It's been a while since I've been here, mostly due to my own studio - which has been loaded with business for the last year. Thanks to everyone who had helped me in the past!
Well, a local musician and near-retired government business man is ready to build a new facility here on the Gulf Coast of Florida. He has the intent to make it the best recording facility in the area, offering musicians with a very very cool and creative atmosphere, along with some top-notch gear and a few seasoned engineers (yet to be hired).
He came to me after hearing of my studio and asked me about designing his. I took on the job, expecting it to be minimal. But it turned out, he had a very cool building, renovated from an old and stange-shaped house. I've already designed the recording system based on his budget. it's centered around a loaded PT LE system and digital console, complete with Apogee converters, API, Avalon, and Neve preamps, and a massive microphone selection. We've got some nice outboard gear heading in soon, too.
So here's the gig: The building is already isolated from the exterior noise, and the place is practically silenced. But I need to do some work on the interior acousitc design. For now, we'll leave the 25'x25' live room and iso booth alone. Let's look at the control room --
It's a smaller room, about 10x 12 with 8 ft popcorn ceilings. The floor is carpeted. The walls are your typical wallboard. The window has already been installed facing the live room from the front of the room. Now I'd like to take this room to the next level in terms of design. I want to approach it like a major studio's control room, but I'm not sure to what extent is necessary. Angled side walls, an angled ceiling? Slatted rear wall for diffusion? The room isn't very big, so I'm not sure what direction to take it. Is it worth installing wood floors? I'd love a review from one of you great designers -- I really don't know how I should approach this room.
I've got more questions regarding the other rooms, but they can wait for now. Any suggestions for this control room would be fantastic. Thank you all.
Alright guys, a new studio design to tackle!

Here's an updated schematic of the entire building. The control room is the room on the bottom right that is unmarked with the desk by the wall.
The graphic shows the existing axial room modes that we identified.
That is so freakin' cool! 8)
You need to resize the image though... Crop it and/or shrink it down to a width of 700 pixels or fewer as per the directive.
