Well, I am currently finishing up outside stuff to my new studio place (http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4559&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=) and I have just set the outside walls and roof, not really anything inside the studio yet. Facts that I need to live with: 1) I am only really going for a control room (well, composing room, too) and a vocal booth here. 2) I will have to have the vocal booth on the second floor, as a loft over the shed 3) I need to be able to reach this vocal booth from the control room Please, take a look at the isometrical view of my place (it is almost up to date except that I have finished all exterior walls and have NOT started with the loft above the small shed where a door is placed in this pic). More pics at my construction post. I am very interested in your thoughts about using the height (slope) of the room or not. EDIT: well, the actual dimensions of the room should be 370 cm x 510 cm (before inner leaf/framework is added). The ceiling is sloped from 250 cm to 480 cm as it is now. The entrance to the control room is from the short side (with the brick wall to the left) and the loft above the shed is about 250 x 370 cm now (but with heavily sloped ceiling). When I am on the subject: would you create a 2-leaf wall from the control room towards the shed (the part below the loft) or would you setup an inside-out wall, having 3 layers of gypsum at the shed's side and then use the other brick wall/regular wall/shed door as leaf 2?

DEFINITELY use the roof slope to your advantage - put your desk on the outside wall so the ceiling slopes up to your rear while seated at the mix position. This will give you a symmetrical mix position. Anything else will drive you nuts... Steve
Thanks Steve! And you would prefer that to an false ceiling straight over at about 260 cm height? I was thinking it might be better to give the room "regular" proportions and then set up the listening so that I face the shed from inside the studio and give the control room more length than width. I'm thinking it might be easier for me to build a room within the room that way, too...

Well, it's almost embarrising to say but nothing really has happened for almost 2 years, except that the wooden wall to the shed got replaced by a concrete in the exact shape of the one in the carport part. I have bought a lot of 2" x 4" studs (400 metres to be exact) in order to give it a good run. In my position, would you prefer setting a false ceiling at 260 cm in order to get regular dimensions or would you try using the slope. If using the slope, how would you adjust to it (traps, etc)?
