Dude did you take Cujo the dog on the Honeymoon? He looked ready for it!
Of course I took him :P
I am putting 3 wall boxes/panels in the live room, what inputs should be in them?
I was thinking 10-12 Mic,4-6 instument and 4 headphone.
Thanks,
Clifford.
Aloha,
It's there...under "Some links to custom panels... " http://www.middleatlantic.com/rackac/ucp/custom.htm http://www.whirlwindusa.com/ http://www.rcicustom.com/ http://cablefactory.com/ Aloha 8)sorry,I meant wall boxes.
another great site-
http://www.sigt.com/
And some great advise- (quote)
"Well, you need to think very carefully through what your needs are now, and what you expect they might be in future, and then add more than that, because somehow there's never enough of anything.
How many instruments will you ever be recording at one time? How many mics? How many players needing headphones? Are the "4 headphone" outputs cue lines for downstream boxes (Furman, etc.) or are they to plug phones directly into? Will you ever be wanting to have an amp cab in the studio whilst the head is in the CR, thereby necessitating a hi-Q spkr line or 2? Will you ever need special lines for running "odd" temporary equipment, such as a drum throne thumper? Will you ever want speaker playback into the studio rather than headphones? Any extra tie-lines you can think of? Do you expect the Nassau Symphony at any point, with 100 chairs full of out-of-tune screeching?
There's a lot to imagine here."
This is what I'm figuring;
4 wall boxes/panels
each having-
16 x Mic
2 x hi-Q (for amp heads in CR)
2 x 1/4" instrument (for guitars in CR to amps in live room)
2 x pairs L/R input (keyboards)
1 x cat 3 or better Ethernet/RJ-45 connectors (headphones)furman HDS-6/HR-6.
1 x pair 1/4" L/R playback monitors.
? x MIDI
? x firewire.
any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks,
Clifford.
i'd add 8 midi and 8 keyboard lines. this gives you 4 stereo pairs and a send-receive for 4 midi keyboards. i'd go with CAT 6 on the network wires since that supports gigabit speeds and i'd use 2 of those per panel since today you're thinking just the Furman's but somebody somewhere will want another one... use wireless for providing folks with network access... i'd add 2 firewire and 2 USB lines as well.
Thankyou Glenn. :D

Hey Clifford,
So you have a wall plate that goes right into a window or door area in the picture just up above.
What is that, if you don't mind?
I think what you are seeing is my hurricane shutters on a window.
That wall in there is coming down as soon as we get another wall inside installed. I put the shutters on to stop the window from getting broken.
My bad, second picture up shows what looks to be a bottom plate w/ conduit coming up from the slab headed for a big opening?
That opening.;)
That hole will be closed in . We left it open so we can take the other wall down and not have to tote the debris through the house. It will be a solid wall, no door, no window.
Should my electical sockets be mounted on the wall or in the wall?
These are the panel boxes that I ordered, The second long one down and the smaller one to the left.

16Mic - 12inst - 2 L/R M/F XLR - 4cat5 ethernet - 2firewire - MIDI in/out/thru + the long panel.if you can mount the boxes externally it will be less stuff to seal.
Thanks Glen,
The box's are surface mount, I am also going to surface mount the electrical box's. Would be a shame to cut a bunch of holes in my wall.
Great build Natas - totally love the way you've extended to pitch of the roof on up and back down to accommodate the new space. - It's gonna look great when it's done mate.
Also many thanks for the panels link - I love Glenn's idea of the USB and Firewire 'tie-lines' as well, someone's bound to want it, and you (and I), will have it! :D :D
Keep 'em coming buddy - looking great.
Regards,
Lou. 8)
Thanks Lou,
I got alot of great advice from alot of great people, I hope they keep it coming, I would have made alot of mistakes, costly mistakes without the help of these folks. :D
So, the roof is finished and now begins the interior. I think the first thing that we are going to do is construct the new wall that will seperate the studio from my dinning room. This wall will have the entrance door. I am planning 2 solid core wooden doors sealed real well mounted back to back with acoustic foam on the insides of both.
Clifford.
How high should I mount my wall boxes?
I figure about 35".
