Hi All,
I'm designing the wall structure for my basement studio/jam room.

I've been drawing on paper to this point to estimate materials and to figure out how I'm going to work. I paid someone to draw up key portions of detail for the town, but I'd like to do more work with sketchup to contribute here and to communicate with my brothers' who are helping me with the framing, doors, windows etc...
I'm totally new to the program and have found the sketcup forum thin on information. I'm trying to diagram the frame of the interior walls to the room and with starting from scratch, I have spent hours struggling with this.
Can anyone point a better resource or way of figuring this out? I don't care if it's as simple as a template, where framing object are already in place that I can manipulate, but I'm just looking for something to grab on to. I feel like I have an unstable starting point right now. It's fairly frustrating

one of the useful tools is the house builder scripts from the Ruby Script depot. http://www.crai.archi.fr/RubyLibraryDep ... uilder.zip this set of tools (I recommend the extension scripts as well) allows you to rapidly draw up framing, roofs, etc. with the caveat that once you do that, you still have to adjust bits to get them actually correct, and it has its idiosyncrasies...
the best approach to SU is to have a strategy. one that works for me (most times) is to carefully layout the floorplan of the existing space, then group and lock it. then add in a floor plan for the design, group and lock that. then you can begin to create the 3D using scripted tools or simply using the push-pull tool. complex things like multiple-angled soffits with windows and so on are hard to model no matter what.
Glenn,
Much thanks! I've just gone through that garage script and feel pretty good about things. I have just built a couple of wall templates with the specs I have for the walls I am dealing with.
One thing that wasn't intuitive, but I found with a simple enough search: the plugins had to be moved to the c:\progra~1\Google\Google SketchUp 6\plugins directory before I could see the menu item.
-- I kept thinking that the IMPORT item off of the file menu might have an extension for these RB class files, but perhaps this can be done elsewhere.
At any rate, once I had the plugin set, I am able to work with this example and again: thanks.
