Hi Folks Hi There!! A bit about me My name is Bruce; I’m 36 years of age and live near Birmingham in the UK. I write using a combination of Pro tool LE/Mbox 2 and Ableton on a PC laptop. I want to produce Cinematic a style of music for TV/Film Games. and also: My band which is Acoustic guitar/ Vocals/ Cajon Drum Box/ piano and Bass Synth I like Synthesis so will most likely be adding some more outboard Synths... I currently Mix on headphones and some very small PC speakers in half my garage which acoustically could not be any worse as its L 2.5 x W2.5 x H2.0 and has no acoustic treatment. Although with cross referencing with headphones, my car and using pc speaker my mixes aren’t too shabby considering http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rgnxr8V4abQ I don’t tend to write at high volumes as I get worn out but every now and again I would like to hear what is going on down low so will play the song mid to loud levels. I also have a website with some examples of samples you can download for free… http://www.emaudio.co.uk/ I Have had some help from Stuart on the forums already and he has helped me visualise how I could build a studio in my garage. I think now I understand more and don't really have a good space in there, I'm going to build a shed studio near the house in the garden. The space I have to work with is 3.5 x 3.5 x 2.5 I know that a cube shape is not good for acoustic neither is a low ceiling. I might be able to stretch the hight so 2.5 is my actual ceiling hight. The dimension are the maximum area I can build within so inside the shell I will create the shape and ratio. I cant use brick as I need to take it with me if we move, the house is rented also... I have questions. Is it feasible to isolate the sound using thick marine ply on the outside and then another inner leaf? From out to in> Marine Ply, Insulation, plasterboard, Gap (1/2 inch) plasterboard, Insulation, Plasterboard. I have seen lots of designed on this forum, I'm interested to know what my ratios should be considering my restrictions and if any of the designs below would suit my area. http://johnlsayers.com/Stuff/Small_Studio.skp http://johnlsayers.com/Stuff/components.skp viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4206 All the best Bruce
Bruce, it would be better to keep all your posts about your studio in one thread, rather than spread around, as it keeps things centralized and you won't lose track of what you said where. At least post links from your other threads to this one, and vice-versa, so you can find your way around later, weeks from now, when you remember asking something but can't find the answer any more! :) It also helps others to keep track of where you are, and avoids double-postings or answering the same thing twice on different threads. - Stuart -
