It's almost a 20' x 20' cheers john
Is that a good thing? by the reply's I am getting a bit concerned Warren
Warren, That looks like enough space. Why not search through the designs threads and look at what others have designed. See what you like, then rough out a design for what your looking for. Plenty of folks here will try and help tweak it for you. And..sorry to be the one to point this out but its spelled Garage. Good luck Ron
Wow! John if you are refering to the last drawing with very minor adj it would be more than I ever hoped for I will incorporate it into my layout and get back to you with more ? about construction materials ie. dual pane windows placement etc Thank you all so much :D Warren
I messed around a little using Micrograpx Designer and was wondering if this would still work (before I screw it up too much) with glass sliders etc. also as far as equip room I figure it would be simpler to just make an iso rack for amps MX2424's, DAW's and any other noisy gear Thanks again

Here is what he came up with: Bryan Giles This is linked from my server till they clean up the pics in their server. <img src = "http://www.patden.com/pd/pictureclipping.gif" / src>
In the layout John suggested at the rear of the control room there was a large bass trap, my problem is, that space on the other side of the wall is required for an access to the walkway entering the house. Does anyone notice any reflection issues because of angles of walls, glass sliders that enter the control room or between control room and live room. these widows are 4' by 7.5' Might I also say just what a blessing it is to have a forum like this for those of us that are completly clueless ( ok I'm the only one) anyway Thank you all Warren
Warren - this is how a corner control room would fit in your space - everything is to scale , i.e. 8ft wide drum kit, 6' wide couch etc. cheers JOhn

Every time I check this forum my studio just gets better! Thanks John since the studio is inside a garage what walls would have to be double? Again THANKS :D :D :D Warren
Well the only one I drew as double was the one with the double glass doors. You really don't have the space for double wall throughout IMO - a single wall with RC on one side would be adequate. cheers john
HI John: I still have a couple of questions: I have 3 each dual pane glass panels 4' x 7.5' for the window between studio and control room my concern is I believe that the glass in the panels is of the same thickness, if this is not an issue to be concerned over would placeing the two most outter panels paralell and the third panel between them at an angle be OK or overkill. regarding the walls: 5/8 drywall (doubled) on each side of wall using steel studs staggered 24' on center w fiberglass insulation between, inner & outer portions of wall floted atop of 1/8" rubber If this senerio is to thick what about the studs mounted sidways to lessen space between inner and outer parts of the wall. Thanks Warren :?
"would placeing the two most outter panels paralell and the third panel between them at an angle be OK or overkill" - You need to check this thread out - same fundamentals apply to glass, as in 2 panels ONLY, one air space. The thread might also help with your decisions on wall construction - http://johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=598 The "leaves" referred to, include ALL barriers between ANY two areas you want isolated, whether they are room-to-room or room-to-outside, whether the air space is 2 INCHES or 2 YARDS... Steve
Can two of the dual pane glass panels 4' x 7.5' for the window between studio and control room be used, one angled or have I accquried trash since the panels are of the same thickness, and dual pane? regarding the walls: 5/8 drywall > 1/2 drywall> stagered steel studs W/insulation > 5/8 drywall> 3/8 drywall, inner & outer portions of wall floted atop of 1/8" rubber this will work if I am reading your thread correctly? Thanks Again and again & Warren
:D Very gald to see you back: Since your outage I have accquired the remaining garage space Knightfly was helping with construction techniques on another site but I wanted to run this new design by you, Knightfly also suggested that I streach out the drawing you did, but when I did it appeared a bit wierd anyway, can you go over this drawing and make a suggestion please and is that vox booth going to be OK? Knightfly thank you so much for all your insight I may have a ? or ?? later about the ceiling of the studio but for know I need the design to send to the contractors Thanks again hope your not freezing Warren

welcome back Warren - here we go for another year :):) so you've got the whole space - cool - I assume the garage is 31 x 20 and you've left 3ft? for the rolla doors - but why the space at each end - can't you go the full width?? - also where are the door/s to the house?? cheers john
 Well I could but by the new drawing you can see that the space I intend to use is lower, and on a seperate slab than the ones that are 4" higher. I thought it might be more hassle then it was worth to try to make it work, (Ive been wrong before) and that the extra air space might give me more isolation from the outside world. Can think of better use for the space on the lower floor, than the drawing I have submitted? Thanks John  Glad to see a back Warren

Warren - your layout is fine - just the geometry of the control room needs attention. cheers john

or you could do something like this so you don't have to go through the studio to get to the control room. cheers john

:D Great Design John I would like too use it. I have just a few questions (1) Are the doors double that enter the various rooms. (2) What exactly are the dimensions of the rooms and wall angles. (3) The brownish colored areas, is that insulation covered with cloth that is framed in or is it drywalled in to get the desired geometry Alot of questions I kno but I am submitting the plans to the county for a permit then to the contractors and soon I can get back to work, Lord willing John, Steve and Giles Thank you all so much for your help All the best in this year to come. Warren
:D My Design has been submitted to the county for approval. Many thanks for all your help! I was also wondering about hanging bass absorption panels in the areas outside the inner rooms, where there is, on the far ends a 2' X 8' X 20'6" space, at the ends of unused hallway area 3'X 8' x 10' space, and also in the attic above. Would hanging these panels be a help, hassle or hindrance? I had read in a past post about the formulas of the calculators used to determine the proper size of panel to the frequency to be reduced where wrong on some sites. Does anyone know the write one to use?
