Please note - I started 4 separate threads at the outset of this adventure.
This one - viewtopic.php?f=2&t=17294
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=17296 - Triple leaf
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=17302 - Should I use (denser) 13ml soundchek or 16mm fyrcheck?
And what became my main thread for ongoing discussion - viewtopic.php?f=2&t=17298 Does this count as a 'leaf'
I've built a music room downstairs with double layer heavy 13mm plasterboard/gyprock - and it's ok...but only ok.
But it's not a finished room - so I have the option to do more down there...which is imperative cos sound transmission - especially through the ceilling is much more than I want.
So, I'm going to build a room within the room (fortunately the ceilling is high)...the question is ....as I look at the various options in terms of difficulty for my DIYing...I'd love some thoughts as to whether each option is worth the extra effort! (NB I AM going to use green glue and two layers of soundcheck (the Aussie sound reducing product from gyprock plasterboard) on the new room within the room.
For example:
1) Do you think this is the way to go? Reading the other posts I guess it really is!
2) Assuming you think yes - then is there much to be gained by having the inner room (new framework) completely separate from the current - or can I just nail the new frame to the plasterboard/existing framing...(so that I don't have to build a freestanding frame!) I can 'block' this out so there is more of a gap than just that created by the 4x2 timbers....the question is really about whether to have the timbers (that will take the new plasterboard) connecting to the existing plasterboard walls.
3)Assuming that there IS going to be a MUCH better result if I make the inner room completely separate from the outer (as far as possible) - then should I leave AIR in between the inner and outer room - or should I fill it with a sound insulation batts? Some stuff I have read suggests dead air rather than batts - as the batts effectively create a 'connection' between the rooms.
Thanks so much.
Please help with options for room within room - thank you!

You should read...more...and often...and then, after reading more and often...fill in your geographical location in your profile...and read the stickies...more...and often...
Sorry - I thought my location was completed as part of the sign up!!
I have added more details in my post re triple leaf as this seems to be the issue with a room in a room!
Please keep your posts in one thread...you are asking about a triple leaf...but you have made,,well, triple posts. :)
Keep it all together so we do not have to jump all around trying to keep up with your idea...
