ok here i go again  so we're planning to move to a bigger house, and i happened to get the whole attic :D problem: i have to get my living room and the control room in there.. i dont need that much room, so i think its gonna work. budget is really tight, about 1000 euros, but i think i can use a lot stuff out of my old studio, that would be some corner traps and front/rear wall absorbers and a cloud. right now ove got absolutely no idea how to split the attic into two useful rooms, so i hope to get some help here.. the bigger room beside is supposed to become the live room/practice room, im not gonna do much in there because it seems to be acoustically fine as its an old barn.. just some thick curtains there. the control room should be sized for about three people or so.. my actual control room is about 5m to 3m, no need to get bigger than this. i hope i said everything important and im looking forward for some advices

Aloha Bob, Congrats on your new space/place! One issue that keeps popping up for above ground locations is "can your floor support the weight of the studio - extra walls, drywall, equipment, instruments, and people?" Be sure not to overload your joists. Adding just one layer of gypsum to your ceiling could transform an otherwise safe ceiling to one that can kill. This span calculator (courtesy the American Wood Council) is helpful in determining the maximum span of a joist under a variety of weight parameters. For more information about loads and span tables, see Understanding Loads and Using Span Tables by Paul Fisette, as it appears on the American Wood Council Web site. When in doubt, consult a professional structural engineer.

well i really think its tough enough  its a more or less old farmers house, and its strong built :D atm theres some kind of smoking-chamber in it, not really lightweight, so i think its gonna work!
noone?
maybe more elaborate than you need a wall, 2 sliders, and some trapping. but the main thing would be the walls on the CR provide enough angle to reduce some of the treatments later. you could use the other room with the sloped ceilings as another isolated room as well.

sorry if i was misleading, but its all about the room with the sloped ceilings.. there i have to fit in my living room and a control room. the bigger room (the one you took) will be the live/rehearsal room.
that will be a challenge since it looks like you have a staircase right by where you'd need some view into the live room... and offsetting the CR may be tricky unless you enter the living and live rooms through the control room. how small a control room can you live with?
ok, i thought of something like this, roughly.. its no problem to enter all rooms through the CR i think.. gotta use that space ;) the CR should be sized for about two people to work (guitar tracking and stuff)

push it baby
the main reason i thought of the initial design was you'd get a live room and a the stair area could also be used as an isolation area from the live room. the live room is pretty big... how would you see using the live room? all as one space? or having a few iso booth in it as well?
well the building thats supposed to become the live room is just an old barn like i mentioned.. i cant put that much in there, so no drywalls etc, im going to put in a few thick curtains (its called molton here..). also im not sure about the dimensions of this room, its probably not so big. so we are just talking about the smaller room.
am i doing something wrong or why dont i get some answer anymore? im just asking because it seems that its always the same ;)
sorry for the delay. pinewood and klondike derby weeks... after some more thinking, if you're restricted to having the CR and living space in the smaller area, you probably have the design about as close as you can get given the stairwell behind the CR desk. I'd angle the wall though and then add to the ceiling to preserve the symmetry.

looks good, but im afraid of waisting too much space with the stairwall.. i cant really see it in the picture, was your idea to put a wall from floor to ceiling in front of the stairwall or just from floor to desk-height? could you perhaps post the skp please?
put in a wall in front and on the side of the console and some trapping along the wall by the stairwell. not much else you can do, and everything less than 3-4' high isn't something you can stand under although you can tuck equipment in. it not optimal but if you cannot use the main room for a CR you're going to be constrained for size and sloped walls. putting a wall in front of the stairs will just make the CR even smaller... another option is to swap the living space with the CR so you have some more symmetry and room. you'll need to add in a big window/door to see through there... if it was me - I 'd set up my living space in the far corner of the big room :)
