Take a look at John's design for Meow Mix Studios. He is using some double doors there.

First studio project and first design...(edited and updated)

Those are not double swinging doors that meet in the centre. Those are sliding glass doors, with seals all around.
A whole different ball game.
Nothing like what you show on your plan.

So after taking some time to peruse more of this forum, getting "The Book", taking everyone's advice here, I have completely redisigned my studio. Here are the pics from the Sketchup file.
Let me know your thoughts. My biggest questions are the back wall of the control room. Good or Bad? And... my slot resonator design. I have never been good with math, so I am having a tough time figuring out my frequency. But because I've used varying widths of boards and various widths of spacing, is this going to give me a good broadband low frequency trap?
Here is the slot resonator detail.
Hey drthump. Try this page. Half way down, roughly:

Besides, I wouldn't be too concerned about exact dimensions for your slat resonator until you have the rest of the room built, and you can actually measure where your problems are! Yes, calculations are useful to get a rough idea in advance, but they won't tell you the whole truth. I think I'd wait and actually measure the room, when it is all finished except for the slats.

Thanks Stuart for link. So, in reviewing my design again I realized that I screwed up with the outer wall. I didn't decouple it in the design and then built the new walls inside of that. Well, then it dawned on me. This is in a basement. Wouldn't that be 3 leaves? Foundation, outer wall, inner wall? So I redesigned it 1 last time. And now I think I have the right design. Well at least I hope. I am sure the pros here will shoot it all full of holes. So here it is.
Let me know what you think.
Take a look at the dimensions on the Control Room. They are 8':11' 2 3/8":15' 2 1/16" or a pretty close ratio of 1:1.40:1.90. Did I do this right to get Loudens first ratio? Also The other room dimensions are on here for you guys to see. Can anybody see a problem with anything in this design
Hello? Anybody? Stuart? Ro? Lou? Andre? Anybody? John?
I need to know if this is right so I can start working then on the ceiling and HVAC. But I'm not going there until I am sure that everything else is in order first. Also then I can start figuring out some real costs for construction.
Bryon
Hey Bryon. Not ignoring you! Sorry, hadn't seen your previous post.
Can you post the SketchUp model somewhere, so folks can download it? It would be easier like that. I see something that might or might not be an issue, but I can't see it from an another angle to be sure.

PS. It's looking pretty good! I wish I had that much space!
I can try. The file is pretty big at just shy of 40mb. Is there a free host site? I'm not exactly sure how to do it.
When it comes to computadoras, yo soy un gringo estupido!
Ok, after purging every material that wasn't being used in my model I was able to bring the file down to 35MB and with it zipped it's 19MB. It takes a bit to load but it works.

Have fun everyone!
Downloaded the beast! Trashed all of the decorations, purged the file, and got it down to 9 MB. Still heavy, but a little more workable! Man, do you love detail, or what! :)
Anyway, I just PM'd you with the comment on the tiny room on the corner. Did you see that? It might be worthwhile putting that same issue out here publicly, for others comment on!

Hey Stu thanks!
I PM'd you back with the wordy response.
Absolutely gotta love detail! Especially when doing something like this! I know that forgetting one thing can be the difference between building an awesome room or a very expensive nightmare. Although, I know that there are a lot of things I didn't put into the "beast" because it just got to be to big to work with. I actually wanted to show hangers in the back traps in the CR and also the treatments in that "tiny room", otherwise known as the vocal booth.
Yes, that "tiny room" in the corner, which is actually 10'6" x 4' 1" at the midpoints of the room, would be my vocal booth. Nice and cozy! And, treated heavily to be as dead as possible. I actually prefer a small dead vocal booth in order to capture the purest driest voice with zero coloring from the room, and adding any effects and/or reverb to it after the fact. I would also use it as an amp room.
Any thoughts anyone?
Bryon
Stuart, I think I might have misunderstood you. If you were talking about that real tiny little room in the lower right hand corner of this picture, that is the sump pump. I didnt add the drywall because the file was getting to be too big and it wasn't a real relevant room in the design. That would be drywalled on the other two walls as well. Double layer is what I am going with throughout. i need to keep that room isolated from everything as well so that I don't get sump pump bleed through the mics.
Bryon
Well I am guessing that because no one has any additional comments that everything here looks good. Am I correct? Let me know.
Bro,
I tried to download your skp file but I have version 6.1, and yours was created in version 7. Anyways, just wanted to say whats up. I'm a drummer and I've got a studio project in Northlake (near Bensenville/Elmhurst area) so it's cool to see someone else on here that's located pretty close to me. I've got a thread on this site too. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4131 Haven't really posted much on there for a while but the project is still alive. Anyway. Enough about me. If I'm able to offer any advice I will but I'm still learning a lot too. Feel free to browse my thread for anything you might find useful to your situation. Love your drawings by the way. Sucks that I can't view the full version.
