Wow, great stuff. Keep up the progress.... AND the reports and photos!
How many people did it take to move that thing! Is that 3/4" or 1" stock that you used for the door seal stops?
Thanks for the kind words..I plan to do a little at a time, while researching this site! What can I write other than fantastic! Andre
Thanks again...finally figured out how to size and crop my photos to eliminate the side scrolling issue!!! Brick guy is laying bricks today while I slave over a hot chemical plant. I sure hope the bricks match. My house is 18 years old, and of course they don't make those bricks anymore...we'll see!Wow, great stuff. Keep up the progress.... AND the reports and photos!
Well me and my buddy George "eased" it onto a piano dolly to roll it out to my truck. I have a piano dolly at home my grader box sits on. I blocked up the grader box with wood blocks to free up the dolly so I could move them by myself at home. I can lift one end by myself but like my buddy Mac says...."Ya really gotta want it"!!! We milled those door seal stops down to 3/4" or 5/8" I think. George had that stuff in odd sizes as scrap material at his shop. We just kept digging through the stuff until we had enough material to make stops for 2 doors. George is THE MAN!How many people did it take to move that thing! Your first look at my design for a "SOUND Proof" Window.
Looking good..those guys sure are glad the trees are there...97 F, with about 95% humidity here in the south..whew!!
Close up of my sound proof window design...final pics tomorrow!
I'm still working on the natural lighting aspect of the design, but the sound attenuation aspects are excellent!!!!
Fireplace patch work...The old eave had to be removed, revealing some funky mortar work. The brick guy dressed it up quite nicely. Vinyl siding will finish this out fine, plus, and most importantly...NO PAINTING!
I do not remember what kind of sound levels outside of this structure you will be dealing with...but me, I would consider the porch an extension of my interior ceiling. I realize you may be wondering what I am smoking, but as you build this addition/recording room, thinking about how your air, or rather, how easily sound can get into your attic and right over your head, may be something to think about, if only for a moment.
Sure you want air...it needs it, but vinyl is thin.
Thanks for looking out for me on this!!! My plan is to insulate and cover (w/2 layers gyp board) the bottom side of the rafters of the room itself. The room rafters run down to the top plate of the perimeter walls, all the way around the room. That will give me a 3 leaf system on the roof, but Rod says don't sweat it in this application. My Live Room, Control Room, and Vocal booth will each have indepentant wall/ceiling framing. The 5th picture on page 2 of this thread shows the room rafters I'm talking about. I see rafters...and I see joists :) Typical addition.
But if your comfortable with it...I'm tickled.
Nice work JK!
I'm currently in the same stage as you are, bricking them windows closed.
(currently the Floyd's on the radio with.... Another brick in the wall! now, ain't that funny!)
Once I get the outer "leaf" of my isolation done in the attic, I'll take some pics. My inner walls and ceiling joists are not framed yet. Then I hope you will be comfortable too!! Again, thanks for watching out for me.I see rafters...and I see joists :) Typical addition. But if your comfortable with it...I'm tickled.
That is funny!!! I tend to get in a hurry to finish most projects. I'm determined to not do that on this project. I'd be happy to be finished around the first of the year.Nice work JK! I'm just here for the beer boss.Once I get the outer "leaf" of my isolation done in the attic, I'll take some pics. My inner walls and ceiling joists are not framed yet. Then I hope you will be comfortable too!! Again, thanks for watching out for me.
+1 Boss :)
Yes sir. Actually I am thinking I know where your going with your studio overhead. Stop me if I start getting on your nerves, but I have seen and have installed 1/2" osb or the like in the underside of a porch like what you have for two reasons. A nice flat finish for the vinyl and to minimize noise on those nights when the fire pit is going, the pig is in the ground and the wet tee shirt contest us about to begin. From my experience, that is when the crowd is usually the loudest!!! Nice looking brick work, btw.Once I get the outer "leaf" of my isolation done in the attic, I'll take some pics. NO WAY you're on my nerves!! I'm glad someone's watching and checking me, it makes me think twice!!! Where are you in Alabama? I have a friend, Reggie Duncan, who has a small studio in McComb, MS. He uses a studio in Alabama, I think, to make music tracks for some of his artists. He brings all the tracks home, does the music mix, then tracks the vocals. He is a Master of the steel guitar as well. He records steel tracks for studios all over the country.Stop me if I start getting on your nerves....
Still pecking away at my build. Smashed my left pointer finger Saturday. The entire nail had to be removed, and broke the bone at the tip. Makes working interesting!
Ouch! Been there, done that! I have more injuries from my build than I have had in the last 10-15 years. Good luck, and heal quickly!Still pecking away at my build. Smashed my left pointer finger Saturday. The entire nail had to be removed, and broke the bone at the tip. Makes working interesting!
I hope that's the last time at least on this project! Had a good day Saturday. When I demo'd the old Vinyl Soffit off my house, where the addition was going, I saved it in a shed. I pulled it out Saturday, and hit it with my special "Vinyl Siding" cleaning concoction! 1 Gallon Bleach 1 Cup Simple Green 1 Gallon Water Cleaned up that 17 year old perferated vinyl soffit like new. My wife asked me to finish out the soffit on the front side of the house, so of course I did! Picture forth coming!Ouch! Been there, done that! Gustov Aftermath....
I am blessed!! Compared to a host of other people in this region! It amazes me that once the levee's DIDN"T fail, the media was not interested in Louisiana! Gustov was the worst storm in recorded history in a huge section of the state. We have folks that will be without power for several more weeks, with temps in the mid 90's, and about 80% humidity, not to mention the bugs and pissed off snakes! We had a guy in my unit bit by a water snake 2 nights ago!! The snake had crawled up into the unit, and when he walked by, it bit him! Anyway, I'll post a few pics of my damage. Lots of cleanup work to do, along with roof work, but overall, I was spared the worst. A lady was sleeping during the storm about 2 miles from my house when a tree came through the roof and killed her in her bed....I am blessed!
