Cheers to all who are following my badly written planning topic :D As Stuart said earlier, I now have the basic plan, and after starting to fill in some details, I found out few things that made me think. First of all, cr is going to have angled ceiling, that isn't symmetrical to listening position / room shape. Is that a problem? If it is, can it be fixed with treatment / clouds in later stage?

Also I did some raytracing, and didn't notice any problems with reflections to listening point.. Considering my raytracing skills, I wouldn't be surprised if it's all wrong :) I couldn't find dispersion charts for Adam A8X's, that i'm going to use as my monitors, so i had just to guess how it'll spread the sound..

If any of you gurus find out something strange in these, i would be so pleased to hear :) What comes to progress, I managed to move my dog's place away from the new building, and excavator will arrive in my property in few weeks (as soon as ground isn't frozen anymore :P ) so foundations will start to take shape. Cheers to all! - Juho

Yes, it is a problem. Room symmetry is critical, and that includes the ceiling too: sound waves travel in 3D, not just 2D, and the ceiling is a major part of that.
If it is, can it be fixed with treatment / clouds in later stage?
Not really. I would suggest framing up a "fake" ceiling on the higher side of the room, to mirror the angle on the lower side. Make the left side of the room a mirror-image of the right. Or maybe choose another layout for your rooms, where you get symmetry automatically in the CR, and don't need to do the extra ceiling?

Looks good to me!

That's one of my pet peeves about Adam: They make fantastic speakers, among the best in the world, but their documentation is terrible, among the WORST in the world, frankly. The only graphs I have every found for their speakers, have been done by reviewers in magazines. You almost wonder why they are so afraid to publish their own graphs, plots and diagrams: are they hiding something? Hmmmm..... - Stuart -
Time for an update! Just noticed that it's been almost a year since i started this topic, and finally I can say that things are starting to move forward. In past weeks I had to move my dogs quarters and one 5m x 5m woodshed out of the way of the new building. That been done I've been building for 2 days now! YAY! So, yesterday, morning of build day 1, the site looked like this:

After few hours of measuring footing and some digging, things started to happen:

And from the other side:

And after day #2, digging for foundations is ready!:

Next chapter will be building moulds for footing, pics will follow when i get them done. It feels incredible to get this build finally going, can't wait to get to build outer walls etc.. :)
Progress again! A lot has happened since last post. I've been on vacation for 2 weeks now, and I managed to get foundations done, all the driveway/yard sh*t done, concrete have been poured into floor (YAY!) and today I almost finished framework for outer shell. And then the best part: some pics :yahoo:

Some molding..

And some more

Concrete for foundations arrived!

..and done!

Some little celebration when i got the bricks in place.. :)

And of course summer is the time for festivals in Finland, did some gigs too ;)

Installation of styrofoam.

Progress progress. Got the new switchboard in place too.

Filling up..

And that's how the driveway looks like now.

Just before getting the last steels in place..

It seems that forum won't let me post more than 12 images at the time, so here it continues :)

Concrete arrives, time for some serious sweating :)
Image not preserved: IMG_0309.jpg
Floor done and covered. Thank god it didn't rain at all that day, so it got enough time to harden a bit..
Image not preserved: IMG_0318.jpg
..but the next morning it looked like this :D guess there was a 'local' shower in the night..

And here are the results after this day. lots have been done, but so much to do :D Lots and lots of sweat and lots of cigarettes (okay, few beers also)have been consumed to get to this point, and the summer has also been warm, almost hot :) At least for me.. Next step is to get the framework done and roof in place, then it starts to look good.. - Juho
Whoa! It's been hell of a long time since my last post..so I guess it's time to reveal what's going on with the build.. Guess that no one is surprised about that I've been again really busy with my day job, but actually I've got some building done since august. Ok, here we go:

Look from control room to live room, before roofing was installed.

Another one from the same spot.

There was few months between previous and this photo; roofing has been installed ( I actually fell down from the top of the roof 2 times during installation, nothing went broke though :) ), installed 9 mm thick gypsum to work as 'windscreen' (what's the proper english term for that?), 7 windows and when waiting for siding panels to arrive, I installed also vapor barriers into inner roof. The guy who plane (is that even a word?) panels for me uses a 50 kW diesel generator for the plane, and it suddenly suffered for serious voltage drop. Being a made-in-china product I actually spent almost 2 weeks repairing that generator to get it work again, so i could get my siding before the real winter arrives. Fortunately the winter is late. Really late, I can't remember last time that it was +8 degrees centigrade in january, it's usually -20 to -30 degrees this time a year. And whole lotta snow too :D
Image not preserved: IMG_0566.jpg
But yesterday i finally got them! Worked for few hours with my spouse and got the first wall done up to the windows..
Image not preserved: IMG_0571.jpg
..and today same thing continued, now the second wall is done up to the windows. At the same time I'm installing some insulation inside, so i could get some heat up before it starts to get seriously chilly :) I'll try to keep posting pics and text as soon i get some sh*t done.. I'm really looking forward to get to the actual room building finally, to finally see how things start to take shape inside. I've been doing some research with hvac, i'll post plans when I get them ready. Also the electrical / cabling plan is ready (surprisingly it was the easiest part, just because the fact that i do that for living :D ) Oh, Happy New Year to all, even i'm a bit late with that :)
Time for a short update, outer walls almost finished..been quite chilly though :D Yesterday it was -26 degrees centigrade and for some reason my nailgun got frozen :)

Few pics from this afternoon, still quite chilly..but at least i don't have sweat while building :D I also started to install first round of insulation to outer walls, pics will follow..
Yesterday it was -26 degrees centigrade and for some reason my nailgun got frozen
:!:  Ouch! Now THAT is cold! - Stuart -
Okay, seems like I'm really too lazy updating :D Well, the build is still on, I haven't forgotten you guys! :) So far I've managed the get the outside almost done, only paint is missing. Right when I got the outside into decent condition, I started working on inner walls, double walls and walls between CR and live room.

And of course, in the meantime, I've had some time to start building some Gssl clone compressor, had first test about 2 weeks after starting, and it sounds AWESOME :)
Image not preserved: studioblog07.jpg
And then...after few weeks (actually 5 weeks of being really busy with day job) I finally managed to get the gypsum and insulation to second walls ordered. The pile of gypsum was really quite frightening :D
Image not preserved: studioblog08.jpg
After few days of hard work, the place started to get some shape..
Image not preserved: studioblog11.jpg
A view from back of LR towards the CR wall:
Image not preserved: studioblog13.jpg
I also finally found a decent place for that vocal booth, using the space in one corner, that wasn't really going to be never used properly:
Image not preserved: studioblog16.jpg
Here's the hallway leading to control room, access to live room is at right hand. There's also toilet in the right hand, where the small gap in wall is showing. Guess I have to cut the gypsum properly at some point :D
Image not preserved: studioblog18.jpg
Today I managed to get the first layer of gypsum done almost all over the place. Still another round waiting to go. And the ceiling of course. Guess I need some helping hands in that..from the beginning I've been mostly doing all the labour myself, with my lovely wife helping me whenever she were able to. At the moment (actually for the last 3 months) I've been looking for decent analog console to buy, have had few good offers from consoles that are in the US, but every time costs of freight to LA (there's a company that ships goods from LA to Finland with really, really low rate) and crating has become a problem. If anyone has some good tips / help, I'm more than willing to hear them... ;) ...or if anyone of you are willing to sell some large format midrange console, let me know :) Anyway, today is the midsummers celebration here in Finland, the night that sun won't set at all..so I'm going to fire up my sauna and get some whiskey, beer and some blues to get this thing going on! Cheers! - Juho
