Window glazing tape?

I am picking up the glazing tape for my windows this afternoon, but all of a sudden I am a bit confused as to how to install it correctly (is anyone surprised???). From reading in Rod's book, I assumed that I put the tape directly on the window edges (both sides). I was not sure if it was also supposed to go on the bottom edge of the glass, but I was guessing that it was not... Well, now I have just re-read Dynamike's thread about how he installed his window, and he put the glazing tape on the stops rather than on the window itself. I suppose the ultimate result is the same, but it seems (in my mind) that it would be easier and neater to apply the glazing tape directly to the window. Dynamike talks about how sticky this stuff is, and maybe that is why he elected to put it on the stops instead of the windows. Can any of the experts give me any last-minute advise about doing the actual installation of the glass into the frame? The windows are due to arrive sometime the last week of November, and I am trying to make sure that I have everything that I need. In case anyone is interested, here is Dynamike's thread where he talks about installing the window (it is about half-way down on page 6): http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8205&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=75 And here is a quote from that thread about the gazing tape:
next i took the window back down, applied the 1/8" black glazing tape (STICKY!!!!) to the entire edge of the 1x8. making sure there were no gaps in the corners!!! then i lifted the glass (alone! heavy and scary!) i placed it almost horizontally on the bottom frame and tilted it up being careful not to hit into the glazing tape yet. before the full tilt up, i made sure it was on the shims, then pressed that baby into place. i was so nervous.. . .but it ended nicely next i silicone caulked along the top of the glass and an inch down each side. then i put glazing tape on my precut top outer stop. the stops are 1x2's. i put the top stop in, pressed it hard against the glass and nail gunned it in. continued the same process with the bottom stop, and then onto the left and right.
Thanks!
DH - it's generally easier to put it on the fixed stop before setting the glass then set the glass - caulk the edges and then install tape to the window and fix the stop tight to that. But that's only a preference - mine in fact - and there isn't a hard and fast rule somewhere sayinbg that this is the sequence that MUST be taken. If you want to install directly to the glass on both faces before pitching that glass - and it works well for you - then go for it. As long as you cover the required sequences (tape - caulk - tape) then the rest is just personality. Rod
