Im going for 2x6 top and bottom plates. I have not seen a diagram or pic of how these walls attach to existing standered walls or how to incorporate a door or window in them? All the pics I see just show the mid section of the wall, not the completed frame How are then ENDS of the walls constructed to prevent coupling? Im building this wall as a partition to make 2 rooms out of 1 room but it must somehow connect to the outer walls of that room right?
Why have you chosen staggered stud construction as opposed to other superior methods? I'm concerned that you may be running on incomplete information. I see that you have a project thread started. It's probably best to keep your questions contained to that thread so that we have some context is preserved. In other words, what may be right for you in your situation may be wrong for someone else in theirs (or vice versa).

That's the problem with staggered stud construction -- although the faces are decoupled from their opposing parallel faces, their tops, bottoms, and sides are not.
Why have you chosen staggered stud construction as opposed to other superior methods? [b]Because I am not superior. :) Honestly a lot of the other double wall stuff is beond my scope of carpentry and materials. I also dont have a huge isolation hurdle to jump. I was considering using a single studd frame beefed up a little. I decided to beef up a staggard stud wall since I have the material and a pretty good understanding of the construction. I'm concerned that you may be running on incomplete information. [b]Yes sir! Im very incomplete without a picture of how the ends of the walls are constructed but I think you answered that question for me. Thank you. I knew the top and bottom plates shared coupling but I didnt know the sides did :( ................that takes the swagger out of the stagger if you ask me. Yeah your right I will post in the Meth-lab build from now on. Heck I may even get some pics going. I just dont want people to get frustrated with me because I change my mind so often. So many elements are invold with my decisions because Im dealing with my whole band, none of which have read this forum. So Im already getting the comments like "How in the world could that one litte hole I put in the wall with my drumstick going to effect your precious little control room?" Or "Why cant you just put some duct tape on it" or my favorite so far "You mean we are going to just throw away all this green carpet on the walls?? I had to dig in dumpsters for a month to find that stuff!"

If I never changed my mind on my project, my thread would be something like 20 pages instead of 50+! Seriously... I think there's value in threads where one's mind is changed. This is an iterative learning process, for you and me and everyone else. :)

 That's priceless! Personally, I would throw away the green carpet on the walls right now. That's a serious health hazard and a serious :shock:FIRE:shock: hazard! :!: --Keith

I don't think building a double wall is any more difficult than building a staggered stud wall. The only additional materials you'd need would be the 2x4s for the top and bottom plates. You'd get better isolation (even if you're isolation needs are not that great). It also means the drumstick has to be thrown a lot harder to do as much damage! Also, since the amount of work and materials is not that much more than a staggered stud wall, if it were me, I'd go with the double wall only because of the isolation does need to be improved, I think you can get more with another layer of DW on each side of two walls than one. It's not that hard to do (I didn't have any skill at this either when I started and I would think it would be much harder to build the separate walls than one staggered. I mean, what if you get interupted half way through putting in the studs and put two on the same "side" next to each other? :-) len

I think Len meant "easier." :)
Well there is a little more to this build, the ceiling will prevent me from doing a whole lot to the place. Maybe I will post some pics on the methlab thread when I get ready to start. For right now im just thinking really far ahead. First things first. We play a show out of town tonight, hopefully we can sell enough T-shirts to buy this metal roof seal I found at Home Depot. Its kinda like a condom for metal buildings! I need to get a few leaks taken care of first..........I dont know why because it never rains in Texas anyway! Then Im going to do a few pop rivits on the failing gutters. NOW HEAR THIS!!!! The ENTIRE BAND has agreed that the 6500 pounds of beer bottles, Mcdonald's bags, and coke cans in/out and surounding the building (could be) attracting rodents! So next Saturday as I con my drummer to scale the roof and apply the sealent (always ask a drummer to do the dangerus stuff) we will be doing some demolition and (drum roll please) CLEAN UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I dont return within a few weeks, I have died from contracting a virus as of yet unidentified.
Please (1) survive your yet-to-be-identified virul infection, (2) maintain your great sense of humor, and (3) take pictures of the clean-up, before and after!!
Nice catch Kieth. I did mean "easier." I guess it was too early in the morning for me. len
