Yikes. :) You just said a mouth full...
OK, now that I've probably already screwed the pooch in my scenario... if you haven't done so yet...here's the latest pix of the CR floating floor... http://johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic ... &start=147
It extends over the entire control room area.
Here's the 'ole pic again w/ the intention or thought of what I am doing...
Ready to start construction. Any last minute advise?

Yeah, looks fine - Now, what about the back wall? Is the rear purple thing a producer's desk/4 bay rack? Is the area behind it raised, with or without couch? Real wall absorbed? How?
8) See, I really DO know just enough to be dangerous (at least to myself) ...
The rear purple thing is the 4 bay equipment rack. No room for a couch.. Oh well, it'll help keep the clutter of people out... :) On the rear wall, I'd like to build or install a broadband absorber. That's the intent anyway. Now, what about the back wall? Is the rear purple thing a producer's desk/4 bay rack? Is the area behind it raised, with or without couch? Real wall absorbed? How?
hey all,
Just my 2 cents. But not having a couch in the back of the room is a big big big problem. In fifteen years of engineering in small, medium, and large rooms, with varying degree of poor, good, and excellent acoustics, with poor to excellent gear, etc. etc. basically working in every environment out there, The NUMBER ONE problem and distraction is having to pull chairs in from the lounge to seat people. Because when you do that there is only one place to put them..... Next to you at the console. around you, behind you, in front of you. Basically they are in your space.
If you plan on doing any commercial sessions, and not just recording yourself on keyboard or guitar you will have this problem. Then, if you do not have enough space you get people leaning on your walls. if they lean on a 703/fabric wall, now you have an indent in that wall that you have to restretch.
i might be off here, I just looked over the 3d drawing and the 2d from before and still do not see where you would seat people without a couch???
Just me weebit lil' 2 cents :D

If I have the space for one, I will. But according to the design and layout and space...the measurements show there is isn't ample space for one. However, I can put some highback stools or perhaps on the sides, some nice cushy chairs.
I know, I'd love to have a couch, but right now, it appears to be cramped for space as it is. And don't have a place to put one. And at the moment, it's more of a private studio, but it will be for recording clients.
If nothing else, I may be able to build a bench into the wall, worst case scenario. I'll find a way, and it's not that I haven't thought about it. I think about it daily everytime I look at the room.
I'll manage to come up w/ an idea. I'm still in the design stage of the final touches so to speak.
Thanks,
Aaron
As it stands right now, how far is it between the edge of the mix desk and the side of the rack bay facing the desk? Steve
Not enough... Depends on the console I finally end up with, but come to think of it, as I look at autocad, and have a tape measure in my hand, I may have F#%$&! up. :(
Too late now, I'm stuck w/ it. So I'll make do... Live and Learn!
I think I'll be ok. Just have to do some creative, ummmm.... standing :D
It'll be a challenge whatever I do. I've got a little fudge room in front of where the console will be if absolutely required. And I've got room on the sides for a futon or something. Hope to put a 2" machine in at some point for tracking to. So it'll get even more cramped.
Where the large opening is in the floor, is where the racks will have to go. The layout of the floor is now permanant.
I'm making a small design change to hopefully accommodate a 2" machine in the CR.
I need dimensions (Width, Depth & Height if possible) for the following tape machines:
MCI JH24
Studer A827
Sony APR24
Otari 90
Thanks,
Aaron
Greetings everyone. I never did get a reply on the previous question about dimensions for the 2" machines. If anyone has some numbers they can drop in, it would be great.
BTW, just posted some additional/updated pictures on the thread under construction...
