You are on the right path...Trust what Glenn has given you to work with. I have known of him and his work for 5 or 6 years...he would not be a mod here if john Sayers did not believe in him. Now why I am, who really knows :)
the approach i am taking is a bastardized version of what glenn drew for me.. i am starting by building john's corner wall units.. the angles are going to be different than glenns drawing, but being new to the carpentry world i needed to start somewhere! i'm sure to the educated there will be some problems with my approach, but i am hoping its a vast improvement to what it was... hopefully i'll post back in a few days with pics.. btw, i've read some of your others posts and visited your website..its no wonder why you're a mod..:)

Yep! What the man said! :) - Stuart -
here's what i've accomplished so far..

i will be putting some more traps throughout the room probably starting with the wall on the rear of the CR.. here are a few questions i have though.. check out the way the CR opens into a little hallway..

bathroom on one side, closet on the other, and then utility room straight back.. can i use the utility room as some sort of bass trap? also you'll see a heating vent on the top of the rear wall. i was planning on just making some panel traps that work around it.. any issues with that? my apologies for not having a better sketchup file from the get go (showing block windows and utility room, etc.).. glenn probably would have helped me with this from the start:) any pro advice on what the next most important thing to tackle would be? any help is appreciated as always! btw, the helmholtz absorbers where made per john's DIY wall unit diagram http://www.johnlsayers.com/HR/index1.htm i'd be happy to share details on how i approached it if anyone is interested..but i am not positive that i did everything right.. i read info regarding not having the cloth touch the slats at all (actually it was you that said it in another thread soundman2020) but per johns diagram i don't see how that is possible.. in my approach, the cloth is clear of the slats, except they touch just a bit on the side where the slats attach..
so... i now have 2'x 4' 703 panels on the sides of my desk treating the early reflections.. next step is the cloud.. does anyone have any insight on what to do with the rear of the control room? i read in one of ethan's articles that if the rear wall is more than 10 ft away you don't have to worry about it so much.. would that be true of my room? the rear wall is about 13 ft from my speakers.. also note the way it opens up into the utility room as i mentioned in my last post with pic.. if i don't hear back anything this time around, i'll assume my thread is dead:)
I would still treat the rear wall. You'll still be getting reflections of it, and the -15 dB / 15 ms "rule" is debatable. Not everyone hears the same... - Stuart -
thank you for the feedback stuart...very much appreciated! after i get the cloud in i will treat the rear wall..
there is a recessed light, as you'll see in the pic, right where the cloud is going.. i have looked into designs with lighting wired in, buts they are a little more in depth than i want to go.. what about putting in two separate panels and leaving the light alone? if thats not ideal treatment (guessing its not) i will put in the time to build one solid cloud and put in lights.. but money is tight right now and i wouldn't be able to do it for awhile.. any thoughts? many thanks!
