Hopefully this new graphic will make things a bit easier than the earlier post! Unfortunately, we couldn't build from scratch, and this is the space we have to work with. This room is 12x12 with 8 ft ceilings. The flooing is all thick carpet, the walls are standard drywall, the ceiling is your typical pop-corn style wallboard. The room is essentially isolated already from the studio, so interior treatments are the name of the game. We're willing to build interior walls if need be. We'd like to have room for a couch in the back, along with a table on the side. As the system stands at this point, it's a topped-out LE system with a Digidesign Control-24 as the centerpiece. We're planning on putting two large apple screens to the immediate left of the console, one at 45 degrees and the other at 90 degrees to the immediate left. Plans are in the works to sofftit mount a pair of larger monitors, above the window, pointing down and inward to the mix position. Absorbtion, diffusion, whatever it takes to even out this typical "less than perfect" space.

Anyone wanna take a stab at it? The problem I've found resides in the current layout of the room that we have to work with. Following all of the key points about absorbtion and diffusion in key areas, this room is permitting that in so many ways. Here's a couple of the things I already see wrong: 1. The room size permits any major design changes (maybe I'm wrong here...) 2. The rear of the room prevents equal bass trapping in both corners, mainly due to the placement of the closet and being able to access it. 3. The studio owners asked if they could keep the window in the back of the room, so I can't do anything right behind the mix position (not good :() 4. The front of the room is too cramed to do any siginificant angles to break up the parallel walls. I think this is going to take a little brainstorming and some ballsy suggestions to alter the construction of the room. Go ahead if you can!
I'm interested in comments on this post also as my room is 13ft wide, 12ft long and almost 10ft high before any framing. I also have bathroom drainage pvc behind me to the right and my house water tree to the outside and inside in the behind and to the left to deal with. It is in the basement with 3 areas, left/right/back as concrete walls, the left wall has a crawl out window. Excuse the poor drawing..but I figured its easier to show than explain the key areas of concern. 13ft +------------------[DOOR]+ ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! + ! W ! get a copy of smart draw or sketchup and redraw your space and some proposed ideas and post them here.
