yes, that's the approach although you could use a number of similar products like "whisper clips" etc http://www.kineticsnoise.com/arch/ceilings.aspx - http://www.kineticsnoise.com/arch/icw/r ... 040566.pdf the plastic over the insulation (and behind the cloth) will help preserve some HF so you don't end up with a completely dead space (although the slat boxes and partial cloud coverage will help there). if you download the SU file you will find the absorbers and slat boxes as properly scaled components. for the overhead clouds though you might have to drop back to 2" thick spaced 2" off to preserve some ceiling height.
what are good ways to go about making or buying movable acoustics. basically i want to deaden the sound for when the artist rap but i want to loosen up on some of that dead air when a singer comes in the booth
If your using wall hung absorbers, make one side soft and one side hard and make them so they can hang either way. Or if the absorption is built in, then some panels to hang to achieve the same effect.
Hi, I am back with a new design, small bedroom. It's actually my bedroom and I have a connected patio. I cleaned it out left bed and 3 little shelfs. the wall between the patio door and parallel door is where my setup will be.. 13'Lx11'Wx7'4"H with a fan in the cieling. HOW CAN I FIGURE OUT THE FREQUENCIES TO FOCUS ON IN TREATMENT!!! what type of absorbtion should i have behind my monitors, i was thinking 4" to control a liitle of the bass boost? what should i do about back wall? What should i do about the door treatment and windows? How can i treat my ceiling with the fan there?

"How can i treat my ceiling with the fan there?" You take the fan down
Guess that's the move,. Have an idea about the windows?
You didn't mention windows...did you?
yes, how do i treat my room accordingly?
what should i do about the windows?
so what are you willing to do here? (meaning your space) do you want a nice sounding bedroom, or do you want a proper mix room? what are your isolation requirements? i mix new age chimes at 65db isn't going to be a problem, versus i mix deth metal at 110db next to the local infirmary. if you want a proper mix room - lose the bedroom, take down the fan, seal off the window and doors, and do a lot of broadband treatment. for starters - please draw out a floor plan of your room - accurate to 1/4" (5mm) showing all the features - doors, windows, pipes, radiators, electrical outlets, closets, any odd protrusions. include details on the construction - floor, walls, ceiling. how thick are the windows? have you done any isolation testing? flanking testing? tapping with metal and rubber hammers will help determine how much flanking you have between your room and whatever is next door, above or below. use a loud PA or studio monitor to do some sweeps and bass/drum material and a sound level meter or your laptop with appropriate software to measure your isolation. how much noise do you have coming in?

Windows and doors are always causes for leaks and reduction in your isolation and need a different approach, materials and some attention to detail to achieve a proper seal. Gaskets and solid core doors with properly insulated door jambs and window plugs with gaskets or hard built to the structure with mass equal to or greater than the existing wall assembly. But be forwarned that installing additional framing in this room that is most likely an existing framed wall can defeat your intent. Your goal is to be on the ground level of whatever structure you are in so to have access to an earth damped concrete slab that can be of service....rather than a wooden elevated assembly that brings much trouble with it.

I want a nice sounding bedroom. How would you suggest making the window plugs?
for the window plug - rubber for the seals. plywood backed with drywall. fill gap with cloth covered insulation.
What about Duvet Covers(500 thread count) On Both Sides Of The Windows? The door next to the windows lead to a patio thats connected to the room.
you could start there but if you need isolation and more absorption then the tactic mentioned will get you closer.
Do you know of any places online that over good prices on duvets
Maybe just get flame retardant treated fabric and make them?
So just wrap some insulation in the fabric and were good? I could prob make it work
What type of insulation do you recommend and where are good places to get it?
if there is an SPI near you or check the site building product forum to see if anyone listed a place to get rigid insulation. typically you want 4" 703 insulation 2'x'4 sheets and you want flame retardant cloth to cover them - you can buy it that way or buy some cloth (muslin, jute, burlap, etc) and treat it (look up flame retardant treatment online and you'll find products and formulas for it). there are a number of how-to build absorbers stickies on the site.
Can I use the 4" 703 for my overhead cloud and the window cover? (Drape type covering even though it will prob have to stay stationary over the span of the windows)
Should I make my cloud 4'x4'
maybe 2 2'x4' clouds or better 2 of them - 6'w x 3'l x 4"d - depends on what space you have.
