First …… The forums formalities; Location: Stockholm Sweden Objective: Constructing a mixing room. Projects Development Stage: Have to start building the room ASAP Studio use: Mixing and producing a wide range of music from pop to black metal. Budget: Hope to keep it under 1000 Euros. Background: http://www.myspace.com/useg2010 Hello everyone out there! This is my first Studio Construction post and I would like to start by informing everybody that my knowledge in this realm is to say the least; limited. Before spending a considerable amount of time trying to absorb as much information as I could, I finally got the courage to post my first post in the design forum. Although the information and assistance I got there has been helpful to the realization of this particular project I am very disappointed that many of the questions I asked the people assisting me in the design forum; still remain unanswered. The room in question is 5 meters long, 2 meters 43 centimeters wide. It is 2 meters and 46 centimeters from the ground to the ceiling. The front of the room has a window. The dimension of the windows frame is 140 centimeter high and 119 cm wide. Below the window there is a heating element, 2 electrical sockets and a telephone jack. The reason I mention this is because I plan to cover the window and the heating element inside the frame that is going to sound isolate the room (plan to turn of the element and stuff it with isolation and "barricade" it within the frame). This means that the telephone jack and the electric sockets also have to be extended. I am also going to contract an electrician to put in additional electrical sockets. The “window wall” is made out of concrete and there is a street approximately 60 meters from the room. At times I can hear the outside traffic and the neighbors living on top of me when they walk or close what I presume to be a door or closet. The left wall and the top apartment (the rooms ceiling) contain my neighbor’s apartments. The right wall goes into our living room and the floor is not a concern since there is no body living under me. I think I have a handle on most of the challenges facing this project. Now to the questions; Once I sound proof the room I wonder how I would breath inside it. My assumption is that 2 sheets of drywall glued together following the proper sound proofing practices will do something to the oxygen level within the room especially when considering that the room also is going to be acoustically treated. I have used this forums search function and inserted the world “ventilation” and have unfortunately not been able to get a clearer understanding of how the room will effect my chances for survival. Any insight by anyone in this forum concerning this particular matter would be sincerely appreciated. I think I got the answer to the ventilation/oxygen question by using the search word air. http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=13363&p=92483&hilit=flexible+air+duct#p92483 http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=13243&p=91491&hilit=flexible+air+duct#p91491 http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=14333&p=101999&hilit=flexible+air+duct#p101999 Any other comments concerning my approach in materializing this project will be warmly welcomed. I have included a preliminary skeleton drawing of the room in order to test my idea and see if it holds water. Sincerely yours, Useg Diaz-Granados

Hi, Firstly, are you going to change the ratio of your inner room? The modes are going to be evil. Second, check out some of the diagrams of the mufflers folks are using for their send and return air. Third, are you going to build a complete room inside a room? Regards, Steve
Thank you for taking the time out to assist me Steve. I will check out the muffler diagrams. I will also use the search function and try to learn as much about nodes and proper room ratios in order to improve the room’s accuracy. Any links or information that would give me a push in the right direction would be highly appreciated. Yes Steve, I plan to build a room within a room (if anyone know of a better approach for dealing with the isolation and sound treatment I would love to learn about it).The room is going to be a mixing and production room only. I am aware that the sketch I provided lacks detail so I have been working on a new one. It will not include the Flush Mount Studio monitor frame Sketchup Design until I find a way to learn more about, understand and address the node issues that you pointed out. There is also suppose to be 2x 145MM (in the front of the mixing position) Rockwool Flexibats http://guiden.rockwool.se/produkter/byggisolering/flexibatts that will be covered with cloth in the new Sketchup design (where the empty frame now is) to address the sound treatment issues. The bare wall in the new SketchUp design facing the door is suppose to contain 2 or 4 broadband panels (depending on what combats the nodes better). There will also be a 8mm perforated board (6mm intervals) in order to reflect back some of the high frequencies along the slanted walls by the listening position. They are suppose to work as a sort of slot resonators. I am also working on a design that will include a ceiling cloud with led lights mounted into them. I chose led lights because they release less heat then halogen lights and fit my personal light preferences better. The roof itself will also be sound isolated. I am going to post it along with some pics of the actual room itself in order to better illustrate the challenges my friend and I (who are assisting me in the actual construction of the room) are facing as we get started. I am aware of the humidity issues that might arrive by barricading the window and the heating element. We will use special treatment products from Rockwool In order to try to avoid these problems. http://guiden.rockwool.se/produkter/byggisolering/rocktaet-klimatmembran http://guiden.rockwool.se/produkter/byggisolering/rocktaet-aangspaerr http://guiden.rockwool.se/produkter/byggisolering/rocktaet-exp-fogband We plan to construct a special frame in order to house the window, monitor flush mount and element barricade in case we need to get to them in case of an emergency. Sincerely, Useg Diaz-Granados

After reading this post http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=13674&p=94939&hilit=metal+stud#p94939 I have decided to redo my design; This is my final revision. I have included the SketchUp picture of the final design. Note that the isolation that will go in between the steel studs as well as the roof isolation and the large hard back ceiling cloud that will be apart of the rooms design are not included. I am thankful for the information that this forum has provided; but as I already stated …..; I am disappointed in the limited interaction regarding the questions I have asked that are connected to the materialization of this particular project. I will start posting pictures of the actual construction stage. We expect it to take place sometime in September. Sincerely, Useg Diaz-granados
