Hi guys n girls, great site here, i've trolled through the numerous posts here and have found that these ones viewtopic.php?f=1&t=14339 , viewtopic.php?f=1&t=14288 & viewtopic.php?f=1&t=13598 plus this one which was the closest that came to mys situation viewtopic.php?f=1&t=14072 to be quite informative.
I'm in the process of re-designing my control room and live room while waiting <read saving> for a new purposes built shed in my back yard. This is only a temporary room solution. < both rooms >
I have a lot of acoustic absorption material which was given to me by a family friend who is an architect/builder, the material is what is called "wood/wool/cement", its a layered board measuring approx 1200mmx600mmx60mm. I'm wondering exactly what the absorption co-efficient of this material is and which way would be the best way to use it to its maximum efficiency. I also have bulk rockwool from jobs i have done in the past <i am a roof tiler>.
To give a brief rundown of the "live" room that i'm treating it is:
L:4.2m x W:2.2m x H:2.6m. this is the total Floor Space!<I should point out that i have already made a lowered ceiling and mounted these panels flush to the rafter/trimmer>.
The floor is ceramic tile over concrete <which is suspended> with no carpet/covering<can be arranged if necessary, i have a few underlay rolls and eastern style throw rugs handy>. The walls are standard timber studs with a combination of masonite/compressed timber on three sides and one wall with fibro. As i mentioned the ceiling is already covered with the wood/wool/cement boards and there is a gap of approximately 150mm between the panels and the roof covering, which is cliplock polycarb. Unfortunately for me there are three walls which have large 8mm plate glass <the room used to be a sunroom>, these windows are quite solid and cannot be removed without creating quite a cost and mess for myself. As i mentioned this is a temp solution for perhaps three months max. But i do have quite a lot of rockwool <15 bags> plus around 12-15 panels of the wood/wool/cement boards. The windows on the longest wall are full length and are half the height of the wall itself, the window lintel is part of the top plate.
I'm not expecting much from this room but can say that external noise is virtually nil except when the biker up the roads blats past on his harley. Most of the times its just birds and wind although on occasion when the highway is in full form and the wind is blowing the right way i get the occasional snatches of truck air brakes etc. Its rare and with the windows closed and the drapes drawn it is totally minimal. I figure with the extra sound re-enforcement it should'nt be a problem.
My main aim is to create a reasonably "dead" space but am trying to leave some life in it. It will be mainly used to do acoustic guitar and bass tracking plus a little horns and harmonica on occasion. Am i expecting to much from this room to do so? Usually i track in my "control/mix room" but get a lot of weird low end problems <probably due to standing wave effects> on occasion.
As for my control room well i have just cleaned it out to make way for a new console, i also have a temporary diffuser <a full wall 6 shelf bookshelf plus books> to make use of.
With this room the specs are:
L:4m x W:2.8m x H:3m running with the pitch of the roof down to 2.8m. This room also has a pre-cut space for a window and doorway adjacent to the live room which is - (at the top of the door space) H:2.1 x W:800mm with the window space being H:650mm x W:1600mm. This may cause issues with monitoring but as i mentioned it is only temporary and i have ample material to block this space if needed. The floor is carpeted over polished timber<cedar> with the standard underlay, the walls are fibro with fibreglass batts in the space between interior and exterior walls. The ceiling is also fibro with a 100mm space between the roof and ceiling also with batts. (the house was built in the early 50's). As mentioned i have more than enough material to treat. I'm also which wall would be preferable for the diffuser to be located.
Any comments/advice are appreciated especially regarding the freq absorption of the acoustic panels.
Thanks again for providing this great forum John and of course the other mods and pro's who post here, i was referred here via the Turtle Rock Mastering forum which is also a great place to get info.

I posted an image of the panels via the link below if there is any confusion on my description of the panels.
