hello all.
for a basement studio. the walls, i am planning on using the existing stud framing, insulation, hat channel w/ iso clip, 2 - 5/8 drywall with green glue.
what insulation should be used r13 or r19, paper or not? for that matter in the discribed wall assembly, is there anything that really is not adding much more STC. do you need the green glue with a sound iso clip or would the green glue function better on a budget. i guess i am looking for the best assembly on a budget. i don't think i can afford the green glue and the clips.

simple question. the ego on this site..........
I always go by the "more is better" philosophy, but I do know this: Do not stuff the insulation into a space where it does not fit. By compressing it too much, you will lose a bit of efficiency. If you walls are made from 2x6 studs, the R-19 fits better, if they are 2x4, the R-13 fits better. Use what fits is probably the best recommendation I can give. If you try to stuff R-19 into a 2x4 space, you might be stuffing a bit much. Regarding paper, I went with paper, but in retrospect, I have heard that I might have been better (and cheaper) not to use the paper-faced type. If you do use paper-faced insulation, make sure that the paper side is against a surface, such as drywall.what insulation should be used r13 or r19, paper or not? for that matter in the discribed wall assembly, is there anything that really is not adding much more STC.
Ouch! This is a tough one! :) Obviously, each product has a function, and both would be preferable. I would think that it partly depends on the function you intend and the design of your room. Sound proofing would probably be helped most by the clips, especially if this is a one-room place where you are trying to disturb the outside world. I am not sure if I am qualified to answer this question (actually, I am *sure* that I am not!), so I will let the experts chime in here. Can you give us a bit more detail on your build? How many rooms, what you are trying to accomplish? Will you be recording bands with drums, or just vocals, etc. Best of luck!do you need the green glue with a sound iso clip or would the green glue function better on a budget. i guess i am looking for the best assembly on a budget. i don't think i can afford the green glue and the clips.
it Wolffies thread starts here...
The trick is, Wolffie, to stay in the same place. Ask questions in the same place as your build thread was started.
It's not ego of the members. It's too difficult to keep up with a user when they are bouncing around from side to side.
If all the information were put into one thread, everything Kendale posted, everything Rod posted, everything Glenn posted and sefveral others who have given awesum information, you would have all the information to start you build.
But after 26+/- days you find yourself frozen in place, afraid to move forward and taking your frustrations out on a group of people that "have a life" and do this work as a service to folks like you and I.
The ego, to me, is an individual that thinks so highly of his own situation and himself, that none of the rules apply to him.
If you could stay in one place...and acquire patience, read your book, study all the answers for the questions you ask, and make a hole in something and take a picture of it, you may be able to help ALL of us to get a better understanding of what your own personal space is about.
Amen to that Brien!
Wolffie - Be cool, be patient, people will reply, but please give them as much help as you can - it'll cost you nothing other than time and carefull thought my friend.
There are, to my knowledge over the past nine months at least, no real egos to concern yourself with here, honestly.
Kind regards, and good luck with your project,
Lou. 8)
