Hi everyone!!! hello from Ecuador... :D I'm a sound student and I have to do a studio design from zero 'til the end (walls construction, isolation, diffusors design.... etc) I now how to do it, but I'm not secure about the steps to begin all this: modal modes first? then RT... then?... many books and articles have diferent points of view about this so if you can helpme I'll really apreciate. Tankz a lot and congratulations for the great forum and source.
Hello Bitel, Let me make sure I understand what your assignment is. Design as close to an a perfect studio as posible - from scratch- with no design limitations or budget restraints. So the sky's the limit anything goes?
That's what I mean!!! Godskid 8) The first question I found is: What I have to do at first?? I mean if is neccesary to choose the proportions based on the different specifications.. and then the modal modes... and so on... It's ok in this way?? or is better to do something first.. My general idea is to design a kind of theater-control room.. :?: a big control room wit a big screen wit seats in front and.... I'll post a pik to be more clear ... meanwhile do anyone ever see Angel Mountain Studios?? and their THX certyfied proyection room... 'cuz that's my idead but no so ambicius :P tankz again...
First fdecide WHAT you want the studio for. Number of perfomers in the live room, close or ambient miking, number of isolation spaces/amount of isolation needed, number of people in the control room, 5.1 mixing, etc. TEHN start into the techy stuff. RT etc. for the control room are starightforward. Use EBU/CCITT/NARAS/AES recommendations. Next please! Andre
hey!!! good answer AVare :P i know how (or better were) to start the project now... the first step: ask yourself: what is going to be the main porpuse of the facility?? then: what are the minimal requeriments in space and equipment for this activity?? and: other spaces needed... livin' room... etc?? correct me if i'm wrong  any comments? i'm still drawing the plans (you know teachers :? ) you'll see soon  p.d. sorry for lang mistakes...
you have it correct and your language is fine :) Andre
Bitel - I was in a local Thai resturant tonight - I live in the wide open spaces of the country and I observed that in the space this wide open restaurant had for an entrance/foyer I'd seen whole thai restaurants in Sydney with 10 tables crambed in and takeaway out the door. Studios are a bit like the Thai restaurant ;) You need to decide how many musos are going to be seated for one sitting and how many are going to come and go. cheers John
good comment :P that is exactly the next question i think: studio for personal use, or comercial? and: how many people is expected? visitants, musos..etc ? hey people U're so good!!!! my homework is gonna be sobrenatural jeje 8) one thing... like the project is like sky-is-the-limit-type i don't have to care about the total area :?: rooms + livings + baths + etc... i think that only care how good is the treatement for any space... right?? well... to work again... tankz til next time
hi everyone what do you think about putting the loudspks up of the head level, the ITU-R BS. 775-1 only recommend the posibility of level-up the surround spks but noti' about the L-C-R. i'm clear? i see a lot of studios whith the near field spks arraged like that, is a big ifference? or just acustic-ergonomic needs? know were can find in-depth info bout this... :P these are my ultimate touchs to finish the sketch :o any comments?? tankz again...

What are you trying to achieve? You can do anything you want in your own studio. If you want to use the knowledge of the world's leading recording people, then use the recemmendations in ITU, EBU, AES, etc. Do you want the best that current knowledge provides, or do you wan tot do your own thing? You started on this thread not even knowing where to start. Now you are questioning industry standards with no rational thinking. Andre
