Hello all, My name is Clifford, I am in nassau Bahamas.
I have been recording music and playing guitar for a while and it has turned into a passion. I have played in a few bands and written my own stuff and recorded it with so so results. I have been recording in my front room that I have covered in Auralex foam and called it a studio.
I have decided to jump in deeper by learning as much as I can ,purchasing propper equipment and spending the time to learn how to use it. And to finally build a propper home studio. I am presently in the process of construction and making all sorts of decisions. I need help.
I will post pictures that will bring you up to date and if there is anything that I could improve or I am doing wrong please let me know.
I have been reading this site for a while and have gained alot of knowlege.
Thanks,
Clifford.

This is the original sketch that I had in mind. Please note that the narratives are not correct except for the dimentions. Also I am not doing a drum ISO any more.
Thanks

All the walls will be concrete block except the one with the entrance door.I plan on covering all the walls and ceiling with 2 layers of sheetrock and insulating with Ultratouch and Owens 703.
Here I am with the foundations dug. The wall behind me will be coming down.

Here is another shot of the work. The floor will be 4" of poured concrete over 5" of fill over another 4" of concrete. Do you think I still need to float the floor if I float the drums and other amps?

Here is the floor poured. I am running all the electrical conduits under the floor. All audio I will run over head in 4" conduits.

Thia is another sketch. However I was told that I would be better off with a rectangle control room.

My main goal is to have a really good sounding space with as much isolation from the rest of the house.I also want enough space in the live area that I will be able to set up a 4-5 piece band and have a nice jam or even record.
Phew!
Thanks.
Hey Clifford, gotta question for ya.
What are the requirements for erecting a block structure in respect to hurricane force winds in Nassau?
I didn't see any rebar or any thing that tied this building together from the footer up to the top of the wall...doesn't warrant concern as it applies to the insured home owner?
It all looks good to me but even as far away as I am from Dade county Florida, they still set the standard for how we can or cannot build as it relates to hurricane force wind.
I recognize that the Bahamas are fully independent and have your own standards and acceptable building practices it is just an area of interest to me personally.
Forward upward onward together,
Brien
The rebar went in today, they also poured the beltcourse I will post pics soon.
As for requirements, its pretty tough. We have to submit plans to the government for approval. Our building code are pretty stiff.
I got ya. The left/right hand sides of the back, where the five pieces of rebar per side protrude, are the ends of the beltcourse.
I was curious, never saw a keyway or anything so I wondered what kept the walls in place.
Thanks Natas,
Brien
Hai Natas, welcome and thanx for sharing!
Uhrm, do I see hollowcore concrete blocks? Did you plan to fill them with sand or anything?
80% is filled with concrete, the rest is filled with sand/fill.
Thanks,
Clifford.
good thinking, just checking. Keep them pix comming :)
and here's a snapshot of a possible solution for the room layouts...
The second sketch makes more sense to me, I love the open live area!
The CR looks perfect with a good size ISO.
Thanks again gulfo :)
BTW , I am going on vacation Saturday for 2 weeks and getting married  so I wont be posting till I get back, the construction will continue whilst I'm gone so I should have some good progress pics when I get back. See ya.
Thanks,
Clifford.

Later.its an SU6 style applied to the sketch to make it, mmm, sketchy-er and then exported as a jpeg as normal. this one i think is called "Graphite Dust™" by Ross Macintosh @ www.formfonts.com.Is that a "new" export feature of sketchup? looks funny
Sweet!
I was curious about the block dying into the house but it gets poured as part of the beltcourse...now that is structurally sound!
When someone lives in the Bahamas and they go on vacation....where do they go:)?
I live in Nassau,my folks have a house on Elbow cay Abaco "Hope Town".
Its on the water and about 2 minutes from the beach, really nice. The folks rent it to tourist during the season.
go to www.elbowcayproperties.com and check out the Cash House.Thats where I will be :D
Anyone know where I can buy some quality wall panels?
I will need 8-10 Mic,a few instument and headphone inputs.
Thanks,
Clifford.
