Hi! My name is Carsten, from Enschede/Holland. I'm planning to build a smalle recordingstudio in germany near the dutch border. I found a lot of useful information on this great (!) site already, but I still have a lot of questions and would like to hear different opinions. Do I need a brickwall between the recordingrooms and the controllroom? What do you think of the sizes of the room? (The small one will be the drum room) Does the floating floor between the three room have to be disconnected? Thanks a lot!! C.

I just found these shots on john sayers' site: http://johnlsayers.com/Studio/Mainpage/ ... ctions.htm the timber framework looks great and obviously works perfectly to seperate two rooms. So no bricks! I forgot to send the height of the room. It is 2,36 meters (the wall with two windows) to 2,71 meters (the wall with four windows) C.
Welcome to the forum! As you have found out, thre is a lot of usefull informtaion here, but you have to some research. Sorry, I can't add anything usfeull right now, but when I can, I will! Andre
Thanks a lot to those who keep this site up! I keep reading and learned a lot during the last days. (My sketches are changing constantly) Here is another drawing of my room with metric measures. If anybody has any ideas, suggestions etc. I would appreciate it a lot. There another six to eight weeks before I can start to work, so everything is still possible. I hope my girlfriend will not leave me, once I have started to work. the best to you all, Carsten

Hello Carsten - no the brick wall is not necesary. overkill!! cheers john
Hello Carsten, I’m from Holland too and I hope to build a similar rehearsal room /studio sometime soon. I also wanted to make a room within a room type of construction and was wondering if you, or someone else of course!, has any thoughts about things like condense or other moist-like substances building up between the two rooms. Normally here in Holland people tend to keep some holes in the outside wall to let the air flow in between. This way they want to prevent the in-between-space to go moist. Has anyone figured out a way to go around this, or is it simply not necessary in case of two airtight rooms and thus an airtight in-between-space? Help would be much appreciated! ’74 Loveplane
The only way around that problem I know is to build lined ducts around the holes so the sound has to travel through the insulated duct to get to the outside but the outside air can still get in. cheers john
Do you mean something like this, John? (Maybe in a smaller version?) When I looked at my room for the first time it was in december after two weeks of constant rain outside and the walls were perfectly dry, so I don't think I will have problems with moisture from outside. He, Loveplane! I started to look for second hand material this week. It is amazing what you can find for a small amount of money here. I just bought four thermopen windows (2,10x1,20m and 1,10x1,00m without frames of cause) for 40 Euros. Planed woodbeams 6x7cm for 60cent/m and so on. Just look for "gebruikt hout" in google and you'll find a lot of companies like this in you area: http://www.houthandelruiterkamp.nl regards, Carsten

yes cheers john
This is the kind of information I need!, even pictures to go along, thanks John, and Carsten. To Carsten: second hand is always a good first option, try to avoid the commercial building supermarkets, triple the price and not even a third of the quality. Are planning to install an air-conditioning system in your studio? Many Greetings, 74’Loveplane

I know I'll have to, yes. (Just think about the summer 2003, when I was happy with the slightest breeze in my room) I didn't figure out exactly what I have to do as I'm trying to find the simplest method that will work for all three rooms. Found this http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=644 cheers C.
