Quite alot of guitars, but hat´s exactly what I hear when I think of Irish music ! The other link didnt work by the way... :( Well, it´s quiet at the studio construction front for a while, stuck at work for a few days.. But if all goes well I´should be able to start with the monitoring measurements the day after tomorrow. After that its off to buy more timber and mineralwool and fabrics. The info at Ethan Winers site was a real find.. Im going to use it as The Guide for this project. http://www.ethanwiner.com/acoustics.html I will keep updating this thread, or maybe start another one for a construction diary of sorts.. See ya!
bumer, it was for here comes the sun!!
Yesterday I made some measurements of the place.. I used a Macbook with Cubase 5 and a Oktava mkII 012 omnidirctional mic to a Focusrite pre. All 4 corners had basstraps but other than that the room was bare. I had the mic at the mixing position of 185cm from the front wall. I had Cubase set up with the test tone generator doing a slow sweep from 20 - 2000 Hz. That was recorded to a track in Cubase and then run thru the Cubase frequency analyzer.. The dips and peaks that I heard during the measurements were in line with the resulting graphs so I feel I can trust these results. I did the same test many times with varying speaker to wall distances and varying the mic position, and the results were very much the same every time. There was maybe little variation in attac and decay times of the some of the peaks, but they we´re spot on at the same exact frequencies every time. The room really has a wild frequency responce at the moment.. I did some by ear measurements first and some frequencies seemed to come from the back of the room (220Hz) instead of the speakers, some seemed to come from everywhere, and above the 300Hz mark some frequencies were coming from the left and some from the right.. But the higher freqs are not the problem, they can be dealt with easily. Those peaks in the lower register should be rid of first. I´ll be making basstraps/broadband panels on the front and rear walls and need some sound advice so that I don´t under/over do it.. Any I deas for the absorber type and dimesions? The peaks at 60, 165 and 330 are the ones I guess need to be tamed the most. What kind of design might work best? At Ethan Winers site he says: "In practice, you don't necessarily have to measure wavelengths and calculate air gaps, and the first few inches of space yield the most benefit. Most people are not willing to give up two or more feet all around the room anyway, so just make the gap as large as you can justify. If you can afford to fill the gap entirely with material, all the better." Im guess I could make 20cm deep absorbers to the back and front wall, use rigid fiberglass for the front and fill the gap with rockwool. You think this would make a difference?
