist mounts you used under the frame? I know those are not U-Boats. Are them something similar? I can't tell from the pictures. Thanks, Evert
i got them from a job a couple of years back that the client had requested them but then changed there mind they were for a floated floor of some sort, I had planned on using them for the studio but was advised against it, I think I still may have some so il dig them out and let you know what they have written on them.
Although I mentioned previously the work would slow up I have been doing a bit more :D Started some work in the control room, http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zps9bb65599.jpg cupboard framing http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zpscbc597f5.jpg caulked up with acoustic sealant http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zps237c97db.jpg
Not sure if i had posted about this but awhile back I had some problems with the roof on the studio due to there not enough pitch for a slate tiled roof, I ended up having to strip all the slates and re cover the whole roof with tyzack roofing membrane to get water tight after experiencing water coming through a light fitting in the main entrance, thankfully after completely stripping the tyzack off and having the roof re done but with torch on felt 2 layers I am 100% water tight and the roofer who inspected and completed the job said that the osb board was fine. http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zpsd06c9579.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zpsb1a99c8d.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zpsc55cb86c.jpg certainly a weight of my mind, lets hope the sound isolation is no worse than it has been as I have a feeling it will be better than before. :D
Oh no! You made it grey! That's a terrible color acoustically! :) 8) :shot: Seriously, that looks pretty darn good! Must be good to finally have that issue solved, and be able to move on with other stuff. What's up next on the agenda? :) - Stuart -
At the risk of coming under fire from you Stuart i am going to carry on in the control room, the music heads have not took the time to work out how to use the REW software and I am the construction idiot as regards to music and computers so ,,,,, Some more pictures of progress, had ran out of acoustic caulk but managed to get a box of dark grey fire /acoustic sealant from work so cupboard framing all sealed up http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zpsd2b7e8e8.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zps5b176aa8.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zps18aa1a16.jpg Some more work on the walls http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zpsf361a6a1.jpg http://i1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa410/roguejackal/Clinic%20Recording%20Studio/null_zps5dc1d812.jpg
