Thanks Charlie B.
I have a good friend that plays in a couple of tribute bands out in Houston. He plays in Already Gone, an Eagles tribute and Abbey Rode, Beatles tribute. Check 'em out if you get a chance. The're really good!
2 of my favorite bands. I will check em out.
Thanks Riff
Riff,
I was wondering if you are planning on adding more mass to those doors?
If so, have you thought about if those hinges can take the weight?
Also, I found your friends facebook site for Already Gone and am going to try to see them in Houston this Saturday night, Mar 26th.
BTW, which one is he?

I wasn't planning on adding anything to the doors. I'm going to try them the way they are and see how it works. Fingers crossed.
My buddy's the bass player.
Those doors are solid core, right? Not hollow or foam filled?

Yep, solid core doors. All hardware will be surface mounted. I figure it'll be the weakest point in the room. Hopefully they'll b enough.
Just checking! :) Its good to have another pair of eyes looking over your shoulder, sometimes... :)

Thanks Stuart! All eyeballs appreciated.
Mini split installed!
It's very quiet, and I think it looks really cool. It's an LG Art Cool
Everything should be finished this week.
Whoo!
Just about done!
One thing that didn't work was the spring hinges on the double doors. They are nowhere near strong enough to hold the doors closed. I'll probably be getting some door closers in the near future. At least for the inner doors, maybe all four.
Also, I set up my band PA system and cranked it to check for isolation. For now I'll just say that isolation is very good. I'll post a sketch up later with the results.
Here's some pics of what I have so far. Still want a fridge, flat screen TV and who knows what else. All that will have to wait. I'll buy a little at a time. :D
Whoo hoo! I'm shakin' the walls in there!
:jammin:
Here's the readings I got when I checked the isolation. The bigger number is with the PA on. The smaller number is with the PA off with ambient noise.
You can see where the doors are weak spot. In the closet on the bottom of the page the readings are a lot higher than the storage room on the right side where there are no direct doors to the studio. The sound is very obvious in the garage but once I walked down the driveway towards the road, I couldn't hear it at all.
There was no sound at all anywhere in the backyard. This proves that a four leaf system will work IF the air gap is large enough. From inside the studio to outside I have 2 layers of 5/8" sheetrock, ~8" air gap, 2 layers of 5/8" sheetrock, BIG air gap, 1 layer of 1/2" sheetrock, 3.5" air gap, OSB layer, outside brick wall. The closet is a little over 4 feet and the storage room is right at 7 feet.
Inside the house, in the hall and room that connect to the garage, I could hear a slight bass rumble. Further into the house, I could hear no sound at all.
So far, everything is working perfectly, except the spring door hinges which is easily fixable. :D
Whoo!
Cool! Looking very nice, and clearly working well too. Don't you just love it when a plan comes together?
