I'm in the middle of a project building a private studio in my house. I try to follow all knowledge you people pass through this forum in my construction. The studio 33sqm where walls, ceiling and floor are armed cement with painted plaster on every side and foundations -unfortunately- are also visual, meaning that all those low frequencies will travel throughout the house.
My question is...is there actually any kind of material or a combination of materials that provides adequate soundproof on those annoying frequencies below 1000Hz?
Thanks in advance,
Publius
Low frequency soundproof materials???

Hi Publius.
There is an announcement at the top of the forum about what to do to assure getting as many responses as possible.
The announcement leads to this post (click here). Actually, several people, who are experts on this forum, will most likely not reply if you don't do what is written in that post. Many others who are very helpful, will most likely not reply out of respect for the moderators' wishes.
Yes there is! The best and cheapest way to do what you want, is to build a proper fully decoupled hermetically sealed two-leaf MSM system. Also known as a "room within a room". You have come to the right place to learn how to do that, but you'll need to provide a lot more information about what you are trying to do, so that we can help you. - Stuart -My question is...is there actually any kind of material or a combination of materials that provides adequate soundproof on those annoying frequencies below 1000Hz?
See the second post in this thread.
How much isolation do you need? Isoaltion is an all or nothing sort of factor. What is the ceiling?

I just read some quick math, 63 of the notes (72%) on an 88 key piano are below 1000Hz :)
Almost all of the pitches of the human voice have fundamental frequencies below 1000 Hz :0
Seems like most of the notes fall into that "annoying" frequency area :)
Thank you for your repplies.
Below 1000Hz are annoying to me but they will be to my neighbours.
Also the design I'm gonna use is a room within a room with multiple layers in the following order
Existing cement wall -->15mm MDF -->50mm (density:100kg/cubic m)rock wool -->2 to 3cm air gap -->50mm (density:150kg/m^3)rock wool -->12mm Gypsum board --> Green glue -->16mm Gypsum board.
Same goes for the ceiling as well.
I'm not so sure about the rockwool though since it is more denser than common 50kg/m^3 doesn't this actually mean that sound has a better more solid medium to travel through?
About the isolation, since I'm in a very quite suburb, as much as I can get. I figured out through literature that a band can hit about 110db. Well the existing cement wall according to every book I read provide more than 40db of transmission loss. That is why I'm trying to build an isolation of around 55db to 60db so that all in all will give more or less 75db of soundproof. Meaning a baby can sleep on the floor upstairs.
mate - until you comply with the forum rules

I have no interest in your project and no one else does either, - You could be in Timbuktu for I care.
