Low Ceiling

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Low Ceiling

Post by Vox »

Hi, I'm brand new here on this forum. the reason I've just registered is that I'm planning to build a studio. The room where I'm planning to build is about 100 square meters but It's only 2.40 meters high.

My question: Is this low ceiling a problem for proper recording (al kinds of instruments and vocals) and iff not, what's the impact going to be on my recordings? The room is about 16m by 7m.

I appologise for my poor english writing and if nessecairy for my question :D

Your room:
= 16m x 7m x 2.4m = 269 m^3
= 52.5' x 22' x 7.9' = 9125 ft^3

Certainly that's more volume than most people here.

Axial modal frequencies (hz): 10, 21, 24, 32, 43, 49, 50, 64, 71, 73, 75, 85, 96, 98, 107, 118, 123, 129

Room Ratios (H, W, L): 1 - 2.9 - 6.6
(do not fit with Bolt, EBU nor IEC recommendations)

Will you be building more than one room in this space ?
Where is your locatoin (Country, City)?

I was planning to devide the room in 2. A place to sit down and work on the recordings and a place to set up the instrument or mics. I'm not sure yet how I'm going to devide it. I also was planning to plaster the walls and then put some kind of carpet on them.

Vox, could you please update your profile to include your location? Thanks -

Sounds like you need to look around the various designs on the Studio Design forum for some ideas - although low ceilings aren't ideal, they are still doable - look around a bit, see what might work for you... Steve
