Day 27 - flooring and insulation all-but complete. My budget has been revised once again, but I'm starting to see light at the end of the tunnel.

Day 30ish - Fabric frames pretty much complete and waiting for delivery of the material from this place http://www.bradburyfabrics.com which I discovered on this forum. We had a trial run with the window plug in place and I'm pretty confident all the hard work is going to pay off on the isolation side as it feels very peaceful in the room with the door closed (even without the door seals fitted). My attention now is moving to the acoustics as the room has a heavy twang in the upper mid frequencies, so we'll see/hear how that changes once the corner absorbers and fabric are in situ. It's fair to say I'm getting very excited at the prospect of working in here :Dnorthwindow.jpgnorth2.jpgsouthwindow.jpgsouth2.jpg
Week 8 - I think. After a weekend covering the fabric frames for the ceiling, Carlo and I started first thing Monday figuring out how to approach fixing up the ceiling frames. After running afew tests with the pin gun, we settled on using a folded up piece of flooring underlay as a sort of muffler to avoid any grease from the 2" pins marking the fabric - which worked well. A couple of discoveries we made were: try to avoid firing the pins in at even a slight an angle as this can cause the fabric to shift, and when measuring the frames to allow for folded corners of the fabric - something I hadn't anticipated when covering the frames and which lowered the height of the ceiling panels 3mm and meant poor Carlo had to plane all the frames down. My bad.
That said, we both feel we've a done a pretty decent job (the creases in the fabric visible in the photos dont look nearly as bad in reality).

I ran a quick sound level test yesterday using my analogue db meter, here's what I got:
studio running @ 90db
directly behind closed studio door = 65db
directly behind kitchen door = 50db
room above studio = 55db
outside = music was barely audible against ambient noise
Given that my main goal when starting this build was isolation (and allowing for my limitations on wall thickness) I'm extremely happy with the results. I'm sure the acoustics will need some refining, but for now I'm amazed at the clarity of bass frequencies and stereo imaging. For me it's now about getting back to the music and earning a living, I've temp rigged my gear so I can start work again but there's a new workstation in the pipeline (via my studio buddy Carlo) to make better use of the extra space I have.
P1020991.jpgIt feels like an appropriate time to say a huge thanks to John and all the experts for this fantastic resource, there's no way I would have achieved this without their help! :D
All the best,
Patrick
Just had to drop in and say thank you for posting such an informative thread!
My space is pretty much identical to yours (aside from a couple of side windows and the door in a different place) so I was thrilled to see someone else doing pretty much exactly what I plan to do walls-wise (alas my floor will need more work than yours did).
Did you use any green glue or similar between the main plasterboard and the "beefing" panels?
Cheers!

Hi Olly, many thanks for your comments.
No green glue between the panels on the walls due to my being a tight Yorkshire bloke, although I did use it between the beef up panels on the door.
Good luck with the build! :)
