Hi everybody, I'm new into forum, and for start i have question
After 8 years I'm planning to move my studio into another place. Before i make some mistake, nice to hear some experienced guys opinion about making studio in Attic (Loft-Garret, forgive me for my poor English).
It, the empty space on the silent house, of course I'm planned to make proper isolation, but have no working experience in that kind of studio. Dimensions are 10x10m with top height of 4.5m centre ( high angled ceilings), which goes to zero on each side.
Is it any worth of this room. Can i make some nice acoustics inside? :?:
New studio

Greetings and welcome to the site. There's another studio somewhere here where they built their studio in the attic/loft (just a matter of finding the thread).
If you haven't had the chance to yet, use the search function and look for attic, loft, etc. You'll have about 91 posts, and there's a few multipage threads that have lots of info.
After browsing as much as you can read, post some drawings (either computer drawn or hand drawn) w/ measurements of what you've got. We'll be glad to help, it's just mostly a matter of free time for most of us to answer in a timely manner some days.
:D
Moby - could you please update your profile so we know where you are from.

Thanks guys, hope that my location will tell you that i really need some serious advices. Not to many expirienced around  I will search a little, but wanted to hear do i have to jump into "attic acoustics" :!:Moby - could you please update your profile so we know where you are from. cheers john
here's the usable area in your attic Moby

Thanks, looks resonable. Only, i'm confused with height. Do i have to go with flat ceiling? Can i use that 4.5m in some room design?
Something like this acceptable?
Yeah sure - I was showing the 2.1m door height - if you want doors they have to be with in that area. Sure use the ceiling area - will look great and also use the below 2.1 areas .......but that's where the doors have to go. ;)

Thanks. i must admit that my acoustics expirience is really poor, some beginner mistakes can happen... Soon i will post complete plan and will be nice to hear comments. Cheers :!:
Ok, i finally measured all dimensions inside attic, and here's my first plan
Problem with c.room door is obvious, but have problem with blockheads, or how you call that... They are marked as little brown spots.
I would really like to hear all comments about sizes of c. room, and where to place absorbers and diffusers. Also, i don't know how to plan ceiling. My plan was to make nice environment for mixing and mastering. Someday i have plans go with 5+1 also. R.room will be only for vocal, guitars and drums will wait a little... :?:
I'd swing the rooms around so you can look directly into the studio and have a larger vox booth like this

Thanks John! Only thing bothers me in this design is symetry inside c.room.
As i mentioned, i'm not so expirienxed with acoustics, so my question is, what are disadvantages of loosing center of non-flat ceiling as mine. I'm afraid of those heights i marked  :?:
I'm having trouble working out where the poles are etc.
Could you give us a plan showing all measurements - like where the poles are, where the stairs are etc.
cheers
john
I hope this looks better. :D And here's the pdf.

And the first design...

I'm sorry but those measurements don't make any sense. It makes your roof unsemmetrical (sp?) which I doubt it is. That 2.15 measurement must be out or something. Even your drawing doesn't line up the plan and the elevation.

john
No, it's not unsimmetrical, but unfotrunately i don't have original house plan, so i measured just inside dimensions of. BTW, house is builded 1930. :? I'm sure that i missed few cm around, but not more than few. That confusing part is left sided inside wall, without windows, and i measured from wall to pole. On the right side, situation is different. (there is no wall), so i was able to measure almost to zero. I'm really not an cad expert, and please forgive me about drawing... I measured again and i'm sure that roof is centered between poles (H-4.3m).It makes your roof unsemmetrical
Ah - that 's the problem - OK I can now work on it for you :)

here we go

John, thanks, i liked design a much, but I'm having trouble to figure out proportions of drawing. If i try to fit your "room" in mine "real dimensions", ad ended with something like this.... :?
My "real objects" are painted red and are in proportion of 1cm=1m.
Did i missed something?
And i tried to split into rooms, and i think i made mr. Frankenstein home recording studio  Please, can you try to use file "studio-clear" as background of design?
Thanks, Sergio
Sergio - my drawing is to scale based on the measurements you gave me. I don't understand how that can vary as much as it seems to be doing.
If you keep changing the dimensions on me it gets very frustrating.

john
John, i'm really sorry if i made some confusion  In my country people often say "he is crazy or he is building his house" :!: I will say, "he is crazy, or he is building his studio" Yes, i made few mistakes, but in my drawing (i measured again and all dimensions are cool) and i gave you few bad dimensions also. This is the correct picture, and if you find me and my confusion frustrating i will understand :( Anyway, thanks, and i will be happy if you can help me :D
Ok - then this drawing complies with the measurements and should work:)
cheers
john
Thanks John, this is possible to fit. :D Please, tell me what to do with non-flat ceiling, and what are "brown areas"? Traps? Also, i'm not sure what kind of doors are between mach.room and c. room and c.room and the room on the right side?
Cheers, Sergio :D
Hey Moby! :D Nice studio plans. Good to see you here!
